First of all, as many Christians are acutely aware, animal sacrifices for sin are no longer required. However, these things are still prophesied. And, the antichrist needs a Temple to defile.

People are having an internal issue. They have been confronted with the truth of Scripture and they don’t like it. So, they seek something that aligns with their personal beliefs. The individual has an itch. They seek someone who will tickle the itch. (Compliments and credit to my wife.)
