Why I Changed My Mind About Evil! (I Was WRONG)… JP Sears

Posted in #PaulthePoke, Culture, Trend Update with tags , , , , , , , , on August 18, 2022 by paulthepoke

For those of you who are not familiar, this is JP Sears.

JP Sears is a comedian who tours the country extensively doing stand-up comedy and publishing weekly online videos. His videos have been viewed more than 500 million times. In addition to inspiring laughter in a weird world, JP’s work takes an unapologetic stand for freedom, free speech, and encouraging people to free themselves from fear.

CAUTION! JP will use very adult language and he is not afraid to engage in controversial topics. Some of you will likely be offended. Warning completed…

JP will openly admit. He is not a Biblical scholar.

But JP does understand fundamental truth about a few Bible verses and concepts.

Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

2 Corinthians 11:14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

Happy Thanksgiving!!! 2021

Posted in #PaulthePoke with tags , , , , , , on November 24, 2021 by paulthepoke

Millions of Americans will be getting together for a holiday of Thanksgiving. There will be piles of turkey, dinner rolls, stuffing and dressing, casseroles, and gravy. Hot brown and plenty of it!!! Don’t forget the pies!!! This will be followed by a tryptophan induced nap… zzz zzz zzz… instead of watching the Bears and Lions oh my…

Let’s not kid ourselves. We have all heard the family holiday stories. The time we spent with cousin Eddie (little National Lampoon’s Vacation reference). Remember when so and so did that… Don’t forget the crazy aunt. Heaven forbid, the drama and exhaustion of “The Family Argument“!

Proverbs 17:1 Better is a dry morsel with quiet than a house full of feasting with strife.

God’s word has an interesting observation in the verse above. For starters the Hebrew word for “better” is “towb“. The word can also be translated as good or beautiful. This is the same word God used in the beginning after each day of creation, “towb” or “good. “And God saw that it was good.”

…a dry morsel… Another translation could be “a parched and ruined fragment“.

…with strife. This is the Hebrew word “rib” (pronounced reeb). It is also translated as dispute or controversy. Every thing is a contest.

It is a beautiful thing to eat a dry, expired cracker in quiet security. Some personalities can ruin a great spread of a meal and a gathering.

Proverbs 15:17 Better is a portion of vegetables where there is love, than a fattened ox served with hatred.

~

Leviticus 7:12 If he offers it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer with the thanksgiving sacrifice unleavened loaves mixed with oil, unleavened wafers smeared with oil, and loaves of fine flour well mixed with oil.

This is the first time the word “thanksgiving” is used in the Bible. “Thanksgiving” is mentioned before “thanks”. Thanksgiving is the Hebrew word todah. The issue is an attitude of the heart. Be thankful for what you have and share it with others. Your grateful attitude may change another’s heart.

Ultimately, Thanksgiving is not about the food. The holiday is about relationships. Have your heart in a good place. Be thankful for your family and friends!

Psalm 133:1 Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!

Revelation 7:12 “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

Be careful of who you allow into your life. Those you surround yourself with, are who you most become like. Choose wisely so that you surround yourself with those that lift you up & are good for you. Good friends are priceless.

Surround yourself with who & what are good for you. Be the type of person that others what to be around because they know you are good for them. Good attracts good.

Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Proverbs 13:20 Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools suffers harm.

Have a wise and sharpening week my friends!!!

Happy Birthday America!!! It is our 245th Independence Day. Today we find ourselves at a crossroads. We are divided politically, socially, and morally. What direction is this country going to take?

I am going to leave it to the talking heads and pundits to discuss politically and socially.

What does God’s word say about freedom? I promise you it is not what you see and hear in today’s media.

At the core of American, western culture is a “me first” attitude. People are out to get theirs and often at the expense of others. The media glorifies and worships these champions of success.

As you read these verses, think about the cultural stance on the following issues.

~

Sexual immorality: The culture says, “If it feels good, do it!”… among many other things.

1 Corinthians 6:12-13 “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food” and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

~

Neighbors: Do we even know our neighbors any more? God’s word is calling us to put the needs of others above our needs.

1 Corinthians 10:23-24 “All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.

~

Do Good and Respect Authority

1 Peter 2:16-17 Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.

Unfortunately, those who are acting out in violence against authority and others garner a significant portion of attention in the news. Yes, they are free to act this way. But this does not mean they are free from the consequences of their actions. Who are they serving? Are they honorable? Their actions are hardly loving.

There will be plenty of who disagree with what God has to say. Take it up with Him. He will listen. He is a big boy, He can handle it.

God’s word calls for a society where we look after others as a priority instead of ourselves. Respect, serve, love others… even the one’s we disagree with.

Do not underestimate the power of good…

1 Peter 2:15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.

Memorial Day, 2021… Paul Beverly

Posted in #PaulthePoke, Paul Beverly with tags , , , , , , on May 31, 2021 by paulthepoke

Please take the time to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Please take the time to give gratitude to our active duty military personnel who protect our freedom. Enjoy time with your family and friends during this Memorial Day Holiday weekend.

The older I get the more I realize that family is everything. I regret time not spent with them. Cousins were my first best friends & are the ones that will always have my back. There’s a special bond & love in family that honestly can’t be duplicated. Family is love!

Tomorrow is never guaranteed, so don’t live like it is. Live each day as if it’s your last. Choose to spend your time wisely, doing what’s good & loving others. God gave us this life for a purpose, live with that purpose.

1 Corinthians 13:7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Ephesians 5:16 Make the best use of time, because the days are evil.

James 4:14 Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time & then vanishes.

~

Let us not forget the freedom we have in Jesus. He sacrificed Himself for all of humanity.

Galatians 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree.”

Have a purpose filled Memorial Day Weekend my friends!!!

Eliminate the Negative… Paul Beverly

Posted in #PaulthePoke, Paul Beverly with tags , , , on December 1, 2020 by paulthepoke

Do not focus on the negative in your life. Don’t let your struggles keep you in bondage. Make your struggles turn you into a better & stronger person. Focus on all the good you have, on all the good that’s to come. Keep your thoughts free from negative thinking.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Have a positive week my friends!!!

Support One Another… Paul Beverly

Jealousy, envy, & selfishness are of the same family that poison your relationships & steal your joy. Don’t allow these to consume you. Don’t allow those that show these to control your life. Always be happy for others & keep your circle full of those that are genuinely happy for you. This life isn’t a competition, want good for everyone.

James 3:16 For where jealousy & selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder & every vile practice.

Proverbs 11:23 The desire of the righteous is only good, but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.

Have a selfless week my friends!!!

Is There Evil??? -Phil Kulis

Posted in Gospel, Phil Kulis with tags , , , , , , , , , on August 22, 2018 by paulthepoke

A question often posed, or a variant thereof goes like this… “If there’s a God, then why does He allow evil?”

My response is, “Is evil real? Or is it just a figment of your imagination?”

If it’s not real, then what is your concern?

But if it is real, should it be punished?

Have you yourself committed evil? Do you think any evil you’ve done is not as bad as someone else’s evil and therefore you’re good by comparison?

Because evil is real and evil should be punished, that means there is a good that is contrast to evil. Therefore, we have free will to choose good or evil.

And since there is a good to contrast evil proving that it should be punished, then it’s because of a violation of the Moral Law.

The Moral Law comes from the objective Moral Law Giver. Man has proven his morality is subjective relative to his situation or perception of someone else’s evil, and probability of getting caught. This is more proof of evil.

So evil is real.
Evil should be punished.
All have committed evil.
Evil is in contrast to good.
Good is defined by the Moral Law.
The Moral Law is given by an Objective Giver.

The last realization is our accountability to the Objective Moral Law Giver.

As determined earlier evil must be punished.
The penalty is Death.

Plato said, “The Deity may be able to forgive sin. But I do not see how.”

Plato understood that an Objective Moral Law Giver must be Justice. And Justice must be impersonal. So, the Moral Law Giver is obligated to punish sin.

water glass

Imagine for a moment sitting before you is a glass filled half way with water. While you’re watching, I place one drop of lethal poison in the glass. There is no antidote. Would you drink it? No, if you’re in your right mind you wouldn’t. What if I filled the glass with more water all the way to full? Now would you drink it? No, you wouldn’t, because the lethal dose of poison is still in the glass.

Your life is the glass of water. And the lethal poison is the evil you’ve done in your life. The additional water is the remainder of your life. Even without more evil, you can’t change the evil of the past. You are doomed.

But the Objective Moral Law Giver provided a way for you. He sent His Son who drank your glass of water and left His glass of water without the poison for you to drink. There’s nothing you can do about it. It’s done.

All that remains is for you to drink it and contemplate what that means to you.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, what whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

And the proof of that eternal life, the power over death, is the Resurrection of His Son.

Drink up.

Evil vs. God… Featuring Phil Kulis

Posted in Phil Kulis with tags , , , , , , , on May 31, 2018 by paulthepoke

Genesis 3:4-5 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

philkulis-picEvil is a necessary contrast to God.
How else would we know Good?

But how does God get rid of Evil when those who know the difference choose Him?

He gave Satan power, free will and eternal life. Can He just renege on what He gave?

Mankind may be a forum to reveal Himself, then permanently destroy Evil and Death.

It seems to me that if Evil took away God’s power, free will and life by throwing Him in prison, judging Him, nailing Him to a cross and killing Him, then God is justified in doing the same in return.

Isaiah 25:8 He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people He will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken.

1 Corinthians 15:54-57 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Revelation 21:4-6 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” And He who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also He said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.
