Resurrection…What’s the Point?

Posted in Gospel, Prophecy with tags , , , , , , , , , , on March 27, 2016 by paulthepoke

1 Corinthians 15:13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised;

emptytomb

The Greek word for “resurrection” is anastasis. It means: raising up, rising (e.g. from a seat); a rising from the dead; that of Christ; that of all men at the end of this present age. –Strong’s Concordance

The resurrection of Jesus is the power of God. The resurrection validates and authenticates Christ’s death on the cross which is the payment for sin.

So what if Jesus was not raised from the dead? What’s the big deal about the resurrection? Who cares? Scripture states twice in the below verses, we are wasting our time with Christianity and the Bible if the resurrection is not true. Without the resurrection, we physically die and our bodies are eternally buried. We are dirt and worm food. Job 21:26 Together they lie down in the dust, and worms cover them. Our bodies become the byproduct of worm digestion…

1 Corinthians 15:14b …your faith is also in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised;

1 Corinthians 15:17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.

Without Jesus’ resurrection, our faith is described as “vain” and “worthless”.

The Greek word for “vain” is kenos. It means: empty, devoid of truth; contains nothing; empty handed; without a gift; fruitless; no purpose.

The Greek word for “worthless” is mataios. It means: devoid of force, truth, success, result; useless, of no purpose.

This is our faith without the resurrection of Christ. Without Jesus’ resurrection, there is no hope for our bodies. We are dead and buried, a corrupt, sinful mess.

If we are not resurrected in the future, then Christ’s resurrection did not occur. That’s the security and truth of the resurrection.

1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

Adam introduced sin to humanity. The result of sin was bodily death. Genesis 2:17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.

As believers in Christ, our soul and spirit are separated from the body at the point of physical death.

1 Corinthians 15:26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death.

1 Corinthians 15:54 But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “Death is swallowed up in victory.” The Apostle Paul is quoting Isaiah 25:8.

1 Corinthians 15:55 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?Hosea 13:14

1 Corinthians 15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law;

1 Corinthians 15:57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Greek word for “victory” is nikos. This is the word for the brand name Nike. Jesus’ resurrection is the power over death and sin. Christ is without sin (1 Peter 2:22, Hebrews 4:15, 1 John 3:5). He fulfilled the law (Matthew 5:17, Romans 10:4). He is the victory.

The promise of the resurrection is glorification, the reconnection of our body, soul, and spirit.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Trend Update: Pope Francis Extends Forgivesness, Abortion, November 2016

November 21, 2016: Pope Francis has extended forgiveness for abortion. All priests around the world have been granted this authority from the Pope. This act of mercy and forgiveness is now a permanent edict from Pope Francis.

Previously, abortion brought automatic excommunication. There were special, technical conditions where excommunication could be avoided. But as of today…

“Pope Francis delineates the path of the future life of the church so that it can always be an instrument of mercy toward everyone, without ever excluding anyone,” Archbishop Fisichella.

On September 1, 2015, Pope Francis announced he was granting authority to priests to forgive women for the sin of abortion. Women must demonstrate contrition for the forgiveness. The forgiveness was available during the upcoming Catholic holy year of Jubilee. At the time, it was not clear if this forgiveness would be extended after the holy year was completed. Would it be a one-time only offer? The Pope was doing this as an act of mercy during the Catholic year of Jubilee. This Catholic Jubilee year is not to be confused with God’s Jubilee year described by Moses in the Law.

The Pope is a very likeable guy. He is the Pope of the people. Pope Francis is a nice man and appears to have good intentions. But, the Pope it is not capable of forgiving sin(s). Francis’ word or decree does not cleanse anybody. It is the shedding of Christ’s blood that is the forgiveness of sins.

Hebrews 9:12 He (Jesus) entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.

Romans 5:9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.

Jesus is our High Priest. He is our representative before the Father. At this time (September 2015), we do not need an earthly priest. Pope Francis, a priest, or any other human on earth does not represent us before God the Father.

Hebrews 7:24-26 but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently. Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens.

With Jesus, forgiveness of sin is not a one-time special offer. “For this year only…” No, you can come to Jesus any time you want. It does not have to be a special year or date. When Jesus dealt with sin, it was taken care of once and for all time. All people covered if they are accepting of His effort and payment.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit.

Romans 6:10a For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all…

The Greek word for “once” is hapax. It means: once, one time, once for all. Christ’s one and only death is enough to cover the sins of the planet across the ages.

Jesus forgives all sins. There is not a list of special exemptions or conditions. 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. The Greek word for “all” used by John is pas. Per Strong’s Concordance it means: each, every, any, all, the whole, everyone, all things, everything. All sin is forgiven.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

God saves us from sin via the shed blood of His Son. The fine has been paid. There are no strings or conditions attached. Eternal life is a merciful, gracious gift, plain and simple.

What the Hell…No, Bosom of Abraham

Posted in Gospel, Hell, Prophecy with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 10, 2015 by paulthepoke

Luke 16:22 Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried.  Not everyone dies and goes to a place of torment. Prior to the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, those who believed in God’s coming promises went to be in a place of comfort, the Bosom of Abraham (Luke 16:19-31). Things changed after the good news of the works of Christ. But prior to…

Lightning strikes the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park near Hopi Point. Captured from Cape Royal on the North Rim of the park nearly 12 miles away. Zoroaster Temple is the prominent feature in the foreground.

Luke 16:23 In Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom. The text is clear. There are two different places in Hades or Sheol or the grave, the right side of the chasm and the wrong side of the chasm. One is a place of comfort.  The other is a place of hell.  The distance in the verse is “far away” or the Greek phrase makrothen apo. It means: a long way off, afar off, a great distance.

Luke 16:26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, so that those who wish to come over from here to you will not be able, and that none may cross over from there to us.

The distance between the two places is “great” or megas in the Greek text. Per Strong’s Concordance it means: great; of the external form or sensible appearance of things (or of persons); in particular, of space and its dimensions, as respects of compass and extent: large and spacious; of measure and height: long. In English we get the adjective “mega” from this Greek work. Anybody watch Mega Structures on TV?

The Greek word for “chasm” is the transliteration chasma. Per Strong’s it means: a gaping opening, a chasm, a gulf.

This gap is ridiculously huge no matter how it is defined. Notice the destination is fixed. Depending on which side you are, there are no transfers. The transfer request is one way. Those with Abraham are not requesting a move. The instructions are for those on the wrong side of gap. They can not come over.

Luke 16:25 But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony. With Abraham’s space there is “comfort”. The original Greek word is parakaleo. It means: to receive consolation; strengthen; exhorting and comforting and encouraging; to call to one’s side, call for, summon. Abraham’s bosom was a call to comfort.

So how did these people arrive at a place of comfort instead of torment? The book of Hebrews provides the answer. With God, it has always been about faith in His word. Ultimately, does one believe what God says? Faith is defined by Hebrews 11:1-2 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval.

Hebrews 11 provides many examples of Old Testament characters who believed of future things to come. Hebrews 11:13 All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.

Faith without an object is pointless. “I believe! I believe! I believe!” In what?!?!

The Bible calls on humanity to have faith in the good news or Gospel of Jesus Christ, the promises of His second coming, and a future eternity of peace.

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

Isaiah 11:5 Jesus and His Clothes

Posted in Gospel, Isaiah with tags , , , , , , , on January 26, 2014 by paulthepoke

Isaiah 11:5 Also righteousness will be the belt about His loins, and faithfulness the belt about His waist.

Isaiah 59:17 He put on righteousness like a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on His head; and He put on garments of vengeance for clothing and wrapped Himself with zeal as a mantle.

Isaiah and the Old Testament tell what the Messiah will do. The New Testament confirms the promise. Steadiness and firmness are hallmarks of His character. In Revelation 19, the Apostle John confirms Jesus is the identity of the person in Isaiah 11:5 and 59:17.

Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.

As believers, we are called to be Christ-like and follow His example of dress.  Ephesians 6:14-17 Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Do not budge. Our faith, our belief in Christ protects us. He is our foundation. His truth and justice should hold us in place just as a belt supports our pants. This is how to protect ourselves from Satan. Jesus is synonymous with the Word. He is called and is the Word of God (Revelation 19:13).

Isaiah 8:14-16 The Rock

Posted in Gospel, Isaiah with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 27, 2013 by paulthepoke

Isaiah 8:14 “Then He shall become a sanctuary; but to both the houses of Israel, a stone to strike and a rock to stumble over, and a snare and a trap for the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

In Romans 9, the Apostle Paul is quoting from Isaiah 8:14 in the initial half of the verse. Then Isaiah 28:16 is quoted in the back half of the verse. Romans 9 tells us who this “rock” or “stone” is. It is Jesus. Paul connects the dots of the two verses.

Romans 9:33 just as it is written, “BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.”

He is sacred and holy like a sanctuary. The phrase “a stone to strike” was prophetic when written by Isaiah. The grammar of the phrase in Hebrew refers to the stone being struck a fatal blow.  He is an obstacle to the Jewish people.  Jews by and large do not believe He is their Messiah. They remain hostile to His name.

The Hebrew word for “snare” is pach. According to Strong’s Concordance, it literally is a bird trap. Figuratively, it can mean an agent of calamity. He is the bait for the destructive trap to the people of Jerusalem.

Isaiah 8:15 Many will stumble over them, then they will fall and be broken; they will even be snared and caught.”

Verse 15 restates the outcome of the Jewish people. Jesus will be an obstacle. Great numbers will trip over “the rock”. They will be crippled and crushed, shattered into pieces.

Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.

The “stone” is tested and tried. The cornerstone is described as yaqar in the Hebrew. Yaqar can mean: valuable, prized, weighty, precious, rare, splendid, costly, or glorious. The syntax in the original Hebrew language states the “rock” was firmly, intentionally, and intensively placed. We know today, He was sent and set by the Father. The condition is the same whether it is the New Testament or the Old Testament. Believe in “The Rock”.

Isaiah 8:16 Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.

This is an official, sealed, and legal document as far as God is concerned. It was completed once in the past and the results are binding today and forever more.

“It is finished,” Jesus (John 19:30).

Isaiah7:3-9 Be Calm, God Knows

Posted in Isaiah with tags , , , , , , , , on February 10, 2013 by paulthepoke

Isaiah 7:3-4 Then the LORD said to Isaiah, “Go out now to meet Ahaz, you and your son Shear-jashub, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, on the highway to the fuller’s field, and say to him, ‘Take care and be calm, have no fear and do not be fainthearted because of these two stubs of smoldering firebrands, on account of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and the son of Remaliah.

God gives a direct command for Isaiah to take his son with him to meet King Ahaz. Imagine if you were Ahaz and you saw Isaiah and son headed your direction, especially when you take the meaning of their names into account. Isaiah means “Jehovah has saved”, and Shear-jashub means (a remnant will return) according to Strong’s Concordance. This should provide some comfort knowing “Jehovah has saved” and “a remnant will return” is coming your direction as messengers from God.

Isaiah repeats a simple message four times, do not be afraid. Yes, these two adversaries are really ticked but they are losing their fire and just smoking and smoldering. The log is about to burn out.

Isaiah 7:5-6 ‘Because Aram, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has planned evil against you, saying, “Let us go up against Judah and terrorize it, and make for ourselves a breach in its walls and set up the son of Tabeel as king in the midst of it,”

God knows their plans and tells Ahaz. Essentially, God is saying “I know what these guys are up to”. They have plans of being king makers. This northern alliance is looking to replace an enemy with an ally. They look to put a friend in power for political gain. This would be a natural alliance to strengthen their foothold in the region. The idea seems reasonable. They want to put the son of “God is good” (Tabeel) in charge in the south.

They have battle plans in place. They are going to break down the wall in Jerusalem and invade. You can make all the plans you want, God may have other ideas for you.

Isaiah 7:7 thus says the Lord GOD: “It shall not stand nor shall it come to pass.”

Isaiah 7:9 and the head of Ephraim is Samaria and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you will not believe, you surely shall not last.”’”

God has a plan for eternal life. The issue for us is the same issue as it was for Ahaz, faith. Do you trust God? Do you believe Him? It is there for the taking, free of charge…
