What happens when a nation celebrates what God condemns? When truth is rejected, righteousness is mocked, and evil is called good?
What if God’s judgment begins not with catastrophe, but with the leaders a nation receives?
Consider the sobering words of Scripture.
ISAIAH 5:20 “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.”
HOSEA 13:11 “I gave you a king in my anger, and I took him away in my wrath.”
ISAIAH 3:4 “And I will make boys their princes, and infants shall rule over them.”
ISAIAH 3:8 “For Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen, because their speech and their deeds are against the LORD.”
God is not indifferent to rebellion.
And there is another warning we dare not overlook.
GENESIS 12:3 “I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse”
God’s covenant promises to Abraham are not political conveniences. Nations and their leaders should take His Word seriously.
Recent announcements concerning American assistance to Israel remind us how quickly political relationships can change. But God’s covenant promises remain steadfast.
AND WHERE ARE THE SHEPHERDS?
Before we ask why our leaders have abandoned righteousness, perhaps we should ask whether our pulpits have abandoned truth.
When pastors compromise Scripture, accommodate cultural rebellion, avoid difficult doctrines, and refuse to proclaim the whole counsel of God, spiritual deception flourishes.
2 TIMOTHY 4:3–4 — People will reject sound teaching and seek teachers who tell them what they want to hear.
JEREMIAH 23:1 — God pronounces judgment on shepherds who destroy and scatter His flock.
ACTS 20:27 — Paul declares that he did not shrink from proclaiming the whole counsel of God.
A nation suffering from spiritual blindness does not need shepherds who make the darkness more comfortable. It needs men who faithfully proclaim the Word of God.
And Scripture warns that the last days will be marked by increasing deception and apostasy.
2 TIMOTHY 3:1–5 — Moral corruption and a form of godliness without its power.
1 TIMOTHY 4:1 — Some will depart from the faith.
2 THESSALONIANS 2:3 — The coming rebellion.
MATTHEW 24:12 — Increasing lawlessness and love growing cold.
Romans 1:24–28 describes God giving rebellious people over to their own desires.
Sometimes judgment comes not because God refuses to give people what they want, but because He allows them to have it.
A nation can lose its moral compass long before it loses its freedom.
We cannot declare every election an act of divine judgment.
But Scripture leaves no doubt that God judges rebellion, holds shepherds accountable, and rules over the kingdoms of men.
Our greatest national crisis is not political. It is spiritual.
No election can accomplish what only repentance can address.
Earthly kingdoms rise and fall. Leaders come and go. Nations rebel. Darkness deepens.
BUT THE KING IS COMING!
Daniel 2:44 promises a Kingdom that will never be destroyed.
Our ultimate hope is not in Washington, political parties, or earthly rulers.
Our hope is in Jesus Christ, the returning King of kings!
As Adrian Rogers famously said: “It’s getting gloriously dark!”
