Rodna LightIn Matthew’s telling of Jesus’ baptism something amazing happened when Jesus was submerged into the water. Scripture tells that He “came up immediately from the water” as if what they saw was miraculous. It should have taken the normal time to come up after being dunked with the baptizer helping, but in Jesus’ case something supernatural raised Him up, making people take note of it and make record of it. It wasn’t normal. In fact, the heavens opened at the same time, the Spirit of God descended in the form of a dove and the voice of the Father spoke. Have you ever been curious as to what raised Jesus up out of the water so quickly that people wanted to record it? Scripture tells us. Here’s the story as recorded in Matthew 3:13-17

JesusBaptism

Matthew 3:13-14 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?”

Matthew 3:15 But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.

Matthew 3:16-17 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

The baptism was more than symbolic of His death because everything Jesus did was prophetic. In fact, the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit the Prophecy.

Revelation 19:10 Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

His baptism was not only a “fulfillment of all righteousness” but it set the prophetic timer on His own death and resurrection. His own words were to later set the alarm clock to be raised from the dead 3 days after He was crucified when He declared…

John 2:19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

resurrection-2

But, at His baptism in the Jordan River, 3 years prior to His death, the One’s who were present at His baptism were the same One’s present at Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Scripture tells us who and what that was…

  1. The glory of the Father raised Jesus from the dead. “Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4)
  2. The Spirit of God raised Jesus from the dead. “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. (Romans 8:11)
  3. The Power of God raised Jesus from the dead. “I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 1:19-20)
  4. Jesus’ own prophetic words raised Jesus from the dead. “Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” (John 2:19) and “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.” (John 10:17-18)

So that which raised Christ from the dead is that which raised Him up out of the water: The glory of the Father, the Spirit of God, the Power of God, and Jesus’ own prophetic words. In the case of His baptism, those words were most likely “Let it be so for now, for it is proper for us to fulfill all righteousness.”

But don’t miss the fact that the baptism and death and resurrection were all initiated by the Father of glory. Through Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection, we as Sons of the Kingdom are restored to our Father and restored to His glory.

I just think it’s so interesting how all of the Trinity was present and participated at both events, and that the Father bestowed all glory and honor upon His Son. It’s also extremely important to understand and know that Jesus gave us the same glory the Father gave Him before the world was so that we could all become one as the Bride of Christ (John 17:5,22,23) following in His pattern. Just wow! Consider the implications of all that…

Matthew 3:13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.

March 2018: The Israel National Mine Action Authority and HALO Trust are removing land mines from the Qasr al-Yahud Baptism Site on the Jordan River. Many believe this is where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist.

Click on the link below for additional geography and analysis.

Qasr al-Yahud means The Castle of the Jews. The location is approximately 6 miles east of Jericho. 3,000+ mines are expected to be discovered and removed. Cost of the project is estimated to be around $4 million.

“Once the clearance is complete and INMAA and HALO officials can assure the site is safe, the church plots will be returned to the respective denominations and visitors will once again be able to visit these holy sites,” Israeli Defense Ministry.

The geography is a historical location of action in the Bible. It is believed to be the place where nation Israel crossed the Jordan River into the Promised Land after the Exodus from Egypt.

Joshua 3:1 Then Joshua rose early in the morning and they set out from Shittim. And they came to the Jordan, he and all the people of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.

Joshua 4:19-20 The people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and they encamped at Gilgal on the east border of Jericho. And those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up at Gilgal

Gilgal is immediately east of Jericho.

Elijah’s chariot ascended into Heaven from this location on the Jordan River.

2 Kings 2:1 Now when the LORD was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal.

2 Kings 2:4 Elijah said to him, “Elisha, please stay here, for the LORD has sent me to Jericho.” But he said, “As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho.

2 Kings 2:7 Fifty men of the sons of the prophets also went and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan.

Elisha performed many miracles from here on the Jordan River. These are noted throughout 2 Kings.

2 Kings 5:10 Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh will be restored to you and you will be clean.”

This particular geography has historically been a hot spot for Biblical activity. Makes one wonder what the future has in store for this location.

Straight Talk…The Father Is Pleased With The Son, Rodna Epley

RodnaImagine having the best possible dad who is teaching you, his child, how to ride a bike, but you fall off and scrape your knee. Would your dad be disappointed?! Of course not! He would help you back up, give you a hug, put a band aid on your knee if it’s bleeding a lot, and encourage you to get back on the bike to try again. He smiles but he is not disappointed.

Your Father loves you with a kind of love that holds no record of wrong. He isn’t keeping score. He took the score-pad and nailed it to the cross. He was way winning so decided to “finish” that game and begin a new one where we all win! His new game caused us to win even while we are still playing! He peaked at our cards when weren’t looking and steered the game in our favor lol. He’s such a really good Papa! There’s no keeping score in this game. The nail scars in His hands remind us not to ever try keeping score with anyone. All debt and disappointment is “PAID IN FULL”. Now we only love. And forgive. And build. And create. And learn good stewardship of our lives. And help whomever He puts in our paths. And keep the oil lamp burning. And follow His lead. And remain in the Vine. And occupy until He comes. And if we fall down, we get back up and try again knowing we can never disappoint a dad who peaked at our cards!

We all need to learn or relearn who our Father really is. He is only Love. And He set us up to win. But it is His game and His instruction book (Bible). ❤️Love y’all and have a blessed day!

“And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
– Matthew 3:17

“…you have been raised with Christ… seated at the right hand of God… For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”
– Colossians 3:1-4

“…God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.”

Isaiah 11:2 Jesus, The Spirit Rests

Posted in Isaiah, Prophecy with tags , , , , , , , , on January 5, 2014 by paulthepoke

Isaiah 11:2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.

The Gospel accounts of Matthew and John confirm Jesus is the person who the Spirit of the Lord will rest. Matthew 3:16-17 After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”

Jesus is not the first king blessed with the Spirit of God. David was indwelled with the Spirit. This is an example of an Old Testament believer who was indwelled with the Spirit.  1 Samuel 16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon David from that day forward. And Samuel arose and went to Ramah.

Wisdom: chokmah in the Hebrew. It means: skill in war, in administration, shrewdness, prudence in religious affairs, skill in ethical and religious endeavors.

Understanding: biynah in the Hebrew. It means: discernment, faculty.

Counsel: `etsah in the Hebrew. It means: advice, purpose.

Strength: g@buwrah in the Hebrew. It means: strength, might, valor, bravery, mighty deeds (of God).

Knowledge: da`ath in the Hebrew: It means: perception, skill, discernment, understanding, wisdom.

Definitions provided by Strong’s Concordance.

Notice, wisdom and knowledge are different. Biblical wisdom is about the application of a knowledge base. Doing what one knows.

Fear of the Lord: The term yara’ (noted in Proverbs 1:7 and Isaiah 8:12) is the common word for fear in the Old Testament and has a basic three-fold range of meanings: (1) “dread; terror” (Deuteronomy 1:29, Jonah 1:10), (2) “to stand in awe” (I Kings 3:28), (3) “to revere; to respect” (Leviticus 19:3). With the Lord as the object, it captures the polar opposites of shrinking back in fear and drawing close in awe and adoration (NET Bible notes).
