Predestined With Free Will: Pharaoh Meets the LORD

Romans 9:16-17 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”

The Apostle Paul is quoting Exodus 9:16.

Here is a text book example of a man’s will on display verses the will of God. Pharaoh is representing the nation Egypt. The Apostle Paul is pointing out man’s will or a nation’s will is no match for God’s will. Pharaoh clearly exerts his choices and will towards the Jewish slaves in Egypt. Little does Pharaoh know, he is being used by God.

Critics would say Pharaoh had no choice in the matter. They argue Pharaoh was made for failure. The critic says God is not fair and unjust towards Pharaoh.

Moses has one simple request.

Exodus 5:1 Afterward Moses and Aaron went and said to Pharaoh, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, ‘Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.’”

Exodus 5:2 But Pharaoh said, “Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, and moreover, I will not let Israel go.”

But look at Pharaoh’s attitude when he first encounters Moses the representative of God. Pharaoh clearly understands Moses and Aaron. There is no confusion. Pharaoh does not acknowledge God. He questions His authority and existence. Pharaoh is not interested in playing along with this so-called LORD’s request. Pharaoh will have his way and do what he wants regardless of any request. Israel is going nowhere. Israel will stay under the authority of Egypt. The Hebrew people have work to do for Pharaoh.

God is formal with Pharaoh. He introduces Himself by His proper name. YHWH (scholars refer to this as the Tetragrammaton, Greek for four letters) is the proper name of the Hebrew God of the Bible. The correct spelling is YHWH. Note, there are no vowels in this term. Vowels from the name Adonai were substituted and the term Yahweh emerged. Jehovah is a word that has been translated to English from the Hebrew, Yahweh. The name for LORD is Jehovah. It means the existing one. This name is so sacred, Jews refuse to pronounce it. The name is first introduced in Exodus 3:14 when Moses and God are having a discussion. His name is a statement of existence.

Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

If one is looking for proof that God created or God exists, you are wasting your time. It is assumed. God is eternal and self-existent. God always has been and always will be.

Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam 2022 Completion Date

Isaiah 19:5-8 The waters from the sea will dry up, and the river will be parched and dry. The canals will emit a stench, the streams of Egypt will thin out and dry up; the reeds and rushes will rot away. The bulrushes by the Nile, by the edge of the Nile and all the sown fields by the Nile will become dry, be driven away, and be no more. And the fishermen will lament, and all those who cast a line into the Nile will mourn, and those who spread nets on the waters will pine away.

Yes, the Bible says the Nile River will go dry. This is part of the end time scenario leading up to the return of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

December 2018: Metal and Engineering Corporation (Metec) has been fired from the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) project. Metec is military run company. The main contractor for GERD project is Italy’s Salini Impregilo.

Salini Impregilo had filed complaints against Metec. As a result, the former chairman of Metec and other leaders were jailed for corruption with dam project.

“We have a plan to generate power from the first two units within the coming two years and then probably the dam will be completed in the year 2022,” Kifle Hora, GERD Construction Manager.

Ethiopia is starting to reap the benefits of the GERD project. Ethiopia made $37 million during the first nine months of last year. The country exported 190 MW of power. Along with the Gilgel Gibe 3 project, Ethiopia is estimated to export more than 10,000 MW. Experts believe Ethiopia economy has the ability to export over 45,000 MW.

January 2018: Turkey is quietly building a naval presence on the Red Sea. The Turks and the Sudanese have inked a deal.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has proclaimed Turkey has been given access to the Suakin Island from Sudan. The island is effectively across the Red Sea from Mecca, Saudia Arabia. Historically, Turkey is no stranger to the area. The Suakin Island has ties to the Ottoman Empire during the 16th century. The island was the capital of the Habes Province.

Turkey will manage and rebuild infrastructure. The agreement is open ended in regards to time. Sudanese Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour indicated military and security cooperation are part of the agreement. With the treaty, Turkey now has access to other ports in Sudan.

The military commanders in chief of Turkey, Qatar, and Sudan met at the signing. This alliance is consistent with the Sunni branch of Islam and the Muslim Brotherhood.

 

The alliance between Turkey and Sudan is concerning to the southern coalition of Sunni Muslims including Egypt and Saudia Arabia. Egypt is expressing concern. The Egyptians have a water problem. Access to the Nile River is the issue. Egypt gets 90% of their water from the Nile River. Sudan and Egypt are not working together regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

Egypt is currently spending millions beefing up their military. They recently purchased two helicopter carriers, one frigate from France, three submarines from Germany, and dozens of warplanes from France and Russia.

 

The Turks currently have a seaport in Somalia. Turkey already has military troops in Qatar. Turkey’s Recep Erdogan has his eyes on the religious sites in Mecca.

Water and Muslim religious sites are volatile issues.

 

The prophet Ezekiel stated Russia, Turkey, and allies are prophesied to invade Israel (Ezekiel 38-39). Russia and Sudan have recently formed ties. Russia has entered Libya as of early 2017.

Trend Update: Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, January 2018

The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) construction continues on the Nile River. Construction of the dam is located in northwest Ethiopia. When finished, the GERD will be the largest hydroelectric plant in Africa. As of the summer of 2017, the project is estimated to be 60% complete. Once finished, it estimated to take 5-15 years for the reservoir to fill to capacity. There is no definitive timeline for the completion of the project.

Egypt is calling for an independent third party to assist with negotiation of water rights for the Nile River. Egypt is admitting previous talks have failed. The World Bank is looking to be an intermediary in the discussions. The Egyptians have concerns about water loss. Proposal of dam in southeast Egypt is now in the works.

Isaiah 9:18-19 Humanity Impacts the Environment

Isaiah 9:18-19 For wickedness burns like a fire; it consumes briars and thorns; it even sets the thickets of the forest aflame and they roll upward in a column of smoke. By the fury of the LORD of hosts the land is burned up, and the people are like fuel for the fire; no man spares his brother.

Isaiah uses idiomatic language to describe wickedness. The wickedness can be in civil relations, moral, ethical, and religious connotations. The people’s wickedness is like a destructive fire. A fire burns vegetation and wood.

As God sees it, the people’s actions are like a fire. God’s judgment in return is a fire. So the logic goes, the people’s actions (wickedness) result in a consuming fire of the land. In the idiomatic language, briars, thorns, and woods are the fuel. In reality, the people become the fuel in their judgment.

God’s word says that people’s actions can affect the environment. I realize in today’s “scientific” world that seems pretty far-fetched in some circles. This concept leaves the “global warming community” and the “environmental left” in a tight spot. These two groups would agree that man has negatively impacted the environment. This position would also be in agreement with God. This does not mean these left leaning organizations are in agreement with the Bible. If you read their beliefs, they are not consistent with God’s precepts.

The greatest environmental disaster of all time was due to man’s actions and sins. That disaster was the flood in Genesis.  Genesis 6:13 Then God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth.

Genesis 7:4 “For after seven more days, I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights; and I will blot out from the face of the land every living thing that I have made.” The wickedness of humanity resulted in forty days and forty nights of rain. Incidentally, this is the first time in history it rained according to the Bible. Genesis 7:4 is the first mention of rain being caused. Genesis 2:5 indicates that God had not sent rain on the earth. Genesis 2:6 indicates there was a mist from the ground that watered the surface of the earth. God originally used His own misting sprinkler system to water plant life.

Man’s actions have impacted the environment in the past and in today’s world. Man’s actions and wickedness will impact the environment in the future Tribulation. Revelation 8:7 talks of hail and fire. Revelation 16:21 talks of the plague of hail.  The sun is progressively impacted until there is darkness in Joel 2:10, 3:15, and Revelation 16:10.

Matthew 24:37 “For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah.
