Teshuvah 5786/5951/2026

The season of Teshuvah begins on the first day of the Hebrew month Elul.

Teshuvah is a 40 day period that runs through the holiday of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.

Teshuvah is the Hebrew word for repent.

The call of Teshuvah is to turn back towards God and repent. As Christians, we should return to Jesus.

The point of the season for Judaism is to prepare for the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah and the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur.

Elul is the last month of the civic calendar in Judaism. Elul is the sixth month of the religious calendar.

Jewish tradition points to the name of the month to be an acronym of “Ani l’dodi v’dodi li” a quote from Song of Songs 6:3 I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine… 

The month is mentioned one time in the Bible. 

In Aramaic, the vernacular of the Jewish people at the time that the month names were adopted, the word Elul means “search”.

Per Strong’s Concordance, Elul means “nothingness” in the Hebrew.

On our western Gregorian calendar in the year 2026, Elul begins at sunset on Wednesday, August 12 as calculated by 21st century time keeping.

The traditional, secular Hebrew calendar is a lunar calendar. These folks are waiting on the sighting of the new moon to determine the start of the month.

The Essenes followed a solar calendar. A solar calendar has a leap week as compared to a leap month with a lunar calendar.

On the Essene calendar, Elul 1st will take place on Sunday, August 16th, 2026. It is the year 5951 AM. In other words, 5,951 years since creation.

It is Jewish custom to blow a shofar (ram’s horn) one time every day during the season of Teshuvah. The trumpet is blown every day except Shabbat or the Sabbath (Saturday for us in western culture) and the last day of month of Elul. The trumpet is blown after the morning service. The shofar is blown frequently…

Genesis 1:14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years…”

The Hebrew word for “signs” is ‘owth. It means: sign, signal, a distinguishing mark, banner, remembrance, miraculous sign, omen, warning; token, ensign, standard, miracle, proof.

From the beginning, God stated the sun, moon, and stars are points of communication.

Ancient myth? Or is God trying to get our attention. He knows the end from the beginning.

Isaiah 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, ‘My plan will be established, and I will accomplish all My good pleasure.

This year, during Teshuvah, the world will be treated to solar and lunar eclipses.

Ancient Jewish rabbis have taught the moon represents Israel. The sun represents the gentile nations. The location of the celestial event is a warning to the geography impacted. Pay Heed!

On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse will occur over eastern Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, the eastern Atlantic Ocean, Spain, and a very small corner of northeast Portugal.

Was Jonah’s Greatest Sign Really the Fish? -Mark Wilson

Most people remember Jonah as the prophet swallowed by a great fish.

But Yeshua saw something greater.

When the religious leaders demanded a sign, He pointed them back to Israel’s Scriptures:

“No sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.”
Matthew 12:39

Jonah’s descent, return to life, and mission to the nations formed a divinely woven pattern of Messiah’s death, resurrection, and worldwide call to repentance.

❖ A Galilean prophet of Israel’s restoration

Before Nineveh, Jonah had already prophesied Israel’s restoration:

“According to the word of the LORD, the God of Israel, which He spoke through His servant Jonah.” 2 Kings 14:25

God had seen Israel’s affliction and had not forgotten His people (2 Kings 14:25–27).

Jonah was also from Gath-hepher in Galilee. That makes the later claim, “No prophet arises from Galilee,” deeply ironic (John 7:52). Jonah had arisen from Galilee, and now the greater Jonah stood among them.

❖ Jonah’s journey is a repeated descent

The Hebrew narrative emphasizes Jonah’s downward movement.

He goes down to Joppa, down into the ship, down into its innermost parts, and finally down into the sea.

From the depths he cries: “Out of the belly of Sheol I cried.” Jonah 2:2

“I went down to the foundations of the mountains.” Jonah 2:6

Jonah speaks in the language of death, Sheol, the pit, and burial.

Then God reverses the descent: “Yet You brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God.” Jonah 2:6

The pattern is clear: descent, apparent death, divine deliverance, restored life.

Yeshua identified this as the sign of His own death and resurrection:

“Just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” Matthew 12:40

Jonah descended because he fled from God’s will.

Yeshua descended because He obeyed it.

❖ One man is handed over and others are spared

Jonah tells the sailors: “Pick me up and throw me into the sea; then the sea will become calm for you.” Jonah 1:12

They plead, “Do not charge us with innocent blood” (Jonah 1:14).

When Jonah is handed over, the storm ceases and everyone aboard is spared. Jonah suffered because of his own disobedience, so the comparison is not perfect.

But Yeshua, the truly innocent One, willingly gave Himself for others: “No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of My own accord.” John 10:18

Jonah’s surrender calmed a temporary storm.

Messiah’s sacrifice brings peace with God (Isaiah 53:5).

Jonah slept while sailors feared for their lives. Yeshua also slept during a storm and was awakened by terrified disciples (Mark 4:38).

But Jonah could not command the sea.

Yeshua rebuked it: “Peace! Be still!” Mark 4:39

Jonah was powerless before the waters.

The greater Jonah ruled them.

❖ The suffering prophet prayed Israel’s Scriptures

Jonah’s prayer echoes Psalms 18, 42, 69, 116, and 120, and concludes: “Salvation belongs to the LORD.” Jonah 2:9; Psalm 3:8

Yeshua likewise prayed Israel’s Psalms in His suffering (Psalm 22:1; Matthew 27:46; Psalm 31:5; Luke 23:46).

The suffering prophet prayed Israel’s songs.

The suffering Messiah fulfilled them.

❖ Life from death leads to Gentile repentance

After Jonah is brought up from the depths, the word of the LORD comes again: “Arise, go to Nineveh.” Jonah 3:2

The prophet who had descended into Sheol now rises and carries God’s message to the Gentiles.

Nineveh believes God, turns from violence, and receives mercy: “God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way.” Jonah 3:10

Following Messiah’s resurrection, repentance and forgiveness likewise go from Jerusalem to the nations: “Repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.” Luke 24:47

The pattern is striking: death, return to life, renewed commission, Gentile repentance.

Yet God had not abandoned Israel.

Jonah was an Israelite prophet, and the nations received mercy through Israel’s messenger.

“In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Genesis 12:3

“I will also make You a light to the nations.” Isaiah 49:6

God’s mercy reaches the nations through Israel, not by erasing Israel.

❖ Jewish commentary sharpens Yeshua’s warning

Rashi explained that Jonah resisted Nineveh because he expected the Gentiles to repent quickly, exposing Israel’s failure to heed her prophets.

This highlighted Yeshua’s warning: “The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.” Matthew 12:41

Nineveh repented at the preaching of a reluctant prophet.

Israel’s leaders stood before the obedient Messiah.

Jonah performed no signs in Nineveh.

Yeshua healed the sick, opened blind eyes, taught Torah with authority, and proclaimed the Kingdom. Something greater than Jonah had come.

❖ Jonah knew mercy but struggled to reflect it

Jonah admits why he fled: “I knew that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abundant in mercy.” Jonah 4:2

He was echoing Exodus 34:6.

Jonah understood God’s mercy, but resented seeing it extended to Nineveh. Jonah sat outside the city hoping judgment would fall.

Yeshua approached Jerusalem knowing judgment was coming and wept over it (Luke 19:41–44).

Jonah was angry that sinners might live.

Yeshua gave His life so sinners could live.

Jonah descended unwillingly because of disobedience.

Yeshua descended willingly in perfect obedience.

Jonah emerged from the depths and preached repentance to one Gentile city.

Yeshua rose from the dead and sent repentance to every nation.

Jonah was a sign.

Yeshua was its fulfillment.

The sign had been embedded in Israel’s Scriptures all along.

Great American Eclipse Part II, April 8, 2024

The Hebrew word for “signs” is ‘owth. It means: sign, signal, a distinguishing mark, banner, remembrance, miraculous sign, omen, warning; token, ensign, standard, miracle, proof.

The eclipse is set to take place on April 8th, 2024 on our western Gregorian calendar. On a Hebrew calendar, the eclipse will usher in the Biblical New Year, Nisan 1. The year is 5784 per the secular Hebrew calendar. Per the Essenes’ calendar, the year is 5949 (note, we are getting close to the last Jubilee of this 1,000 years). Time, time, time…

Ancient Jewish rabbis have taught the moon represents Israel. The Hebrew calendar follows the cycle of the moon. The sun represents the gentile nations. Gentile calendars follow the cycle of the sun. In the case of solar eclipses, the nation experiencing the phenomenon is the nation under consideration.

So, is the United States in the crosshairs of a potential Divine judgment? Coincidence? Myth? Or, the Creator God?

As a reminder, this was the set up from seven years ago. This was the first of three solar eclipses to crisscross North America.

Then, there was a second solar eclipse. Granted the eclipse on October 14, 2023 was an annular solar eclipse.

The intersection of these three eclipses very much looks like the ancient Hebrew letter “aleph”. This is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The meaning of “aleph” according to Hebrew scholars is: origin of the universe; leader, chief. Some suggest the “oneness of God.” It is associated with the Greek letter “Alpha” or the beginning.

Observation, the three intersection points happen to coincide with a significant earthquake fault line or subduction zone.

The solar eclipse scheduled for April 8, 2024 is the third. The first complete solar eclipse occurred on August 21st, 2017.

The intersection of these two total solar eclipses is similar to the Hebrew letter “tav”. This is the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The letter means: mark, sign, omen, or seal, it is the symbol of truth, perfection, and completion.

X will mark the spot in a region of southern Illinois called “Little Egypt”.

The letters represent the “Alpha and Omega”, the beginning and the end. Who does this describe? Is this a final warning?

Revelation 22:12-13 “Behold, I am coming soon, and My reward is with Me, to give to each one according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” -Jesus

Ancient Nineveh heeded the message from a solar eclipse and a prophet named Jonah. Their response, Nineveh repented from their evil ways. Judgment from God was spared.

Jonah 3:10 When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it.

Here are some fun facts about the upcoming eclipse on April 8th, 2024.

  1. There are seven towns named Nineveh in the United States.
  2. Two of the seven Nineveh’s are in totality path of eclipse.
  3. Rapture, Indiana (only town named Rapture in the US) is in totality path.
  4. Jonah, Texas (only town named Jonah in the US) is in totality path.
  5. As in 2017, there will be seven cities named Salem in the totality path. This time in Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, and three in Texas.
  6. The eclipse occurs 70 days before Pentecost. Israel was in bondage 70 years in Babylon. The number evokes the idea of release from exile. The 16th Hebrew letter “Ayin” meaning: eyes, salvation.
  7. The eclipse path is 120 miles wide. Day/age theorists believe there are 120 jubilees or 6,000 years before the onset of Christ’s Millennial Kingdom.

Has America had a heart of repentance over the past 6 1/2 years since the last solar eclipse? Sadly, I don’t think so. Culturally, we have drifted further away from God and His word.

Are we a country deserving of judgment? Praying that difficult days and times are not on the American horizon…

Super Blood Wolf Moon, January 2019

Psalms 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.

A wolf moon is a full moon in January. This wolf moon will be in total eclipse or a blood moon. Hence the term, Super Blood Wolf Moon.

The lunar eclipse in 2019 will occur on January 20-21, 2019. In North America, the partial lunar eclipse will begin at  10:34 pm EST on January 20th and the total lunar eclipse will begin at 11:41 pm EST on January 20th. Totality will end at 12:43 am EST on January 21st, and the partial eclipse will end at 1:50 am on January 21st. The total lunar eclipse will also be viewable in western Europe and extreme northern Asia.

How to See the Next Lunar Eclipse: October 28-29, 2023

Joel 2:31 The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes.

Peter quotes the verse above in Acts 2:20.

The answer lies in the verse. Read carefully. Note the word “before”. Is the upcoming event a “sign”? If it is a sign, it is just that… a sign. A sign indicates something is coming. Nothing is going to happen other than an incredible celestial event.

This January 2019 total lunar eclipse will mark the end of a decade long series of lunar and solar eclipses. There have been a total of 40 heavenly events from 2010-2019. At the center of these events was the tetrad of lunar eclipses that occurred on Passover 2014, Tabernacles 2014, Passover 2015, and Tabernacles 2015.

To quote the observer of this phenomenon Paul Grevas, “This is the only tetrad in world history from 3000 BC to 2015 AD to display symmetrical perfection of exact days about midpoint with all 40 eclipses 2010-2019.”

Of interest, there are 40 heavenly signs with perfect symmetry. The number 40 is consistent with the Hebraic concept of Teshuvah. The English term we use is “repent”. The idea is to turn toward God. People are called to turn away from their sin, repent, and change course. It is a time of inward reflection and sincere self-assessment. The goal is a change in lifestyle away from sin to obedience in God’s word.

To be clear, I am not calling for the resurrection of the dead or the rapture. If you are looking for date setting and corresponding events, this is not your website. My money says the resurrection and rapture do not happen. That said, I welcome the prophecy with open arms. Come Lord Jesus!

IF… this is the last sign of a decade long process within a series of 40 signs, the message is simple. It is a warning. We are called to repent of our ways. Change your hearts and return to God. Believe in the cross work of Jesus. If not, judgment is coming.

Believe what you want, it’s your choice.

But don’t kid yourself. We are trending hard towards a date with destiny…

Revelation 12 Sign: Kepler’s Math & Software, August 2017

Revelation 12:1 And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.

Pockets of the Christian community are buzzing about this verse. This fall on the Feast of Trumpets also known as Yom Teruah, this configuration of heavenly bodies will form in the sky. Many think that because this “sign” is appearing on and around the Feast of Trumpets, this points to the rapture on or near September 23, 2017.

The Greek word for “sign” is σημεῖον/sémeion. Per Strong’s Concordance it means: a sign, miracle, indication, mark, token.

HELPS Word Studies defines the term as following: a sign (typically miraculous), given especially to confirm, corroborate or authenticate; emphasizes the end-purpose which exalts the one giving it.

So the question becomes, does the “sign” indicate we have arrived at the destination of rapture of the church? Or does the “sign” indicate the event is approaching? When we are driving down the interstate, a sign says “St. Louis 250 miles”. There is also a sign that declares we have arrived in St. Louis. So where are we? Are we approaching rapture? Or is the rapture this Feast of Trumpets, September 23, 2017?

It is not the intent of the author to defend or articulate the position of those with this point of view. They can speak for themselves. It is my intent to give some points of consideration.

 

Statistical data regarding uniqueness of the event is unquestionable. Thanks to math of Johannes Kepler and his laws of planetary motion and physics, we are able to calculate the movement of heavenly bodies. The equations and calculations are run on computer software. The heavens are a finely tuned clock which can be run forward and backward.

The sign appears to be a once in 7,000 year event. If one subscribes to a literal seven day creation as stated in the Bible, the earth and universe are about 6,000 years old. This “sign” is a once in a creation event. It is a statistically rare astronomical event intentioned to get our attention. I am not getting in the way of that math assuming it is correct.

As human beings, we need to keep ourselves in check. We are fallen in our current state of humanity. We make mistakes. Rigid, inflexible dogmatic positions will lead to brokenness. And we do not possess the mind of God.

Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. -The Lord God

 

Many of the folks supporting the Rapture Fall 2017 position utilize the internet program Stellarium.

But there are questions. Does the Stellarium software (or any other for that matter) take into account Joshua’s long day? How long was Joshua’s long day? Software can only apply what it knows in the present. There needs to be a known, accurate point of comparison in the past to confirm the math in the present.

Joshua 10:12-13 At that time Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD gave the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, “Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.” And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stopped in the midst of heaven and did not hurry to set for about a whole day.

Kepler himself misapplied his math when looking for the Star of Bethlehem. He was off by about a year or two. My point is one or two years matters. To quote Einstein, “God does not play dice.” He is not loose or sloppy with His timing. God invented math.
