Virtue In Your Vision… Joshua of Ghana

GENESIS 11:1-32

Genesis 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

John Sculley, a former chief executive officer of two blue chip companies in the USA once said, “The future belongs to those who see possibilities before they become obvious.” Vision is what keeps a person going. Working without vision is like laboring without a purpose. It is like travelling without a destination. Vision is the picture you have on your mind or heart that makes you look beyond yourself, abilities, environment and present state.

What the builders of the Tower of Babel sought to achieve through their vision and efforts was, at best, self-serving. God’s original command to man after creation was to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth (Genesis 1:28). But contrary to this command, they opted to build a city and tower to reach heaven because they would not want to be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

We need to recognize that there are Satan-inspired visions. These are the kinds that Satan and his cohorts emboss on people’s minds or hearts. Such was what the builders of Babel had. There are also self-generated visions, society-imposed visions and Spirit-inspired visions. Before you run with your vision, it would be wise to check up the source. Spirit-inspired or God-given visions do not give success or breakthrough alone; they also give peace and joy. The Scripture says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he” (Proverbs 29:18).

Vision without virtue is destructive. That is what happened to the people who tried to build the Tower of Babel. What kind of vision do you have? Our visions must be in line with God’s purpose for us. For the believer, the right kind of vision is to reach the unsaved and backslidden with the gospel, whether they are adults, youths or children.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Vision without virtue is destructive.

Trend Update: Tower of Babel “An Actual Building”, May 2017

Genesis 11:4-5 They said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.” The Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.

A tablet revealed by the Smithsonian indicates the Tower of Babel is “an actual building from antiquity.” The private collection of tablets has not been studied or released until now.

Dr. Andrew George is a professor of Babylonian at the University of London. He is an expert in Babylonian studies. Here is some background information and a quote from Dr. George.

“As an Assyriologist, I don’t deal in the Bible, and I am not a religious person, but in this case, I can say there is an actual building which does seem to be the inspiration for the Biblical narrative.”

He might be an atheist…

The inscription on the tablet states the following. “From the Upper Sea, which is the Mediterranean, to the Lower Sea, which is the Persian Gulf, the far-flung lands and the teeming people of the habitations, I mobilized in order to construct this building.”

Genesis 11:7 “Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”

But Dr. George is not buying the confusion of languages as detailed by God.

“The myth about the multitude of tongues comes from the context described in the stele about the multitude of peoples enlisted in the construction of the tower. There were many languages spoken on the construction site. From that it may be that the Bible got the idea of the confusion of tongues.”

“In the 19th century there was a discovery that the Assyrian kings described in the Bible were real and corroborated by archaeological evidence, making us ask now, how much more in the Bible is true?”
The scientist and archeologist is convinced the Tower of Babel is real history. Dr. George is finding that science and religion can be reconciled. Once again, the Bible confirms science.

Trend Update: The UN & 70 Nations, January 2017

Zechariah 12:3 It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it.

January 10, 2017: Here we are four days before the big meeting in Paris, France. The entire world is wringing their hands. What are we going to do with Jerusalem? Zechariah 12:3 is a reality in our world today. The city is a heavy stone. Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. A future Palestinian state wants Jerusalem as its capital.

A critical issue is UN Resolution 2334. The document is hostile to the nation of Israel. The UN refused to acknowledge their existence as a country and refers to Israel as “occupiers”. Even the Western Wall where the Jews go to pray has been deemed “illegally occupied territory”.

For those interested in reading the resolution, click on the link below.

Representatives from seventy (70) countries are scheduled to attend the UN meeting sponsored by the French. If seventy nations rings a bell, see Genesis 10-11 and the original table of nations. This was such a great idea back in Nimrod’s day, God scattered people across the earth and confused humanity’s language. The world was broken into seventy (70) countries. This was the original UN emerging from the Tower of Babel, seventy countries.

While we are discussing the number 70…Make what you want of this. It is up to the individual reader.  The following is from the Washington Post. This is the opening paragraph to the story.

JERUSALEM — On a cloudless blue morning, an honor guard brought the flag-draped coffin of Shimon Peres to the Mount Herzl national cemetery Friday as 100 world leaders and dignitaries from 70 countries bid farewell to the former Israeli leader and Nobel laureate whose dream of a lasting peace with the Palestinians remains elusive.

The number 70 does have significance in the Bible. Here are a few examples of many provided in Scripture.

Exodus 24:9 Then Moses went up with Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel…

Numbers 11:16a The Lord therefore said to Moses, “Gather for Me seventy men from the elders of Israel…

Jeremiah 25:11 This whole land will be a desolation and a horror, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

Jeremiah 29:10 For thus says the Lord, “When seventy years have been completed for Babylon…”

Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy place.

Make what you want of it. Do your own homework. Get out a concordance and look up “seventy”. Draw your own conclusions. It is what it is…just making an observation.

What is intriguing is looking at maps on websites leading up to this meeting on January 15, 2017. Accommodations have already been made for a future state of Palestine. Areas surrounding the West Bank and the Gaza Strip are already referred to as Palestinian Territories. Jerusalem has been divided accordingly. Plans have even been made for nature preserves in the West Bank per the Oslo Accords. The Golan Heights has been committed to Syria as part of a “peace plan”. See video link above for details.

Get ready…

Millennial Kingdom: One Universal Language

Zephaniah 3:9 For then I will give to the peoples purified lips, that all of them may call on the name of the LORD, To serve Him shoulder to shoulder.

What in the world are purified lips? The Hebrew word for “lips” is saphah. Per Strong’s Concordance it means: lip, language, speech. The term “lip” is synonymous with a language or speech.

The New Testament equivalent is “tongue” or glossa in the Greek. For example Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.

The Bible is talking about foreign languages. This is not a reference to a bunch of “spiritual” non-intelligible mumbo jumbo that nobody knows what is being said. 1 Corinthians 14:4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. Get over yourself. If nobody understands it, what good is it? The context of 1 Corinthians 14 is a discussion about foreign languages. There are better gifts, desire those.

The future kingdom holds one language.

“Purified”…The Hebrew word is barar. It means: to purge out, purify, to choose, select; to cleanse, make shining, polish. It is a simple action verb in Hebrew.

The context of the verse in Zephaniah 3 is all the peoples. Verse 6 mentions “nations”. Verse 8 talks about the “nations, kingdoms and the whole earth”.  Verse 19 states the “whole earth”. Verse 20 discusses the “nations of the earth”.

Simply stated, God is going to purge the languages and choose one. Zephaniah 3:9 states there will be one language spoken on Earth in the Millennial Kingdom. I suspect the chosen language will be Hebrew, but whatever God chooses.

Once upon a time, humanity spoke one language. Genesis 11:1 Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words.

Genesis 11:4 They said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

babel

The pride of humanity is on display. They were out to “make a name for themselves”. Man is telling God, “We know best. We know the consequences. And we are going to do this regardless.” Humanity chose to separate itself from God’s direction. This was likely not the first warning from God. Humanity knew the consequences. Mankind knew there was a risk of being “scattered abroad”. But, man rebelled…

…And God responded accordingly as promised. Genesis 11:9 Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of the whole earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of the whole earth.

Babel means confusion. And the tower was not completed. Man apart from God equals confusion.

Zephaniah 3:9 will undo the scattering and confusion created at Babel. In the Millennial Kingdom, humanity will be under the leadership of Jesus. People will be personally taught by Him in His ways. Under the leadership of Christ, people should generally have a better sense of direction and focus.

When channeled in the right direction…Genesis 11:6 The LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them.
