Love in Secret…Featuring Matt Weinreich
Matthew 6:1-4 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret: and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.”
A true gift cannot be given without receiving. A true gift cannot be received without giving. When I give generously, my spirit is raised knowing I have shown love to another. When I receive, my spirit is raised knowing another loved me enough to give generously to me.
A taker cannot truly give, nor receive. A taker takes out of fear of being taken from. The spirit of taking wants to convert givers into takers.
This is why I believe Jesus told us to give in secret. To give is to love. Love the other as other. Love and release. Love spontaneously in secret. Leaving the other with the expectation of praise, or repayment turns that love to vanity. Don’t allow your love to be hijacked.
