Isaiah 19:2, Trend Update, Egyptian Violence

Isaiah 19:2 “So I will incite Egyptians against Egyptians; and they will each fight against his brother and each against his neighbor, city against city and kingdom against kingdom…”

This prophecy was written by Isaiah approximately 2,700 years ago. God states He is the one behind the actions and events.

Mid August 2013, Trend Update

Approximately 1 ½ months ago, the elected president of Egypt was overthrown in a coup by the military. The two fighting factions are the military of Egypt and the Muslim Brotherhood. The situation in Egypt has grown progressively worse. The violence is escalating with over 600 people confirmed dead and over 4,000 injured in recent events. Violence is reported across the country. More protests are being planned.

Heat is making the stench from the corpses almost unbearable.  Ice is being brought in to chill the bodies. Islamists have attacked Christian targets in several areas torching churches, homes, and businesses. Buildings and property throughout Egypt are being burned. Tourists are not recommended to travel to Egypt. Joint military exercises between the United States and Egypt have been cancelled by President Obama.

News information was gathered from the Associated Press.

Again, I am not suggesting the events we are seeing today are Biblical Prophecy being played out before our eyes. It may be. Time will tell. I would probably have more conviction on prophecy unfolding if the Nile River goes dry. The Nile going dry has not happened in history to my knowledge.

Isaiah 19:2, Trend Update, Egyptian Turmoil

Isaiah 19:2 “So I will incite Egyptians against Egyptians; and they will each fight against his brother and each against his neighbor, city against city and kingdom against kingdom…”

Early July 2013, Trend Update.

The military has overthrown the democratically elected president of Egypt. Here is a list of recent headlines noted in the last couple of days since the event unfolded.

An interim president has been appointed along with a prime minister.

At least 35 people died and more than 1,000 were wounded in violence on Friday and Saturday, with the army struggling to maintain order in Cairo, Alexandria and other cities and towns, where rival demonstrators fought street battles.

The most deadly clashes were in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, where 14 people died and 200 were wounded.

In central Cairo, protesters clashed late into Friday night with stones, knives, petrol bombs and clubs as armored personnel carriers rumbled among them.

It took hours to restore calm on the Nile River bridges around the landmark Egyptian Museum. Anti-Mursi activists remained encamped in a suburb of the capital, but Cairo and others cities were relatively calm as darkness fell on Saturday.

On Saturday, a Coptic Christian priest was shot dead in Egypt’s lawless North Sinai province in what could be the first sectarian attack since Mursi’s overthrow, raising concerns about the potential for further religious violence.

There were more attacks on army checkpoints in Sinai overnight and gunmen fired on a central security building in El Arish, security sources said.

A new Islamist group announced its formation in the Sinai peninsula adjoining Israel and the Gaza Strip, calling the army’s removal of Mursi a declaration of war on their faith and threatening violence to impose Islamic law.

Violence is wide spread throughout the country.

Isaiah 19:4 Egyptian Dictator?

Moreover, I will deliver the Egyptians into the hand of a cruel master, and a mighty king will rule over them,” declares the Lord GOD of hosts.

God will intentionally give (piel stem verb form in Hebrew) the Egyptian people this leader. There are two adjectives that describe this leader in the verse. You can bet this leader will use force on the population.

Qasheh:  (translated cruel) This word can be defined as hard, cruel, severe, obstinate, difficult, fierce, intense, vehement, stubborn, stiff-necked, rigorous (of battle).

`Az: (translated mighty) This word can be defined as strong, mighty, fierce.

These first four verses of Isaiah 19 make one point over and over and over. God is controlling the action. It is observed in the language and grammar. This is a direct quote from God.

December 2012, Mohammed Morsi has been elected the President of Egypt. Just one day after getting international credit and acclaim for assisting with brokering a cease fire between Israel and Palestinians, President Morsi declared sweeping presidential authority to himself. This was met with swift opposition. Tahrir Sqare in Cairo was filled with hundreds of thousands of protesters. Riots were taking place in the city. Protestors stormed the presidential palace and Morsi was forced to flee.  The Egyptian Stock Market declined over 10% in one day. Egyptian judges rebelled against the presidential decree. Political adversaries proclaimed him “pharoah”. Morsi’s response, “I won’t be another dictator.”

Time will tell…

Isaiah 19:3-4 Brutal Egyptian Leader

“Then the spirit of the Egyptians will be demoralized within them; and I will confound their strategy, so that they will resort to idols and ghosts of the dead and to mediums and spiritists. Moreover, I will deliver the Egyptians into the hand of a cruel master, and a mighty king will rule over them,” declares the Lord GOD of hosts.

Verse 3: Look at the two verbs in the initial part of the verse. The Egyptian spirit is to be emptied and demoralized. The translation of “confound” does not tell the whole story. The idea communicated is intentional, intensive, and repeated action of swallowing their strategy. One could get the idea that the Egyptians will have many ideas and solutions to try to stop the civil war.  These ideas (political, economic, religious, etc.) will be repeatedly shot down by God. The Egyptian solutions to the civil war will not succeed because God directly acts. Eventually frustration sets in and the country turns to the occult, seeking the dead and intermediaries with the dead.

Verse 4: Egyptian leaders have not a good record of human rights whether it is their citizens or not. Observe the treatment of the Jewish people in Exodus, slave labor. Pharaoh eventually tried to run the Jews down and kill them but drowned in the Red Sea.

Hosni Mubarak’s record of civil rights was less than impressive. He was an oppressive leader toward his people. Political prisoners report horrors of torture and killings they witnessed.  The people had enough and he is no longer in power. To quote the 80’s rock band Cinderella, “You don’t know what you got, till it is gone.” There is a ruler who is coming and will be appointed, according to the Bible, by God. This guy will not be nice. Recent history of the Middle East tells us a more radical and fundamental leader is likely. Every time “free” elections are held, a terrorist group leader is elected overwhelmingly. What we do not know is 1) when will this leader be appointed or 2) if this current day event is the scenario in which he comes to power.
