Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement: 5779/2018

Posted in Fall Feasts, Gospel, Prophecy, Teshuvah/Repent, Trend Update with tags , , , , , , , , , , on September 16, 2018 by paulthepoke

Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement is celebrated on Tishri 10th. The holiday officially will be the 10th day after Yom Teruah/Feast of Trumpets. The new moon was declared and observed on Tishri 1 (Hebrew calendar) after sunset on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 (Gregorian calendar).

yom kippur

Please note there are discrepancies in marking time. Secular calendars state these Hebrew appointments are two days earlier than the identification of the new moon and subsequent holidays. Secular calendars are mathematical calculations. God says to observe for a new moon as a starting point. There is at least a two or three day difference depending on the observation of the new moon by two witnesses. There is man’s way and there is God’s way. They are not the same.

There is the difference of calendars. There is a Hebrew calendar and there is the western Gregorian calendar.

These dates do not take Metonic cycles into account. Some years have 13 months in a Hebrew calendar. In a 19 year cycle, 7 years have 13 months to bring the calendar back into accuracy and balance.

Some think the seventh month of Tishri (Hebrew calendar) does not start until October (Gregorian calendar) in 2018 because the event does not take place after the Fall Equinox.

Anybody confused yet???

This is why date setters and outlandish predictions for whatever the event may be are totally defeated across time. Humanity can not agree on how to mark time. Humanity can not accurately mark time when instructed by God Himself.

ANY human being on earth who claims to know the exact date of whatever is simply full of hot air and at direct odds with Jesus Christ Himself.

Matthew 24:36 But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. -Jesus

The author’s point is this. Take these dates with a grain of salt. People are making a good faith effort to be accurate. But there is no consensus opinion regarding exact accuracy, yet everyone claims to be right. “Listen to me because I know.” And those who disagree are in error… Really???

So… in 2018, Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement is effectively Thursday, September 20 on our Gregorian calendar.

The Day of Atonement is viewed as the holiest day of Judaism. The day is a Sabbath of rest. Yom Kippur is the only appointment a fast is required. The appointment begins at sun down. It is the last day of the 40 day period of Teshuvah. See Leviticus 16 for details of Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement.

The 10 days between Rosh Hashanah/Feast of Trumpets and Yom Kippur are known as the “Days of Awe”. These are to be 10 days of repentance. The idea is to have serious introspection of one’s life and conduct relative to God’s commandments. Review the sins of the past year and seek to repent. If one has sinned against another, find the person and make amends.

Tradition (not found in the Bible) says God looks in the “books” to determine who lives for the next year. Who will have a good life? Who will have a bad life? These 10 days allow for a chance to change.

Ultimately, no one person is going to pay or atone for their sins to a holy and just God. That’s where Jesus Christ enters the picture. He is the high priest of Leviticus 16.

ark (2)

Hebrews 9:11-14 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Trend Update: God’s Fall Appointments, 5779/2018

Posted in Fall Feasts, Prophecy, Trend Update with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 18, 2018 by paulthepoke

God’s fall appointments are the Feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, and the Feast of Tabernacles. Below is a brief 10 minute video that provides a framework for God’s fall appointed holidays. http://www.theseasonofreturn.com

Numbers 29:1 ‘Now in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall also have a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work. It will be to you a day for blowing trumpets.

See also Leviticus 23:23-25.

The first fall holiday has many names. It is called the Feast of Trumpets by Christians. It is recognized as the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. Some refer to it as the “Hidden Day” or the “Wedding of the Messiah”. In Judaism, it is called Yom Teruah which means the “Day of Blowing”.

It is the beginning of the civil new year. This is the Hebrew month of Tishri. It is the Hebrew year 5779.

The date for Yom Teruah is near Sunday, September 9 or Monday, September 10, 2018 (traditional Gregorian calendar). This date is confirmed pending the sighting of the new moon. The new year begins when the new moon is confirmed by two witnesses. The confirmation of the new moon will ultimately determine the dates of the subsequent fall appointments.

The second fall holiday is the Day of Atonement. See Leviticus 16. Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement is celebrated on Tishri 10th. It is the last day of the 40 day period of Teshuvah or repent in the Hebrew. This holiday is viewed at the holiest day of Judaism. The day is a Sabbath day of rest. Yom Kippur is the only day a fast is required. The day begins at sun down. This is the busiest day of the year for the high priest with multiple animal sacrifices. The beginning for the Day of Atonement in 2018 is Tuesday, September 18 or Wednesday, September 19 at sun down. This date is ultimately determined by the confirmation of the new moon.

https://paulthepoke.com/2014/09/21/yom-kippurday-of-atonement/

Leviticus 23:33-36 Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘On the fifteenth of this seventh month is the Feast of Booths for seven days to the LORD. On the first day is a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work of any kind. For seven days you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD. On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation and present an offering by fire to the LORD; it is an assembly. You shall do no laborious work.’”

The third and last fall holiday on God’s calendar is Tabernacles. It is also called Sukkot, the Feast of Booths, the Festival of Tents, or the Feast of the Harvest because it was after the harvest in the fall. Simply put, it was also called “the feast” or “the festival”. This festival is a week-long festival from Tishri 15 to 21 on a Hebrew calendar. On our western Gregorian calendar, in 2018, the Feast of Tabernacles will be observed from Sunday, September 23 or Monday, September 24,  again pending the new moon confirmed at the beginning of the Hebrew month of Tishri.

There are seven God appointed holidays communicated through the Old Testament Law. The first four were fulfilled to the day by Jesus Himself with His death, burial, resurrection, and the giving of the Holy Spirit. If the first four spring holidays were fulfilled on the God appointed holiday, why would the fall holidays be any different?

Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement: 5778/2017

Leviticus 16: Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement

Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement is celebrated on Tishri 10th. It is the last day of the 40 day period of Teshuvah. The holiday officially will be 10 days after Yom Teruah/Feast of Trumpets is declared at the sighting of the new moon. The new moon was declared on Thursday, September 21 outside of Jerusalem. In 2017, Yom Kippur is effectively Sunday, October 1 on our Gregorian calendar.

The Day of Atonement is viewed as the holiest day of Judaism. The day is a Sabbath day of rest. Yom Kippur is the only day a fast is required. The appointment begins at sun down.

The start of Teshuvah was announced in 2017 with a solar eclipse that crossed the United States from the northwest to the southeast. If one follows the understanding of the signs and symbols, the eclipse was a warning. Repent.

Teshuvah is the Hebrew word for repent. Change your heart and return to God. Live a Godly life. People are called to turn away from their sin and change course. It is a time of inward reflection and sincere self-assessment.  There are 40 days to make this consideration. The season implies we have turned away from God. And we need to return to God.

Psalm 53:2-3 God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.

Romans 3:11 There is no one who understands; no one who seeks God.

The ultimate goal is to be face to face in relationship with God at Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement. Sins are forgiven.

1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

Let’s review what has happened on planet earth since the beginning of Teshuvah and the solar eclipse. All of this is in the last month. I apologize in advance. This is not a complete list…I am sure I missed some items.

The question begs. Was this, is this a warning? Did the people repent during the 40 day period of Teshuvah? If not, judgment is coming. Do we really want to see judgment if this was a warning???

Trend Update: God’s Fall Appointments, 2017

Day of Atonement/Yom Kippur: Put on Your Fine Linen

Posted in Prophecy with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 2, 2016 by paulthepoke

Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement is the busiest day of the year for the high priest.

Leviticus 16:4 He shall put on the holy linen coat and shall have the linen undergarment on his body, and he shall tie the linen sash around his waist, and wear the linen turban; these are the holy garments. He shall bathe his body in water and then put them on.

These are the instructions for the high priest before enters the Holy Place in the Temple.

Exodus 28 gives instructions for the priestly garments. The clothing for the priest is to be made of linen. Exodus 28:5 They shall take the gold and the blue and the purple and the scarlet material and the fine linen. The concept is stated seven more times in Exodus 28. Priestly garments are of linen (Exodus 28:6, 8, 15, 39, 39, 42).

Currently, there is a high priest in the Heavenly Tabernacle. He is of the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 6:20 …where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

Before going to Heaven to be at the right hand of the Father, Christ the high priest was buried in linen. Matthew 27:59 And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth(see also Mark 15:46, Luke 23:53). The body referenced is Jesus after His death.

He shall bathe his body in water and then put them on. The body of the high priest shall be ceremonially clean before entering the Holy of Holies. The idea is the use of water to wash the sin off the body.

John 20:17 Jesus says to her, “Do not touch Me, for not yet have I ascended to the Father. Now go to My brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.'”

After His death but before His ascension, Christ was clean and free of sin. He had become a sin offering at the cross. Jesus had overcome death or sin with His resurrection. Christ is talking to Mary Magdalene. Because of her history, we know she was a sinful woman. Jesus’ resurrected body could not come in contact with sin before going to the Heavenly Tabernacle. Jesus entered Heaven free of sin in His glorified body. Christ presented Himself clean and pure before God the Father in the Heavenly Holy Place.

God’s Fall Appointed Holidays: What Month Is It?

Posted in Fall Feasts, Prophecy with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 25, 2016 by paulthepoke

There are all kinds of calendars. Astronomy uses a Julian calendar. Western society uses a Gregorian calendar. China has their calendar. Lots of people, lots of calendars. Today, Israel operates on two calendars. One is religious and one is civil. Confusion reigns. When is the official new year?

If we are to understand God, we need to get on His schedule and how He defines time. God has one calendar. It was in the spring in Egypt. And God had a conversation with Moses and Aaron. Exodus 12:2 “This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you…” God identified the new moon and the beginning. From this point, God went on to explain His Spring Appointments or holidays.

God’s Fall Appointments or holidays start in the seventh month on God’s calendar. The Fall Appointments celebrate the end of the harvest year. Specifically, the Feast of Tabernacles is a thanksgiving for the harvest of grapes (Exodus 23:16).

Leviticus 23:23 Again the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘In the seventh month on the first of the month…

Numbers 29:1 ‘Now in the seventh month, on the first day of the month…

Leviticus 25:9 You shall then sound a ram’s horn abroad on the tenth day of the seventh month; on the day of atonement…

Leviticus 16:29…in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month…

Leviticus 23:33-34 Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘On the fifteenth of this seventh month is the Feast of Booths for seven days to the LORD.

Numbers 29:12 Then on the fifteenth day of the seventh month you shall have a holy convocation…

Yom Teruah or the Feast of Trumpets is recognized as the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. It is the beginning of the civil new year. Some Jewish thought has this day as the creation of the world or the creation of Adam and Eve.

God has one calendar and it starts in the spring. The Fall Appointments start in the seventh month of the year as defined by God.

The God appointed fall appointments are the Feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, and the Feast of Tabernacles. Below is a brief 10 minute video that provides a framework for God’s fall appointed holidays.

Numbers 29:1 ‘Now in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall also have a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work. It will be to you a day for blowing trumpets.

It is the beginning of the civil new year. The date for the Yom Teruah is near October 2-3, 2016 (traditional Hebrew calendar) depending on the sighting of the new moon. The new year begins when the new moon is confirmed by two witnesses.

The second fall holiday is the Day of Atonement. See Leviticus 16. Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement is celebrated on Tishri 10th. It is the last day of the 40 day period of Teshuvah.
