The Cancer Called Despair

Posted in Christine "Clarity" McDonald with tags , , , , , , , on January 12, 2019 by paulthepoke

Guilt and shame are the mental/emotional cancer of prostituted persons, eating away at the very core of their being, slowly consuming the individual’s joy, hope, and life. —Christine Clarity McDonald

The Cambridge English Dictionary defines despair as, “a feeling of being without hope or of not being able to improve a situation.” Despair is not a respecter of persons. It does not care whether you have much or have little, or whether you are a saint or a sinner.

The Scriptures are full of people experiencing despair. David wrote in Psalm 40:2, “For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me.”

The prophet Isaiah also spoke of despair in Isaiah 59:9: “So justice is far from us, and righteousness does not reach us. We look for light, but all is darkness; for brightness, but we walk in deep shadows.”

If permitted, despair will take everything from us, including our lives. It is a lie that seeks to end our fight for life and hope in this world. At times it is even spurred on by well–intentioned but misguided people, agencies, policies, governments, and even churches.

Wherever we live, wherever our sphere of influence exists, we should consider how we can establish and maintain hope in those around us. Just as despair, guilt, and shame rob us of life, hope breathes life back into us.

God never leaves us or forsakes us. Even the smallest glimmers of hope are sparks of God beckoning us to Him. There are many moments in my life when, though I had not yet found God, I heard the whisper of hope.

Romans 5:3–5 “…we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”

Adam & the Fall of Man… Phil Kulis

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.

Notice something? Adam and Eve’s eyes were opened at the same time even though Eve ate first.

The command to not eat wasn’t given to Eve. It was given to Adam before Eve was created.

Genesis 2:17-18 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.” Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.”

Eve didn’t disobey a command from God because God didn’t give the command to Eve. Neither was there a command “nor shall you touch it” from God.

Eve’s eyes were opened when Adam disobeyed. Until he ate she was justified by his obedience even though she had sinned.

Jesus cross sun

The Second Adam, Jesus Christ, was obedient to God even until death on a cross. Therefore, His bride the Church is justified by His righteousness in obedience even though the bride has sinned.

It’s not about your unrighteousness because of disobedience, you’re doomed. It’s about His righteousness because of obedience. In Him, we have grace and mercy.

Her sin would be addressed same as the Church’s sin is addressed in Christ.

Sadly, mankind has blamed Eve all this time. The fall of Man was Adam’s fault.

Romans 5:12-21 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned, for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.

But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many. And the free gift is not like the result of that one man’s sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification. For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.

Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Job 21:7 Why do the wicked still live, continue on, also become very powerful?

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life, is not from the Father but is from the world.

Caution, this is an adult conversation.

Saw a news clip this morning where a supposedly famous female designer was defending Harvey Weinstein by saying the way women dress now days is just asking to be touched inappropriately. Dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. If a woman wants touched, there won’t be any question about it. No still means no. Just because you have power & wealth, it doesn’t give you the right to be an asshat. Just because a woman wants to feel good about herself or feel sexy, it doesn’t mean she wants your attention or to be touched. Be a gentleman, not an entitled jerk!

Ephesians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

The following thoughts are from the other Paul, the Poke.

Serious question, are any of us any different than Harvey Weinstein? As people, we think the sins of another are far worse than anything we do. “Well I’m not as bad as Joe Blow!”

Here is the standard from Jesus Himself.

Matthew 5:28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Anyone out there innocent? Remember, pride and lying are sins as well.

There is a solution…got Jesus???

Romans 5:8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Have you ever wanted to blame God for situations in your life? Have you found yourself asking “Why me God?” He didn’t make the choices that got us where we are, but He can bring us through those trials. Always put your faith in Him, even when things seem impossible. He’s got our backs.

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Romans 5:3-5 More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Have a hopeful week my friends!!!
