Sanhedrin to Prepare Holy Oil for Messiah

Exodus 30:22-25 The LORD said to Moses, “Take the finest spices: of liquid myrrh 500 shekels, and of sweet-smelling cinnamon half as much, that is, 250, and 250 of aromatic cane, and 500 of cassia, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and a hin of olive oil. And you shall make of these a sacred anointing oil blended as by the perfumer; it shall be a holy anointing oil.

The Sanhedrin is getting ready for the arrival of the Messiah. As part of the preparations, anointing oil is being made.

https://www.israel365news.com/201272/sanhedrin-begins-to-prepare-oil-to-anoint-king-messiah-kohen-gadol/

The announcement was made on the Temple Mount in a sermon by the Spokesman of the Sanhedrin, Rabbi Hillel Weiss.

“The Temple and the Temple service benefit all the nations. For that reason, we made the announcement on the 27th of Cheshvan, the day that Noah exited the ark and made a sacrifice to God. At that time, God made a covenant with the entire world, promising never to bring another such catastrophic flood but also requiring that mankind (nations) perform the Seven Noahide Laws.”

“Christianity is especially susceptible to the impurity that is flourishing under the idolatry of liberalism. To their credit, they have a deep connection with chesed (loving kindness). Liberalism grew out of this. But chesed can be taken too far. Christianity must engage in justice which is one of the Noahide commandments. They must judge that some things are impure and unacceptable.”

In the passages from Exodus 23 describing the oil, the oil is described as holy six times. The Hebrew word for “holy” is qodesh. It means apart or sacred, separate. This is the same word used to describe the Spirit of God in the Old Testament. That is the Holy Spirit.

The Sanhedrin is following the directions of Moses as given by the LORD. Here is the composition of the anointing oil as understood by the modern day Sanhedrin.

1 kg = 2.2 pounds

  • Pure myrrh, 500 shekels weight (about 6 kg)
  • Sweet cinnamon, 250 shekels weight (about 3 kg)
  • “fragrant cane” (sometimes translated as calamus) 250 shekels (about 3 kg)
  • Cassia, 500 shekels (about 6 kg)
  • Specially prepared olive oil, one hin (about 6 liters, or 5.35 kg or about 1.5 gallons)

~

Exodus 30:33 Whoever compounds any like it or whoever puts any of it on an outsider shall be cut off from his people.

This oil is not to be reproduced by anybody for personal use. The would be perpetrator would pay a severe price. They would be “cut off” or karath in the Hebrew. This is the same verb used to describe Jesus the Messiah in Daniel 9:26. Jesus fulfilled this prophecy on the cross when He was “cut off”.

Daniel 9:26a Then after the sixty-two weeks, the Messiah (Anointed One, Mashiach) will be cut off (karath) and have nothing…

~

Additionally, the Sanhedrin has prepared ritually pure olive oil for the Menorah.

“We are now entering the time when the preparations for the Temple are almost complete. Now is the time for people to act, to show whether they will be part of the Temple or stand against the reappearance of God’s house in Jerusalem.” Rabbi Weiss, Sanhedrin Spokesman

There Shall Be Seven Weeks: The Sabbath

Posted in #PaulthePoke, Angels with tags , , , , , , , , on February 28, 2021 by paulthepoke

Daniel 9:25b …there shall be seven weeks…

The context of this series of posts is the course of the Jewish people for the initial 49 years of the 483 year period communicated from the angel Gabriel to the prophet Daniel. The city of Jerusalem has been rebuilt post exile. These events are covered in Nehemiah 8-13. Israel is getting back to God’s ways. The next step is honoring the Sabbath.

Nehemiah 10:31a And if the peoples of the land bring in goods or any grain on the Sabbath day to sell, we will not buy from them on the Sabbath or on a holy day.

The concept of the Sabbath was introduced to Israel when they were wandering in the desert for 40 years. This is the first mention of the term “Sabbath”. The specific details are noted in Exodus 16:22-30. God is promising Israel He will provide. Take a day off and rest. It is a gift from God.

Exodus 16:23 then he said to them, “This is what the LORD meant: Tomorrow is a Sabbath observance, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. Bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and all that is left over put aside to be kept until morning.”

Exodus 16:29 “See, the LORD has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you bread for two days on the sixth day. Remain every man in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.”

The word “Sabbath” in the Hebrew is transliterated. It is also “Sabbath” in English. The term is equated with rest. It is to be set apart, sacred, and holy.

God introduced the concept in the creation week. On the seventh day, He rested and reflected on His work. God did not need to rest but He did. The Sabbath is “barak” in the Hebrew or blessed. This day is set apart and clean. The ordinance is best described as given to Moses by God Himself. The context is the 10 Commandments.

Exodus 20:8-11 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Nehemiah is teaching Israel about the Sabbath at the end of the week and the holy days. Economic activity will cease during these days. Sales will come to a halt. God set the standard.

There Shall Be Seven Weeks: Confession of Sin

Daniel 9:25b …there shall be seven weeks…

The context of this series of posts is the course of the Jewish people for the initial 49 years of the 483 year period communicated from the angel Gabriel to the prophet Daniel. The city of Jerusalem has been rebuilt post exile.

The people of Israel have returned to God and celebrated the Fall Feasts for the first time as a nation in their Promised Land and in Jerusalem. The Fall Feasts concluded on Tishri 22nd. Two days later…

Nehemiah 9:1 On the twenty-fourth day of the same month, the Israelites gathered together, fasting and wearing sackcloth, with dust on their heads.

Israel under the leadership of Nehemiah and Ezra, they wasted no time. The date is two days after the solemn assembly on the 24th of Tishri. We know the occasion is of serious tone. Note the description of the scene: fasting, sackcloth, and dust on their heads. Humility is the idea.

Nehemiah 9:2 And the Israelites separated themselves from all foreigners and stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.

The nation Israel “separated” or badal in the Hebrew. They set themselves apart from other peoples. Badal is the same word used in the creation week. God divided the day from night. He separated the light from darkness.

The same is true for us today as followers of Jesus Christ. Believers are not to be a part of this world. We are called to be holy and different.

John 15:19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

1 Peter 1:15-16 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

~

and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.

This is a corporate and historical confession. The people of the nation of Israel are admitting they are sinners both currently and in the past. Israel is expressing their guilt. They know they are worthy of punishment. But, the people continued to worship God.

Nehemiah 9:3 And they stood up in their place and read from the Book of the Law of the LORD their God for a quarter of the day; for another quarter of it they made confession and worshiped the LORD their God.

Gabriel’s Historical Decree

Posted in #PaulthePoke, Angels, Prophecy with tags , , , , , , , on August 29, 2020 by paulthepoke

Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and to anoint a most holy place.

Gabriel has provided Daniel an outline from his place in time at 539 BC through the end of the gentile reign, into the Millennial Kingdom and beyond. The promises stated by Gabriel have yet to be completely fulfilled over 2,500 years later.

Let’s take a look at the overview of what Gabriel says will come to pass.

Seventy weeks… The first part of the time equation is straight forward. Shibim is the Hebrew word for the number 70. The second word is a bit more complicated as we see it from a western perspective. The Hebrew word of “weeks” is shabua. Per Strong’s Concordance, shabua is defined as a period of seven (days, years), heptad, week. For the purpose of this outline, 70 sets of seven years is 490 years. 70 X 7 = 490. There will be more on this concept of 70 7’s later.

your people… In this instance and the next, Gabriel references Daniel’s people and holy city. Gabriel is not a person, he is an angel. Daniel’s people are Israeli’s.

your holy city… Daniel’s holy city is Jerusalem. Gabriel’s home is in Heaven.

finish the transgression… This is the Hebrew phrase kela’ pesha`. The grammar of the verse indicates there will be intensive action that will finish rebellion. In other words, the party is definitively over. The rebellion will be undoubtedly crushed. Game over.

put an end to sin… Sin will cease. God as an external force will flex His will and stop sin.

atone for iniquity… Atone or kaphar in the Hebrew, kaphar means appease, to cover over, pacify, make propitiation (Strong’s Concordance). Atone for what? Sin or avon. This is the punishment or consequence of the guilt of sin.

atone for iniquity” is a prophecy of the cross work of Jesus Christ. 1 John 2:1-2 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

bring in everlasting righteousness… everlasting or olam in the Hebrew. Olam is the word for eternal, long duration, antiquity, futurity, forever… What is forever? Righteousness or tsedeq. The term can also be translated as justice. The grammar states eternal, perfect justice will be caused to occur. Humanity has failed to be fair or blind in its administration of justice. The days of corruption will be brought to an end permanently by God.

seal both vision and prophet… The need for messengers, communication, dreams, visions and prophecy will be no more. God’s word will have been fulfilled and completed.

anoint a most holy place… This phrase could be translated one of many ways per commentators. The words “place” and “one” are implied after “holy“. The verse could literally read “anoint most holy” or “anoint holy”.

NET Bible offers up three possibilities.

  1. “the most holy place”
  2. “a most holy one”
  3. “the most holy one”

In the final analysis, a verse towards the end of Revelation may provide some clarity.

Revelation 21:22 And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb.

Gabriel: Jesus, Born of The Spirit

Posted in #PaulthePoke, Angels with tags , , , , , , on February 17, 2020 by paulthepoke

Luke 1:35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God…

spirit cloud

In the New Testament, the Greek word for “Spirit” is πνεῦμα/pneuma. Per Strong’s Concordance, pneuma is defined in this context as: the third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit, coequal, co-eternal with the Father and the Son; sometimes referred to in a way which emphasizes his personality and character as the Holy Spirit; sometimes referred to in a way which emphasizes his work and power as the Spirit of Truth; never referred to as a depersonalized force.

The Spirit is set apart, sacred or Holy. ἅγιος/agios is the Greek term. This Spirit is different.

This is not Star Wars. The Spirit is not the Force…The Spirit is a person of the Trinity.

The angel Gabriel is telling Mary; the Spirit will come to you with purpose and result.

…and the power… the word translated as power is δύναμις/dunamis. Defined, the term means: miraculous power, might, or strength. In English, we get the word dynamite in our vocabulary. The word δύναμις/dunamis is also translated as miracle in other places in the New Testament.

Jesus was attributed with doing “miracles” or δύναμις/dunamis on many occasions.

Matthew 11:20 Then He began to denounce the cities in which most of His miracles were done, because they did not repent.

The point being made by Gabriel is the power of the Highest is supernatural dynamite.

~

…will overshadow you… The Greek word is ἐπισκιάζω/episkiazó. The idea is to cast a shadow or envelope. The term is only used 5 times in the New Testament. On several occasions, a cloud was noted to cast a shadow. One example is noted below.

Luke 9:34 As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.

The Spirit of the Highest will envelope Mary.

~

therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God…

The child will be set apart, sacred and Holy, as is The Father, as is the Spirit.

Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.

Revelation’s Four Living Creatures

Posted in #PaulthePoke, Angels, Revelation with tags , , , , , , on November 17, 2019 by paulthepoke

Revelation 4:6b-8 And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind: the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like an eagle in flight. And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”

Welcome to the throne room of Heaven. These are Revelation’s four creatures. They have an up close and personal view of the throne itself. These are not the four creatures mentioned in Ezekiel 1. See the details of these four faced beings below.

https://paulthepoke.com/2019/11/10/four-living-creatures/

An individual being is located on each of the four side of the throne. John observes twice that each entity is loaded with eyes all of over their bodies.

Revelation 4:6b …full of eyes in front and behind…

Revelation 4:8a,c And the four living creatures… are full of eyes all around and within…

Each creature has six wings.

Revelation 4:8a,b And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings…

Each being is distinct in its appearance. They are described as being similar to or resembling a corresponding animal. The body of the third creature is not described but its face is.

Revelation 4:7 …the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like an eagle in flight.

Their message is consistent and non stop. God is holy.

Revelation 4:8b “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”

Some believe the three calls for “holy” is a reference to the Trinity and recognition that each member (Father, Son, and Spirit) is indeed God.

Holy or ἅγιος/hagios in the Greek is defined as sacred, set apart, or different, distinguished, distinct unlike anything else.

The Hebrew word for holy is qodesh.

God’s holiness is foundational. God’s holiness separates Him from sin. Holiness is the most mentioned attribute of God in Scripture.

Psalm 47:8 God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.

Psalm 89:14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.

Psalm 9:7 But the LORD sits enthroned forever; He has established his throne for justice…

Psalm 97:2 Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

~

These four creatures will introduce the four horsemen of the Apocalypse in Revelation 6. The lion like creature will call for the first white horse and its rider. The ox like creature will call for the red horse and rider. The man faced being will call for the black horse and rider. The eagle like creature will call for the pale horse and rider. They all make the same proclamation, “Come!

~

And these four creatures proclaim the eternal nature of God.

Revelation 4:8b …who was and is and is to come!

Revelation 4:9 And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever…

Revelation: Philadelphia, Key of David

Posted in Prophecy, Revelation with tags , , , , , , , , , on November 19, 2017 by paulthepoke

Revelation 3:7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: ‘The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens.

Pηιλαδελπηεια/philadelphos: “Brotherly love” in the original Greek (Strong’s Concordance).

Philadelphia is a city of Lydia in Asia Minor. It is located near the eastern base of Mount Tmolus approximately 25 miles southeast of Sardis. Historically, the city has been hit by multiple significant earthquakes. This is the modern day city of Allah-Shehr, Turkey. To the Muslim, this means “city of God”.

Jesus Christ is going to define a couple aspects of His character.

Holy or ἅγιος/hagios: It means set apart by (or for) God, holy, sacred. Jesus Christ is different.

True or ἀληθινός/aléthinos: It literally means made of truth. Substantially true, real, or genuine. Jesus Christ is the real deal. He is the essence and integrity of truth.

Definitions provided by Strong’s Concordance.

…the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens.

The remainder of the verse is a reference to Isaiah 22:22 And I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David. He shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.

old keyIn ancient times, officials in charge would literally carry keys tied to a kerchief on their shoulder. Who knows, we may see Jesus with keys tied to his shoulder at some point in the future.

Figuratively, Jesus is the sole authority in charge of the kingdom of Israel. The kingdom lineage goes through the line of David. Responsibility and burden of leadership goes through Him. Christ has the ultimate say and He is control. His decisions are final and He is ultimately responsible.

The same concept is communicated by Jesus to His disciples within the context of the church. Believers or church members will be fellow heirs in the kingdom.

Matthew 16:19 “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

Oh, it is coming…

Isaiah 9:6-7 For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
