Mark of the Beast, 666

Revelation 13:16-18 And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.

666

Volumes of books and articles have been written about these three verses.

The context of the mark emerges with the total domination and rule of the antichrist. This takes place during the last 3 ½ years of the seven year tribulation.

The word for “mark” in the original Greek is charagma. Per Strong’s Concordance, it means: a stamp, an imprinted mark; the mark branded upon horses; thing carved, sculpture, graven work; or of idolatrous images.

And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves… Everyone who is alive at this time will be faced with this decision.

no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark…This decision will affect one’s ability to engage in commerce (groceries, gas, water, clothes, etc.). Take the mark, short term gain, eternal loss in the lake of fire.

Per Strong’s Concordance, “wisdom” or sophia in the Greek means: broad and full of intelligence; used of the knowledge of very diverse matters; specifically the varied knowledge of things human and divine, acquired by acuteness and experience, and summed up in maxims and proverbs; the science and learning; always giving the sagest advice; the intelligence evinced in discovering the meaning of some mysterious number or vision; skill in the management of affairs; skill and discretion in imparting Christian truth; the knowledge and practice of the requisites for godly and upright living.

One can tell by the definition of the word. Wisdom is not just knowing information. It is taking the information and applying it skillfully. Take facts and use them. Know and do.

Let him who has understanding…To “have hold” or echo in the Greek. “Understanding” or nous is defined as: the mind, comprising alike the faculties of perceiving and understanding and those of feeling, judging, determining; the intellectual faculty, the understanding; reason in the narrower sense, as the capacity for spiritual truth, the higher powers of the soul, the faculty of perceiving divine things, of recognizing goodness and of hating evil; the power of considering and judging soberly, calmly and impartially; a particular mode of thinking and judging.

calculate the number…The Greek word for calculate is psephizo. It means: to count with pebbles, to compute, calculate, reckon; to give one’s vote by casting a pebble into the urn; to decide by voting.

These verses are an appeal to your intellect. Taking the mark is not an emotional response that is made because one has a flutter in their stomach. It is not a gut hunch. Take control and hold mental faculty. Pay attention closely. Carefully think and discern. Have sober purpose. This is a massive decision. It will be the biggest vote of your life. Your eternal destination rides on this choice.

Revelation 14:9-11 Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed in full strength in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”

Antichrist, The Beast Rules 3 1/2 Years, Part 6

Posted in Antichrist/Beast, Prophecy with tags , , , , , , , on February 22, 2015 by paulthepoke

Revelation 13:5 There was given to him a mouth speaking arrogant words and blasphemies, and authority to act for forty-two months was given to him.

How long will the beast or antichrist rule? Scripture makes it perfectly clear, 42 months…

In the original Greek it states: tessarakonta (40) kai (and) duo (two) men (months). Definitions provided by Strong’s Concordance.

Revelation 11:2 Leave out the court which is outside the temple and do not measure it, for it has been given to the nations; and they will tread underfoot the holy city for forty-two months.

The temple will need to be built and operational for the antichrist/beast to overtake. The gentiles or non-Jews will be in charge for the same time period, 42 months.

This same time period is restated elsewhere in Scripture.

Revelation 12:6 Then the woman fled into the wilderness where she had a place prepared by God, so that there she would be nourished for one thousand two hundred and sixty days. The woman is Israel and she is fleeing from the dragon or Satan. She is protected by God during this time period. God operates on a 30 day lunar calendar. 1,260 days divided by 30 days = 42 months.

Revelation 12:14 But the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, so that she could fly into the wilderness to her place, where she was nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent.

… a time and times and half a time…This is another expression of marking 42 months. The Greek word for time is kairos. It means: due measure of time, hence: a fixed and definite time, the time when things are brought to crisis, the decisive epoch waited for, opportune or seasonable time, the right time, a limited period of time.

This expression is noted in Daniel 7:25. He will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law; and they will be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time.

It is also in Daniel 12:7 I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, as he raised his right hand and his left toward heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever that it would be for a time, times, and half a time; and as soon as they finish shattering the power of the holy people, all these events will be completed.

In the original Hebrew it states: mow`ed (time), mow`edim (times), chetsiy (half or middle). Time or mow`ed is defined: appointed place, appointed time, meeting, sacred season, set feast, appointed season; appointed sign or signal.

… a time and times and half a time… 1 + 2+ ½ = 3 1/2

In the last half of the seven year tribulation, all Hell will officially break out for…1,260 days = 42 months = time, times, and half a time = 3 ½ years… Take your pick.

Antichrist, The Beast/Resurrection???, Part 5

Posted in Antichrist/Beast, Gospel, Prophecy, Resurrection with tags , , , , , , on February 15, 2015 by paulthepoke

Revelation 13:3-4 I saw one of his heads as if it had been slain, and his fatal wound was healed. And the whole earth was amazed and followed after the beast; they worshiped the dragon because he gave his authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who is able to wage war with him?”

Is this a fake death and false resurrection? Or does the antichrist really die and come back to life?

as if it had been slain, “as if” or hos in the original Greek per Strong’s Concordance means: comparative, as, like, even as, etc. The word for “slain” is sphazo. It means: to slay, slaughter, butcher to put to death by violence, or mortally wounded. Sphazo is the same word used to describe the death of Christ on the cross in Revelation 5:12 …Worthy is the Lamb that was slain… It is also the same word used to describe how Cain killed his brother Abel in 1 John 3:12.

… and his fatal wound was healed.

The word for “wound” in the original Greek is plege. It also means:  blow or stripe. The wound is described as “fatal” or thanatos. The meaning of thanatos is as follows: the death of the body; that separation (whether natural or violent) of the soul and the body by which the life on earth is ended; with the implied idea of future misery in hell; the power of death.

The antichrist or beast appears to be dead or literally, physically dies. Then, therapeuo, he is healed, cured, and restored to health.

There are two other verses in Revelation that allude to this “resurrection” event as well. They are reminders of what happened previously in 13:3-4.

Revelation 13:12b …And he makes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose fatal wound was healed.

Revelation 13:14b … to make an image to the beast who had the wound of the sword and has come to life.

Does the antichrist beast demonstrate a resurrection from the dead? I will leave that to the individual reader to decide. The bottom line, the event is convincing (Editorial note: Satan is the father of lies per Jesus, John 8:44). How can you compete with this guy? He came back from the dead… and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who is able to wage war with him?”

All of these happenings leave us with a choice. Which resurrection do you believe, the antichrist or Christ?

What is promised if you follow the antichrist? The beast will offer lots of big talk and promises. He will trash talk God and Jesus. He will lead in tyranny. Eventually, one can join him in the Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:10-15).

But if you believe in the resurrection of the Prince of Peace…You have the power over death.

1 Corinthians 15:54-57 But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP in victory. O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Antichrist, The Beast, Part 4

Revelation 13:1 And the dragon stood on the sand of the seashore. Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns were ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names.

Revelation 17:7 states it will interpret all of this and explain. And the angel said to me, “Why do you wonder? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns. The verse above (13:1) will be clarified so we can understand. Guess work and speculation are not involved.

Revelation 17:9 Here is the mind which has wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits… Heads are mountains.

Revelation 17:18 And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth. The woman is a city.

The city (woman) sits on seven mountains (heads). This is a geographical clue as to the location of the city.

Where in the world are cities that sit on seven mountains? These four major cities are candidates that fit this criteria: Rome, Mecca, Moscow, and Constantinople.

We also know the city has to be a sea port from Revelation 18. That rules out Moscow. This blog is of the position Rome is not the city based on the evidence presented in Daniel 8. See the attached post regarding Daniel 8.

That leaves Mecca, Saudi Arabia and Constantinople, Turkey.

Mecca, Saudi Arabia is home to Islam’s holiest site.

Time will tell…

Diadem is a word that has been transliterated from the original Greek word diadema. Per Strong’s Concordance it means: the kingly ornament for the head, the crown. The ten leaders mentioned in the verse have crowns. The verse confirms their leadership.

Blasphemous names…Blasphemous is also a word that has been transliterated from the Greek word blasphemia. Per Strong’s it means: slander, detraction, speech injurious, to another’s good name; impious and reproachful speech injurious to divine majesty. All ten of these leaders are going to be anti-God of the Bible. It makes sense. They are part of the Satanic leadership structure.

The antichrist is going to lead a ten nation confederation that is hostile to God and Jewish people. The antichrist is going to turn on the city which sits on seven mountains as well.

Antichrist, The Beast, Part 3

Revelation 13:1 And the dragon stood on the sand of the seashore. Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns were ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names.

This verse contains a hint. From where does the antichrist come? What is all of this business regarding horns and heads and diadems. The Bible gives an explanation for each of these terms. But, you have to look for it. The answers are given in the Old Testament and New Testament.

In the Bible, horns are equated with kings and leaders. This was the case in the writings of the Old Testament as well.

Daniel’s dream in Daniel 7 is consistent with the verses in Revelation 13 and 17. The language regarding beasts and horns is consistent. Revelation 13 does provide additional information regarding “heads” which will be discussed in the next post.

With Daniel’s dream, four beasts came up from the sea. Beasts are equated with kings and kingdoms (Daniel 7:17). The issue is the fourth beast. Daniel 7:7-8 After this I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrifying and extremely strong; and it had large iron teeth. It devoured and crushed and trampled down the remainder with its feet; and it was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. While I was contemplating the horns, behold, another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were pulled out by the roots before it; and behold, this horn possessed eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth uttering great boasts.

Scripture interprets Scripture, not humanity. Daniel 7:16 I approached one of those who were standing by and began asking him the exact meaning of all this. So he told me and made known to me the interpretation of these things:

Daniel did not interpret the dream. He had divine help. Daniel 7:19-20 Then I desired to know the exact meaning of the fourth beast, which was different from all the others, exceedingly dreadful, with its teeth of iron and its claws of bronze, and which devoured, crushed and trampled down the remainder with its feet, and the meaning of the ten horns that were on its head and the other horn which came up, and before which three of them fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth uttering great boasts and which was larger in appearance than its associates.

Daniel 7:23-24 Thus he said: ‘The fourth beast will be a fourth kingdom on the earth, which will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth and tread it down and crush it. As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise; and another will arise after them, and he will be different from the previous ones and will subdue three kings.

The beast kingdom will start out as a ten ruler committee. The antichrist, little horn, or the beast of Revelation (take your pick of names) will eliminate three of the rulers and take control. The other seven rulers will hand over their power to the antichrist. That is the sequence of the beast taking control of his empire.

Revelation 17:12 The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings with the beast for one hour. Horns are equated with kings. These kings are going to turn over their authority to the beast or antichrist. Revelation 17:13 These have one purpose, and they give their power and authority to the beast.

Daniel 7, Revelation 13, and Revelation 17 are the same time period, same beast/kingdom, and same beast/antichrist.

Guess work is not indicated. God reveals, but His word has to be read.

Antichrist, The Beast, Part 2

Revelation 13:1 And the dragon stood on the sand of the seashore. Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns were ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names.

Who is the dragon? That is answered in Revelation 12:9. And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Chapter 12 of Revelation discusses how the Satan and his angels have been ejected from Heaven to Earth. He is described as having great wrath or thumos in the Greek. Per Strong’s Concordance, thumos means: passion, angry, heat, anger forthwith boiling up and soon subsiding again; glow, ardour, the wine of passion, inflaming wine (which either drives the drinker mad or kills him with its strength). This anger is modified as great or megas (used of intensity and its degrees: with great effort, of the affections and emotions of the mind, of natural events powerfully affecting the senses: violent, mighty, strong) in the Greek. To say Satan is not happy is an understatement. The focus of his angst will be Israel.

dragon

Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea… From where does the beast or antichrist emerge? Is he Jewish or gentile? This is a topic of great debate. There are reasonable presentations suggesting he is Jewish. Our eternal salvation is not dependent on this issue. Bible believing people can respectfully disagree.

This blog’s position: The antichrist is a gentile.

The antichrist is the last leader of the times of the Gentiles. In today’s world (January 2015), would the United Nations allow a Jewish man to be Secretary General? Would the Muslim world be agreeable to this idea? Stranger things have happened. Jerusalem, Israel is going to be pummeled prior to the return of Christ. Of those Jews who are not killed, the antichrist will try to disperse the Jews again from Israel. He wants to purge Israel of  their people. Luke 21:24 …and they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

Historically, Gentiles have lead invasions of Israel. Gentiles persecute the Jews. Look at the leaders who have done this in the past: Nebuchadnezzar (Babylon), Tiglath-Pileser (Assyria), Antiochus Epiphanes (Greek King, Seleucid Empire), also Nero and the Romans. Would a Jewish leader of a foreign army launch an invasion of Israel?

In the Bible, the sea is equated with gentile nations. There are examples in the Old Testament and New Testament.

Isaiah 17:12 Alas, the uproar of many peoples who roar like the roaring of the seas, and the rumbling of nations who rush on like the rumbling of mighty waters!

Ezekiel 26:3 therefore thus says the Lord GOD, ‘Behold, I am against you, O Tyre (Lebanon), and I will bring up many nations against you, as the sea brings up its waves…

Luke 21:25 There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves.

A primary key to understanding and interpreting Revelation 13:1 is given later in Revelation 17. In regards to the beast coming out of the seaRevelation 17:15 And he said to me, “The waters which you saw where the harlot sits, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.

Eventually, a Jewish man will descend from Heaven. And He will rule. Acts 1:11 They (angels) also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”

Daniel 8:23-25 “In the latter period of their rule, when the transgressors have run their course, a king will arise, insolent and skilled in intrigue. His power will be mighty, but not by his own power, and he will destroy to an extraordinary degree and prosper and perform his will; he will destroy mighty men and the holy people. And through his shrewdness he will cause deceit to succeed by his influence…

Little Horn of Daniel 8

This king will be insolent and skilled in intrigue. Other adjectives in the original Hebrew could describe him as strong, mighty, and fierce. He will understand and be able to teach and communicate riddles, difficult questions, parables, enigmatic and perplexing sayings or questions. (Hebrew definitions provided by Strong’s Concordance)

His power will be mighty, but not by his own power… His strength and power will be exceedingly great. It will be given to him. Revelation 13:2b, 4 tells us from where the man draws his power. And the dragon gave him his power and his throne and great authority. They worshiped the dragon because he gave his authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who is able to wage war with him?”

…and he will destroy to an extraordinary degree and prosper and perform his willThe Hebrew grammar states he is the source and cause of destruction. He will destroy physical property to the point of ruination. He corrupts morally and is perverted. The destruction would appear to be beyond one’s power and difficult to do. The level of destruction will be extraordinary and difficult to comprehend. In a bizarre twist, his destruction will result in prosperity. In our vernacular, he will do whatever the hell he wants.

…he will destroy mighty men and the holy people… The Hebrew word for mighty is `atsuwm. Per Strong’s, it means: mighty, vast, numerous, countless, and strong (in number). Lots of people are going to perish at the antichrist’s hands. God’s people will also suffer at his hands. Revelation 13:7 It was also given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them…

And through his shrewdness he will cause deceit to succeed by his influence…He will demonstrate shrewdness or sekel in the original Hebrew. Sekel can be defined as: cunning or crafty in a bad sense. The antichrist is going to be one slick-talking, smooth liar. And he is going to be able to sell.
