There Shall Be Seven Weeks: Feasts (Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement)

Daniel 9:25b …there shall be seven weeks…

The context of this series of posts is the course of the Jewish people for the initial 49 years of the 483 year period communicated from the angel Gabriel to the prophet Daniel. The city of Jerusalem has been rebuilt post exile. These events are covered in Nehemiah 8-13. Israel is returning to God’s Law. The focus is on God’s appointed holidays. This week, the Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur is the topic.

Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement is celebrated on Tishri 10th. It is the last day of the 40 day period of Teshuvah.

This holiday is viewed at the holiest day of Judaism. The day is a Sabbath day of rest. Yom Kippur is the only day a fast is required. The day begins at sun down. On the Day of Atonement, the high priest was kept awake during the dark of the night. The high priest was dressed in a white robe. Sacrifices of a bull, ram, and a goat occur. The priest makes a sacrifice for himself and for the nation of Israel. Yom Kippur is the day the high priest came into the inner sanctuary of the temple to make sacrifices on behalf of the nation of Israel. He is the only person allowed into the inner sanctuary. This day is the only day the high priest is allowed in the inner sanctuary. He entered the highest holy place with incense and coals. The incense was burned. Next, the recovered blood was sprinkled on the mercy seat, the top of the Ark of the Covenant. This is the busiest day of the year for the high priest.

See Leviticus 16 for specific details. New Manners and Customs of Bible Times

In the 21st century, we have a high priest.

Hebrews 6:20 …where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

~

Today, animal sacrifices are no longer necessary, even when the Jewish Temple is rebuilt.

Hebrews 9:11-14 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Hebrews 13:11-12 For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy place by the high priest as an offering for sin, are burned outside the camp. Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate.

~

Some believe this is the day at the end of the 7 year tribulation that Christ will physically return to Earth and establish His millennial kingdom.

Hebrews 9:28 …so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.

Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement: 5779/2018

Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement is celebrated on Tishri 10th. The holiday officially will be the 10th day after Yom Teruah/Feast of Trumpets. The new moon was declared and observed on Tishri 1 (Hebrew calendar) after sunset on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 (Gregorian calendar).

yom kippur

Please note there are discrepancies in marking time. Secular calendars state these Hebrew appointments are two days earlier than the identification of the new moon and subsequent holidays. Secular calendars are mathematical calculations. God says to observe for a new moon as a starting point. There is at least a two or three day difference depending on the observation of the new moon by two witnesses. There is man’s way and there is God’s way. They are not the same.

There is the difference of calendars. There is a Hebrew calendar and there is the western Gregorian calendar.

These dates do not take Metonic cycles into account. Some years have 13 months in a Hebrew calendar. In a 19 year cycle, 7 years have 13 months to bring the calendar back into accuracy and balance.

Some think the seventh month of Tishri (Hebrew calendar) does not start until October (Gregorian calendar) in 2018 because the event does not take place after the Fall Equinox.

Anybody confused yet???

This is why date setters and outlandish predictions for whatever the event may be are totally defeated across time. Humanity can not agree on how to mark time. Humanity can not accurately mark time when instructed by God Himself.

ANY human being on earth who claims to know the exact date of whatever is simply full of hot air and at direct odds with Jesus Christ Himself.

Matthew 24:36 But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. -Jesus

The author’s point is this. Take these dates with a grain of salt. People are making a good faith effort to be accurate. But there is no consensus opinion regarding exact accuracy, yet everyone claims to be right. “Listen to me because I know.” And those who disagree are in error… Really???

So… in 2018, Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement is effectively Thursday, September 20 on our Gregorian calendar.

The Day of Atonement is viewed as the holiest day of Judaism. The day is a Sabbath of rest. Yom Kippur is the only appointment a fast is required. The appointment begins at sun down. It is the last day of the 40 day period of Teshuvah. See Leviticus 16 for details of Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement.

The 10 days between Rosh Hashanah/Feast of Trumpets and Yom Kippur are known as the “Days of Awe”. These are to be 10 days of repentance. The idea is to have serious introspection of one’s life and conduct relative to God’s commandments. Review the sins of the past year and seek to repent. If one has sinned against another, find the person and make amends.

Tradition (not found in the Bible) says God looks in the “books” to determine who lives for the next year. Who will have a good life? Who will have a bad life? These 10 days allow for a chance to change.

Ultimately, no one person is going to pay or atone for their sins to a holy and just God. That’s where Jesus Christ enters the picture. He is the high priest of Leviticus 16.

ark (2)

Trend Update: Quakes in Various Places, New Zealand, November 2016

Luke 21:11 …and there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven. –Jesus

There are parallel passages regarding earthquakes by Jesus in Matthew 24:7 and Mark 13:8. The context is the Olivet Discourse. Jesus is answering questions from the disciples regarding the signs of His coming and the End of the Age (Matthew 24:3).

New Zealand, November 13, 2016: A 7.8 magnitude earthquake has struck. The epicenter is located approximately 55-60 miles northeast of Christchurch.

People living in low lying areas along the shore line are headed for higher ground. Buildings and houses have collapsed. Electricity and phone lines have been impacted.

Roads have been blocked by landslides. Roads are reported to be buckled.

Up to 10-15 feet tsunami waves are being reported. Waves are estimated to continue and last hours. People are obviously being warned to stay away from the beach.

The article link below from www.mirror.co.uk is an excellent source of information. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/powerful-earthquake-hits-christchurch-new-9251440

http://news.trust.org/item/20161113113702-re5f9

Following the 7.8 tremblor, 16+ aftershocks have been reported ranging from 4.9 to 6.9 in magnitude.

Even more disturbing is a series of quakes located north of New Zealand near Fiji. There have been 6 quakes in the last few days of a magnitude of 4.5 to 5.6. They have occurred approximately 300 – 350 miles below the surface of the planet. The pressure release has to go somewhere…

Isaiah 24:19 The earth is utterly broken, the earth is split apart, the earth is violently shaken.

Let me be clear. This is not about religion. It has nothing to do with some flutter in your belly or the hair on the back of your neck standing up. God does not care how many times one genuflects in church, raises their hands, closes their eyes, beats oneself up, or sacrifice chickens or whatever! We cannot appease or atone with our actions. God hates religion!

This is about getting your heart, mind, and soul right with the Creator. This book, the Bible, says His Son, Jesus Christ, is physically coming back to get His people the church, the rapture. And He will return to establish His kingdom on earth.

Hebrews 9:28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Your choice…

Jesus Christ, the Mercy Seat

Posted in Gospel, Prophecy with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 20, 2016 by paulthepoke

Exodus 25:17 You shall make a mercy seat of pure gold, two and a half cubits long and one and a half cubits wide.

ark (2)

The mercy seat is the cover or lid for the Ark of the Covenant.

The Hebrew word for “mercy seat” is kapporeth. Per Strong’s Concordance it means: mercy seat, place of atonement; the golden plate of propitiation on which the High Priest sprinkled the seat 7 times on the Day of Atonement symbolically reconciling Jehovah and His chosen people; on the lid were two golden cherubim facing each other whose outstretched wings came together.

The Hebrew word kapporeth comes from kopher (means propitiatory or substitution).

The mercy seat or the lid of the Ark is a substitution for the covering of sin.

Leviticus 16:15b-16 and bring its blood inside the veil and do with its blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the mercy seat and in front of the mercy seat. He shall make atonement for the holy place, because of the impurities of the sons of Israel and because of their transgressions in regard to all their sins; and thus he shall do for the tent of meeting which abides with them in the midst of their impurities.

For God, the shedding of innocent blood on the mercy seat is a satisfactory substitution for sin. Only the High Priest can make the sacrifice in the presence of God.

Jesus is our High Priest. Hebrews 4:14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

Christ’s blood is the fulfillment of the substitution. His shed blood satisfies the just nature of God. This is the only appeasement. There has to be a payment for all sin. 1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.

Jesus Christ is the mercy seat. This gift is received only by faith. Nothing you can do.

Romans 3:25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.

Leviticus 16:17 When he goes in to make atonement in the holy place, no one shall be in the tent of meeting until he comes out, that he may make atonement for himself and for his household and for all the assembly of Israel.

These directions were given to Moses approximately 1,500 years before Christ. They were carried out annually by the earthly high priest of Israel as directed in an earthly tabernacle. Jesus alone is the One who makes atonement in the heavenly Tabernacle before God.

Hebrews 9:11-12 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

John 20:11-12 But Mary (Magdelene) was standing outside the tomb weeping; and so, as she wept, she stooped and looked into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been lying.

Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement

Rapture Part 3, Elijah

Posted in Prophecy, Rapture with tags , , , , , , , , , on June 29, 2014 by paulthepoke

2 Kings 2:11 As they were going along and talking, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire and horses of fire which separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind to heaven.

Elisha was not the only witness to this event. 2 Kings 2:7 Now fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood opposite them at a distance, while the two of them stood by the Jordan. The text says there were at least 51 others at the event site.

Elijah and Elisha knew God was coming to get Elijah. This is documented and noted frequently in 2 Kings 2:1-11. Members of the prophetic guild or school in Bethel (2 Kings 2:3) and Jericho (2 Kings 2:5) were aware that God was coming to take Elijah. Hundreds of people knew Elijah was going to be taken into Heaven.

Things are no different today in 2014. There has been notification for over 1,900 years. People are aware there is a time coming when those who believe in Christ will be taken into the clouds to meet the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 4:17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

So whatever became of Enoch and Elijah? God took them both into Heaven. They did not die. Scripture says we all die once. Hebrews 9:27 And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment…

Two witnesses show up on the scene in Revelation 11:3 “And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for twelve hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.” Scholars debate the identity of these two witnesses. Elijah is promised to come again before the tribulation. Malachi 4:5 Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD. Many agree one of these witnesses is Elijah. Others debate the identity of the second as either Enoch or Moses. Enoch was taken alive by God in Genesis 5:24. Moses died and was personally buried by God in Deuteronomy 34:6. Draw your own conclusions as to who the second witness is. These two witnesses die at the hand of the beast in Revelation 11:7. Three and a half days later, the witnesses are resurrected back to life for people to see. Then, they are called from and ascend into Heaven (Revelation 11:11-12).

Elijah’s resume: Rapture, return, death, resurrection, and ascension…That is quite an experience through time.
