Answers To A Vision… Christine McDonald

Although this all seemed to take forever, the vision was gone as quickly as it had come. I knew deep in my heart my soul that this was God.

I sobbed. I hadn’t gone looking for God, but somehow He had found me.

I realized that God had been with me all along. He was with me through my journey of exploitation, homelessness, and substance abuse. He had been present in all of those experiences. He had brought it all full circle. Here I was, alone in the house we rented, just one block from where I had worked for so many years. We were just a block and a half from the corners where I had prayed for death near those three churches.

It could only be God’s perfect timing. Just thinking about it right now, as I write this—my goodness, the individual pieces required to make this all happen simultaneously fill me with awe!

Moments after my “vision,” I heard a knock at the door as my heart still pounded and tears still flowed. I was scared to open the door, but then I heard a woman say, “Hello! I’m Kris, from the church down the street.” I opened the door and let her in, and we visited. She invited us to church. It was just down the street, on the corner. I agreed. For sure, this was what I needed to continue on my path of growth, away from the streets!

After I started attending the church, I realized it was located right across from my favorite corner, the one where I had worked for years. It was the one with the three churches—one that ran me off all the time, another that had police parked in the parking lot, ready to run me off. Then there was this little one. It was very small, kind of like a little house, located behind Sonic. I had slept in its doorway before, and gotten high in the parking lot. I had even been invited in for service one year by someone who was going into the church on a Sunday morning.

Now, here I sat years later, inside that same church. I asked someone, wanting to make sure I was correct in my thinking about where it was. I was.

Feeling a connection, feeling drawn to attend, I joined that little church and got baptized. When I was taken out of the baptism water, I asked, while wiping the water away from my face, “Can I join your outreach team now?” They agreed, and I started attending the meetings.

Virtue In Your Vision… Joshua of Ghana

GENESIS 11:1-32

Genesis 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

John Sculley, a former chief executive officer of two blue chip companies in the USA once said, “The future belongs to those who see possibilities before they become obvious.” Vision is what keeps a person going. Working without vision is like laboring without a purpose. It is like travelling without a destination. Vision is the picture you have on your mind or heart that makes you look beyond yourself, abilities, environment and present state.

What the builders of the Tower of Babel sought to achieve through their vision and efforts was, at best, self-serving. God’s original command to man after creation was to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth (Genesis 1:28). But contrary to this command, they opted to build a city and tower to reach heaven because they would not want to be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

We need to recognize that there are Satan-inspired visions. These are the kinds that Satan and his cohorts emboss on people’s minds or hearts. Such was what the builders of Babel had. There are also self-generated visions, society-imposed visions and Spirit-inspired visions. Before you run with your vision, it would be wise to check up the source. Spirit-inspired or God-given visions do not give success or breakthrough alone; they also give peace and joy. The Scripture says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he” (Proverbs 29:18).

Vision without virtue is destructive. That is what happened to the people who tried to build the Tower of Babel. What kind of vision do you have? Our visions must be in line with God’s purpose for us. For the believer, the right kind of vision is to reach the unsaved and backslidden with the gospel, whether they are adults, youths or children.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Vision without virtue is destructive.

Revelation: Laodicea, Real Vision

Revelation 3:18c…and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.

Jesus is taking a direct shot at man-made medicine.

The locals at the church in Laodicia had access to best medical care in the known world. The worship of the medicine god Aesculpius took place throughout the region of what is modern day Turkey. The temple of Men Karou was located near Laodicea. This was a famous medical school. Phrygian powder was a medicine for the eyes that was produced locally.

The world offered powder. Documents did not indicate the powder was a cure for blindness.

Jesus was offering a salve to rub in their eyes. And He has a purpose.

…that you may see… This is the Greek word βλέπω/blepó. This is more than physically seeing. It is also about discernment, awareness, and perception.

This is not the first time Christ rubbed something in somebody’s eyes. One man was born blind. This miracle caused all sorts of issues. The miracle was performed by Jesus on the Sabbath. Faith and reality for the Pharisees were called into question. The origin of Jesus was a consideration. Peer pressure and social status were on the line.

John 9:6-7 When He had said this, He spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and applied the clay to his eyes and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam ” (which is translated, Sent). So he went away and washed, and came back seeing.

And Jesus can make adjustments if necessary. Glasses, contacts, and laser surgery are not necessary. Some would argue, Jesus corrected the neurological disorder of visual agnosia. The condition is an impairment in recognition of visually presented objects. Visual agnosia occurs when there is brain damage along the pathways that connect the occipital lobe of the brain with the parietal and temporal lobes. The occipital lobe assembles incoming visual information. The parietal and temporal lobes allow you to understand the meaning of this information.

Mark 8:23-25 And he took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village, and when he had spit on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, “Do you see anything?” And he looked up and said, “I see people, but they look like trees, walking.” Then Jesus laid his hands on his eyes again; and he opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.

Man made powder or some spit and dirt from the Creator??? Jesus is offering physical vision and spiritual insight.
