Weathering the Storms of Life… Christine McDonald

Posted in #PaulthePoke, Christine "Clarity" McDonald with tags , , on January 31, 2020 by paulthepoke

Bleak, dark, and piercing cold, it was a night for the well–housed and fed to draw round the bright fire, and thank God they were at home; and for the homeless starving wretch to lay him down and die. Many hunger–worn outcasts close their eyes in our bare streets at such times, who, let their crimes have been what they may, can hardly open them in a more bitter world. ―Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist

Have you ever felt so overwhelmed by life or a circumstance that you lacked the ability to see your way through? Perhaps you’ve just come through such a storm.

Oftentimes we can look back at those moments and marvel at how God brought us through. Each time we survive, we become a little bit tougher. Each experience gives us the grit to hold on just a little bit longer than the
storm before.

Now, flip the script and imagine your life was the storm, and the reprieves were few and far between. This is the life I describe in the following story.

Even in those dark moments, God was present in my suffering, just as He is in yours. It can be difficult to picture God in such a dark place, yet we know that nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:38). His love is right there with us.

As you journey with me in this story, keep your eyes open for His provisions. They may seem small, but they meant everything to my survival and ability to hold on just a little bit longer.

What are some ways He has provided for you and sustained you that might have seemed insignificant to an outsider, but meant everything to you? What are ways you can share little moments, little things, that might mean the world to someone else?

“Love your neighbor, all of ’em.” -Christine Clarity McDonald

We hope you will join us on the journey of getting her story on film. To book Christine for a public speaking engagement or purchase the CRY PURPLE book, click on the link below.

Revelation: Philadelphia; Stick With It, A Time Is Coming

Posted in Prophecy, Revelation with tags , , , , on December 18, 2017 by paulthepoke

Revelation 3:10 Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth.

Perseverance…This is the word for “patient endurance”. Perseverance is the Greek word ηυπομονε/hupomone. Per Strong’s Concordance, it means: constancy, endurance; in the New Testament the characteristic of a man who is not swerved from his deliberate purpose and his loyalty to faith by even the greatest trials and sufferings; patiently and steadfastly enduring.

Patiently waiting is not something we want to hear in the culture of here and now. “Give it to me now! I deserve it!”

But…believers are called to be steadfastly loyal to Christ regardless of what is happening in our lives. It is a commandment from Jesus. The church at Philadelphia obeyed.

Perseverance has its reward. Jesus promises believers will be delivered from the hour of trial.

The Greek word for “hour” is ὥρα/hora. Defined by Strong’s Concordance it means: a definite space of time, a season, an hour, the particular time for anything.

A “trial” is πειρασμός/peirasmos in the original language. The word can also be translated as: trial, probation, testing, being tried, temptation, calamity, or affliction.

Earth Night

Christ makes it very clear who is on trial…the whole world, those who dwell on the earth. The concept is stated two times to make the point. The scope of the trial is the totality of the world.

The “world” or οἰκουμένη/oikoumené properly is the land that is being inhabited, the land in a state of habitation, the inhabited world. Put another way, humanity living on the globe of the earth.

If the previous definition is not specific enough, those who dwell on the earth or the γῆ, ge. This is the the physical earth, soil, or land.

Look at the world we are living in today. Inhabitants of the planet earth pay attention. There will be a definite, specific time for trial and judgment. It is coming regardless what any of us think or believe.

During His Olivet Discourse, Jesus said in Luke 21:28 “Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

Revelation: Thyatira with Love, Faith, Service, & Perserverance

Revelation 2:19 “I know your deeds, and your love and faith and service and perseverance, and that your deeds of late are greater than at first.” –Jesus

Jesus knows what is going on in His church. The local body in Thyatira receives high marks and they are getting better. They appear to be the model church. Here are the characteristics demonstrated.

Love…the Greek word αγαπε/agape. Per Strong’s Concordance, it means: brotherly love, affection, good will, benevolence, to welcome, to entertain, to be fond of, to love dearly. This love is the nature of God.

Faith…the Greek word πιστισ/pistis. There is the dictionary definition and then there are times where Scripture defines the term. This is an example where the Bible is the definitive authority. The author of Hebrews defines “faith”.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

The idea of “hope” is the expectation of reality at some point in the future. “Hope” is not happen stance…well maybe? Gee, I hope so? No, Biblical “hope” is the belief the promise will come to pass.

Hebrews 11 is the chapter in the Bible on the topic of faith. The chapter has been called the “Heroes of Faith.” Faith was the issue, is the issue, and will be the issue. Do we believe God and what He has to say?

Hebrews 11:2-3 For by it the men of old gained approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.

Service…the Greek word διακονια/diakonia. It means: service of the office of prophet, apostle, evangelist, elder, administration, or a deacon; those who by the command of God proclaim and promote religion among men; the service of those who prepare and present food.

In the sense of the body of Christ, we are all ministers. We can all serve the Lord in one way or another. We have different skill sets and gifts. We all need each other in Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:5 And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord.

Ephesians 4:12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ…

The book of 2 Corinthians discusses this term more than any other book in the New Testament.

Perseverance…the Greek word ηυπομονε/hupomone.  It means: constancy, endurance; in the New Testament the characteristic of a man who is not swerved from his deliberate purpose and his loyalty to faith by even the greatest trials and sufferings; patiently and steadfastly enduring.

Love one another. Have faith in the promise of God’s word. Serve one another whatever your calling. And persevere and endure until He comes and gets us.
