Water Rising Behind the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, July 2020

Isaiah 19:5-7 And the waters of the sea will be dried up, and the river will be dry and parched, and its canals will become foul, and the branches of Egypt’s Nile will diminish and dry up, reeds and rushes will rot away. There will be bare places by the Nile, on the brink of the Nile, and all that is sown by the Nile will be parched, will be driven away, and will be no more.

Three prophets (Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Zechariah) in the Bible make the claim the Nile River is going to run dry at some point in the future.

July 2020: Water is beginning to rise behind the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). The source of water for the GERD is the Blue Nile.

There are conflicting reports from the region if Ethiopia has begun filling the reservoir behind the dam.

Currently, water rights talks between Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt have broken down. To date, no agreement has been reached. Ethiopia has openly discussed the idea of beginning to fill the dam without reaching an agreement.

The following tweet is from Seleshi Bekele, Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

The following satellite photos were taken between June 27th and July 12, 2020 by Maxar Satellite Technology.

The government of Sudan reports water levels in the Blue Nile had dropped by 90 million cubic meters per day.

“The Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources reiterates its firm rejection of any unilateral action taken by any party, especially following the continued efforts of the African Union and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to reach a consensus among the three countries on this outstanding issue, which could be resolved through strong political will,” Sudan Government statement.

Egypt is obviously not happy about the GERD. Egypt depends completely on the Nile River for its water.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi remains in close contact with his Defense Council regarding the matter. Egypt is also moving military equipment to the Libyan border.

There are multiple places in the Bible that says the Nile River will dry. Isaiah is not the only place. See what Zechariah and Ezekiel have to say.

Zechariah’s comments are interesting. The prophet states God will strike the waves in the sea to bring this about.

Zechariah 10:11b …And He will strike the waves in the sea, so that all the depths of the Nile will dry up…

Ezekiel 30:12 And I will dry up the Nile and will sell the land into the hand of evildoers; I will bring desolation upon the land and everything in it, by the hand of foreigners; I am the LORD; I have spoken.

Predestined: A Dry Nile River

Isaiah 19:5-7 And the waters of the sea will be dried up, and the river will be dry and parched, and its canals will become foul, and the branches of Egypt’s Nile will diminish and dry up, reeds and rushes will rot away. There will be bare places by the Nile, on the brink of the Nile, and all that is sown by the Nile will be parched, will be driven away, and will be no more.

This prophecy was written approximately 2,800 years ago. There is not any record where the Nile River has dried up since this was written. The prophecy is quite a statement. The Nile River is predestined to go dry.

The notion of a dry Nile is also noted in…

Zechariah 10:11b …And He will strike the waves in the sea, so that all the depths of the Nile will dry up…

Ezekiel 30:12 And I will dry up the Nile and will sell the land into the hand of evildoers; I will bring desolation upon the land and everything in it, by the hand of foreigners; I am the LORD; I have spoken.

God states this is His will.

God does not say what causes the Nile River to go dry.

How is this going to happen? There is the obvious answer of drought. Outside of the Nile River, Egypt is not a hospitable place. It is desert and nothing grows there. It would take a drought in central Africa in the highlands of Lake Victoria, the source of the Nile.

Humanity is exerting its will to control the waters of the Nile River. Human intervention does not always result in its desired intention. History is littered with ecological disasters at the hands of humanity. Countries across Africa and the Middle East threaten each other with limited access to water.

A possibility is the Aswan Dam in southern Egypt. The waters behind the dam could be withheld.  Ironically, the primary purpose of the dam is to manage flooding of the Nile River.

There is also the matter of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam construction continues on the Nile River. Construction of the dam is located in northwest Ethiopia. When finished, the GERD will be the largest hydroelectric plant in Africa. As of the Spring of 2019, the project is estimated to be completed in 2022. Once finished, it estimated to take 5-15 years for the reservoir to fill to capacity.

As a trend, the levels of the Nile River are receding in recent times. This is due to countries up river in central Africa who are using more of the water as a resource. As of December 2006, the following statement was issued by NASA based on satellite imagery. “Several African basins, such as the Congo, Zambezi and Nile, show significant drying over the past five years.”  A February 2010 headline from a newspaper in the Sudan read, Nile River Volume Decreases, The Problem To Local Communities.

God can use the free will of humans to achieve His purpose. It does not mean He will.

Ezekiel 30:3 For the day is near, the day of the LORD is near; it will be a day of clouds, a time of doom for the nations.

June 24, 2018: Senior Presidential Adviser Jared Kushner has been traveling around the Middle East. He has been meeting with kings and heads of states in the name of peace.

Kushner recently completed an interview with the Palestinian newspaper Al-Quds (this is the Arab name for Jerusalem).

“I am ready to work with President Abbas, if he wishes. You deserve to have a bright future, now is the time for both the Israelis and Palestinians to strengthen their leaderships and re-focus them to encourage them to open up towards a solution, and not fear trying.”

“If President Abbas is ready to go back to the negotiations table, then we are ready to participate in the discussion, but if it’s not the case, then we are going to make the plan public.” Senior Presidential Adviser, Jared Kushner

Details of the Trump peace plan are beginning to emerge. East Jerusalem is believed to be designated as the capital of Palestine. Economic incentives for infrastructure are part of the package and plan. The status quo will remain for the religious sites on the Temple Mount.

“They all insist that al-Aqsa Mosque should continue to be open to all Muslims who wish to pray.”

President Trump is reportedly agreeable to a two state plan if both sides support the notion.

Kushner is traveling with President Trump’s Mideast Envoy Jason Greenblatt. Their travels have seen these two in meetings around the Middle East. The focus of the talks is Palestinian-Israeli peace. Stops included a visit with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Bin Salman.

Discussions took place in Qatar with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

A trip to Jordan resulted in talks with King Abdullah II of Jordan.

In Egypt, Kushner met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

The latest stop includes meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. Ambassador David Friedman.
