Pentecost/Shavuot/Feast of Weeks: Two Loaves of Bread

Leviticus 23:15-20 You shall count seven full weeks from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering. You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath. Then you shall present a grain offering of new grain to the LORD. You shall bring from your dwelling places two loaves of bread to be waved, made of two tenths of an ephah. They shall be of fine flour, and they shall be baked with leaven, as firstfruits to the LORD. And you shall present with the bread seven lambs a year old without blemish, and one bull from the herd and two rams. They shall be a burnt offering to the LORD, with their grain offering and their drink offerings, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the LORD. And you shall offer one male goat for a sin offering, and two male lambs a year old as a sacrifice of peace offerings. And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits as a wave offering before the LORD, with the two lambs. They shall be holy to the LORD for the priest.

In the Old Testament and in the Hebrew, this holiday is referred to as Shavuot. The word means: weeks.

Shavuot is one of the three holidays where Jewish men are required to come to Jerusalem (Exodus 23:14-17). The men were to make their presentation and sacrifice before God at the Temple. This holiday is one of seven holidays appointed by God.

Shavuot and Pentecost are synonymous. Shavuot is often associated with God giving the Torah, the birth of Judaism. Pentecost is often associated with God giving the Holy Spirit, the birth of the church.

On a Gregorian calendar in the year of 2018, the holiday of Shavuot/Feast of Weeks/Pentecost begins at sunset on Saturday, May 19. The God Appointed holiday ends at sunset Monday, May 21.

Two loaves of bread are made from the new wheat harvest. The loaves are made with leaven. The Biblical symbol for sin is leaven. The two loaves of bread at Shavuot are the only sacraments made with leaven.

Some believe that one loaf represents the Jewish people and the other loaf represents the Gentiles. The loaves represent the church which is comprised of Jews and Gentiles. Sinful people, Jews and Gentiles, are formed with the first fruits of the wheat harvest. (And yes, the church was and is still sinful despite being saved by the grace of God.) The loaves are brought and waived before the Lord.

Ephesians 2:11-22 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands, remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that He might create in Himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. And He came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. For through Him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In Him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.

Together, sinful Jews and sinful Gentiles sealed with the God the Spirit worshiping God the Father through the sinless God the Son.

Which begs the question…

How long before the two loaves of bread, the church, are waived by our High Priest before the Lord in Heaven?

  1. I have learned that the Hebrew people practiced the Mosaic Law since Moses’ time all the way up to the Babylonia Captivity. We must remember that the Hebrew people were divided when the nation became 2 nations: House of Israel = 10 tribes and House of Judah = 2 tribes around 931 BCE. Since then, the ten tribes were called “Israelites” and the 2 tribes were called “Jews”. Two different names and identities. Most Christians have not been taught this which brings so much confusion in understanding Old Testament and New Testament prophecy.

So when you say that Judaism began with Moses’ time is not true. When the Jews returned back into the land after the Babylonian Captivity around 531 BCE, they brought with them their Babylonian traditions and intertwined them together (oral traditions of Talmud origins) that became “Judaism” at that point. The religion of the Jewish people became Judaism when they returned from Babylon.

Second point, I want to share is that I have learned that the church did not begin at Pentecost. Rather, the New Covenant began at Pentecost but not the “church”. Read Acts 7:38. The “church” = ekklesia was always God’s people who believed Him that imputed to them righteousness just like in the beginning of Abraham’s faith.

Thus, the church during Pentecost (30-33 AD) was the extension of the church that already existed but followed the New Covenant. So Christians have never “replaced” the church (Israel/Jews); but rather they are the people that have continued the understanding of God’s righteousness imputed by faith/trust in Him that leads to obedient living.

  2. Zephaniah Says:

Absolutely perceiving this also. First fruit barley, the Patriarchs already gone. [First part of the first resurrection].

First fruit wheat consist of both Jew and Gentiles waiting to be waved at the second half of the first resurrection. Near Yeshua’s second coming.

Feast of ingathering represents those believers…mostly Jews, who will accept Yeshua at His second arrival after the first resurrections. They will not have an incorruptible body initially. They will survive the wrath and will be gathered into the Promised Land in their natural bodies.

God required that His children went to Jerusalem for these feast. Likely pointing to how He is harvesting His children into the Spiritual or heavenly Jerusalem for the firstfruits and the renewed Jerusalem in the Kingdom of heaven to come.

“And I will pour on the HOUSE OF DAVID and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they PIERCED. Yes, they will MOURN for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.
    Zechariah 12:10 NKJV

He will set up a banner for the nations, And will assemble the outcasts of Israel, And GATHER TOGETHER the dispersed of Judah From the four corners of the earth.
    Isaiah 11:12 NKJV

If the celebration of the first Passover likely points to Yeshua’s first time on earth including His resurrection. Then following His resurrection are the first fruit Barley, the Patriarchs’ resurrection.= wave offering of the Feast of firstfruits Barley.

God allowed a second Passover but no second Feast of firstfruits Barley/Unleavened Bread. The second Passover could represents Yeshua’s second coming at which time the first fruit barley the Patriarchs are already resurrected. Hence no second Feast of firstfruits Barley as the people who were being represented by this wave offering are already gone.

    Blessings
