January 2, 2020: General Qassim Soleimani has been killed in a U.S. airstrike at Baghdad Airport. He was one of the most powerful military persons in Iran. General Soleimani was the leader of the Qud’s Force. Iran has confirmed the Soleimani has been “martyred”.

In addition, other deaths were reported in the strike. These include the Deputy Chief of Hezbollah and two of Iran’s militia leaders.

The statement below is a release from the Pentagon.

This is the latest in a series of escalations between Iran and the United States.

January 1, 2020: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei told U.S. President Trump, “You can’t do a damn thing.”

Khamenei’s quote was in response to President Trump’s tweets noted below.

December 31, 2019: Iranian backed Shia stormed the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq. Marines were dispatched to the Embassy and other military support is on the way. Numbers are estimated to upwards of 4,000 additional military personnel.

December 29, 2019: The United States responds by bombing Iranian targets which results in the death of 25 Iranian militia.

December 27, 2019: An American contractor was killed by an Iranian rocket attack.

Jeremiah 49:34-39 That which came as the word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying: “Thus says the LORD of hosts, ‘Behold, I am going to break the bow of Elam, the finest of their might. ‘I will bring upon Elam the four winds from the four ends of heaven, and will scatter them to all these winds; and there will be no nation to which the outcasts of Elam will not go. ‘So I will shatter Elam before their enemies and before those who seek their lives; and I will bring calamity upon them, even My fierce anger,’ declares the LORD, ‘And I will send out the sword after them until I have consumed them. ‘Then I will set My throne in Elam and destroy out of it king and princes,’ declares the LORD. ‘But it will come about in the last days that I will restore the fortunes of Elam,’” declares the LORD.
