Trend Update: Peace, Peace, Peace! June 2016
Daniel 9:27 And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.
This is the definitive statement indicating the start of the Tribulation. The verse in Daniel is what Jesus quotes in His Olivet Discourse. Matthew 24:15 So when you see the abomination of desolation – spoken about by Daniel the prophet – standing in the holy place (let the reader understand).
The “he” is the antichrist. As of June 2016, “he” is not on the scene and “he” has not made peace. Humanity is still fighting wars.
And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week…The Hebrew word for “he will make firm” is gabar. The grammar states the antichrist is the cause and he has the strength to make it happen.
The Hebrew word for “covenant” is bariyth. It means: covenant, alliance, pledge between men; treaty, league (man to man).
The length of the treaty is “one week” or echad shabuwa` in the Hebrew. It means: period of seven (days or years), heptad, week.
Definitions are provided by Strong’s Concordance.
As of June 2016, there is a push for peace in the Middle East. There appears to be multiple peace plans on the table.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is urging the Knesset to join the push for peace. He is looking at elements of the Arab Peace Initiative. A key element of the plan provides for Israel’s full diplomatic ties with 57 Arab and Muslim states after a peace accord with the Palestinians. The plan was developed by Saudi Arabia and approved by the Arab League 14 years ago.
Egypt is looking to broker peace between the Arabs, Palestinians, and Israel.
Even former Israeli soldiers have a plan for peace with the Palestinians and Arabs.
On June 3, 2016, France is hosting a peace conference. It includes the Middle East Quartet: the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations – the Arab League, the U.N. Security Council and about 20 countries. Seems like a rather large “quartet”.
Israel and the Palestinians have not been invited to French peace conference.
