God’s Fall Appointments are the Feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, and the Feast of Tabernacles. It’s that time of the year and the Feasts are approaching and have already begun according to the Essenes.

The beginning of the Jewish civil new year is upon us within the next couple of weeks. This is the Hebrew month of Tishri. It will be the Hebrew year 5785 on a traditional and secular calendar. The date for Yom Teruah is calculated to be near sunset Wednesday, October 2. Some will confirm the new year with the sighting of the new moon. The new year begins when the new moon is confirmed by two witnesses.
As the Essenes mark time, the month of Tishri began on Wednesday, September 18. The Essenes celebrate their New Year in the spring with the beginning of Nisan or Abib per Exodus 12:2.
Numbers 29:1 ‘Now in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall also have a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work. It will be to you a day for blowing trumpets.

The first fall holiday has many names. It is called the Feast of Trumpets by Christians. It is recognized as the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. Some refer to it as the “Hidden Day” or the “Wedding of the Messiah”. In Judaism, it is called Yom Teruah which means the “Day of Blowing”.
The second fall holiday is the Day of Atonement. See Leviticus 16. Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement is celebrated on Tishri 10th. It is the last day of the 40 day period of Teshuvah or repent in the Hebrew. This holiday is viewed at the holiest day of Judaism. The day is a Sabbath day of rest. Yom Kippur is the only day a fast is required. The day begins at sun down. This is the busiest day of the year for the high priest with multiple animal sacrifices.
The beginning for the Day of Atonement in 2024 is calculated at sundown Friday, October 11 and ends the next day, Saturday evening, October 12. This date is ultimately determined by the confirmation of the new moon 10 days earlier. The Essenes mark the date as Friday, September 27 through the next day.
Leviticus 23:33-36 Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘On the fifteenth of this seventh month is the Feast of Booths for seven days to the LORD. On the first day is a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work of any kind. For seven days you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD. On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation and present an offering by fire to the LORD; it is an assembly. You shall do no laborious work.’”
The third and last fall holiday on God’s calendar is Tabernacles. It is also called Sukkot, the Feast of Booths, the Festival of Tents, or the Feast of the Harvest because it was after the harvest in the fall. Simply put, it was also called “the Feast” or “the Festival”. This festival is a week-long festival from Tishri 15 to 21 on a Hebrew calendar.
On our western Gregorian calendar, in 2024, the Feast of Tabernacles will be observed from about Wednesday, October 16 to Wednesday, October 23. Or, pending the new moon confirmed at the beginning of the Hebrew month of Tishri.
The Essenes mark the beginning of Tabernacles on Wednesday, October 2 (which happens to be the day the secular calendar calculates the onset of Rosh Hashanah or Yom Teruah) and runs through Wednesday, October 9.
There are seven God appointed holidays communicated through the Mosaic Law. The first four in the Spring were fulfilled to the day by Jesus Himself with His death, burial, resurrection, and the giving of the Holy Spirit. If the first four spring holidays were fulfilled by Jesus on the God appointed holiday, why would the Fall holidays be any different?
Mark 13:32-33 “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come…”
It is easy to see why the verse above is true with all the calendar confusion. The post has covered 4 different time keeping systems for marking God’s Appointments. Ultimately, the question is how does God mark time?

Cycles, cycles, cycles…

Nile River
Isaiah 19:5-7 And the waters of the sea will be dried up, and the river will be dry and parched, and its canals will become foul, and the branches of Egypt’s Nile will diminish and dry up, reeds and rushes will rot away. There will be bare places by the Nile, on the brink of the Nile, and all that is sown by the Nile will be parched, will be driven away, and will be no more.
There are multiple places in the Bible that says the Nile River will dry. Isaiah is not the only place. See what Zechariah and Ezekiel have to say.
Zechariah’s comments are interesting. The prophet states God will strike the waves in the sea to bring this about.
Zechariah 10:11b …And He will strike the waves in the sea, so that all the depths of the Nile will dry up…

Nehemiah 6:15 So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of the month Elul, in fifty-two days.
The verse above is the only time Elul is mentioned in the Bible.
Elul is the last month of the civic calendar in Judaism. Elul is the sixth month of the religious calendar.
Elul 1 marks the beginning of Teshuvah, a 40 day period that runs through the holiday of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Teshuvah is the Hebrew word for repent.
On our western Gregorian calendar in the year 2024, this would be at sunset September 3rd as calculated by 21st century time keeping.
Those keeping a traditional Hebrew lunar calendar depend on when the new moon is confirmed by two witnesses. People on the ground near Jerusalem will be looking to verify the event and confirm the new month by seeing the little slice or a crescent of the new moon.

The Essenes followed a solar calendar. A solar calendar has a leap week as compared to a leap month with a lunar calendar. On the Essene calendar, Elul 1st took place on what was August 18th, 2024 or roughly two weeks ago. It is the year 5949 AM. In other words, 5,949 years since creation.
The Essenes also marked the beginning of the year in the spring with the month of Nisan or Abib as described in Exodus.
Exodus 12:1-2 Now the Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, “This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you…”
Moses referred to this month as Abib. Exodus 13:4 On this day in the month of Abib, you are about to go forth. Per Strong’s Concordance, Abib means: fresh, young barley ears; month of ear-forming, of greening of crop, of growing green; month of Exodus and Passover.
The month is called Nisan in Nehemiah 2:1And it came about in the month Nisan… It means “their flight”. Israel took “their flight” out of Egypt in Nisan. The meaning of month Nisan is a reminder to Israel.
As the Essenes mark time, this is the 49th year of a 50 year cycle. We are in the middle of a Sabbatical or Shemitah year. That would make the next New Year in the spring of 2025 a Jubilee year.

It is Jewish custom to blow a shofar (ram’s horn) one time every day during the season of Teshuvah. The trumpet is blown after the morning service. The trumpet is blown every day except Shabbat or the Sabbath (Saturday for us in western culture) and the last day of month of Elul.
The trumpet blast signified the beginning of the month.
Psalm 81:3-4 Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the full moon, on our feast day. For it is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
Numbers 10:10On the day of your gladness also, and at your appointed feasts and at the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings. They shall be a reminder of you before your God: I am the LORD your God.”
Some form of a trumpet blast(s) is used at Rosh Hashanah (Feast of Trumpets) and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement). A trumpet blast also signals the beginning of a Jubilee (Leviticus 25).
The shofar blast was also a call to war and the prospect of danger.
