Tribulation: Temple or Tabernacle Tent

Posted in Prophecy, Temple with tags , , , , , , , , , , on May 12, 2016 by paulthepoke

Is a “temple” necessary for the tribulation? Would a tent of meeting structure or tabernacle work? After all, the antichrist needs something to defile.

2 Thessalonians 2:4 …who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.

Daniel 11:31 Forces from him will arise, desecrate the sanctuary fortress, and do away with the regular sacrifice. And they will set up the abomination of desolation.

See also Daniel 9:27, Matthew 24:15-16, Mark 13:14.

There are two Greek words in the New Testament used for the term “temple”. The meanings of the two terms are distinct and different from each other. The two Greek words are hieron and naos.

The focus of this post is the Greek term hieron.

Hieron: A sacred place, temple. Strong’s Concordance

The temple of Jerusalem consisted of the whole of the sacred enclosure, embracing the entire aggregate of buildings, balconies, porticos, courts (that is that of the men of Israel, that of the women, and that of the priests), belonging to the temple. This would be the term hieron.

The courts are the location for the teaching of Jesus and the apostles. All people had access to the court where Jesus taught. John 7:14 But when it was now the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and began to teach.

Luke 21:38 And all the people would get up early in the morning to come to Him in the temple to listen to Him.

This is where confrontations with adversaries occurred “in the temple”. Matthew 4:5 Then the devil took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple…

John 8:59 Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple.

The hieron is where Jesus drove the buyers and sellers and the money changers out of the temple.    Mark 11:15 Then they came to Jerusalem. And He entered the temple and began to drive out those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves…

It is also the location of the court of the women or the middle court. Luke 21:1-2 And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury. And He saw a poor widow putting in two small copper coins.

Hieron is used as a noun: a sacred place, a temple; signifying the entire building with its precincts, or some part thereof, as distinct from the naos: the inner sanctuary. Hieron is never used figuratively.

The term hieron is the primary context of Jesus and the apostles. The antichrist is not observed in the context of the term hieron.

Millennial Kingdom: Joy, Part 1

Posted in Millennial Kingdom, Prophecy with tags , , , , , , , , , on April 17, 2016 by paulthepoke

Isaiah 12:6 Cry aloud and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

One of the characteristics of the Millennial Kingdom is joy. The expression of joy is not a warm fuzzy passive feeling. Fun haters and negative attitudes are not welcome. The Scripture references are consistent and clear…cry and shout with passion!

The Hebrew word for “cry aloud” is tsahal. Per Strong’s Concordance it means to cry shrilly intensively and intentionally.

The Hebrew word for “shout” is ranan. It means: to give a ringing cry in joy, exaltation, or distress; to cry aloud in summons, exhortation of wisdom.

Zion is Jerusalem. They are to emphatically know with passion there is to be joy in Zion.

The Holy One of Israel is a term that is used scores of times in the Old Testament. The Holy One of Israel is equated with the Lord. The Holy One is the creator God. He is in control and has a plan. Isaiah 45:11 Thus says the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: “Ask Me about the things to come concerning My sons, and you shall commit to Me the work of My hands.

The New Testament confirms the identity of the Holy One of Israel. It is Jesus. Colossians 1:15-17 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

Isaiah 9:3 You shall multiply the nation, You shall increase their gladness; they will be glad in Your presence as with the gladness of harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

The grammar in the Hebrew says, God will magnify and make great their gladness. The concept with gladness is joy, mirth, gaiety, and pleasure. He (Jesus) will be in their presence. The pleasure will be like the ultimate bumper crop of fresh home grown tomatoes. The original grammar indicates the mirth will be like winning the greatest all time lottery, resources galore.

Isaiah 30:29 You will have songs as in the night when you keep the festival, and gladness of heart as when one marches to the sound of the flute, to go to the mountain of the LORD, to the Rock of Israel.

The Millennial Kingdom is described as a concert type atmosphere. There will be singing at night and gatherings with lots of food.

The Hebrew word for “heart” is lebab. Culturally, the lebab is viewed as the inner man, mind, will, heart, soul, understanding. The lebab will be giddy with joy. The people will have an extra hop in their step when they go to the mountain of the Lord or the Temple in Jerusalem. The place is going to be rocking.

Who is the Rock of Israel? The Apostle Paul in the book of Romans quotes Isaiah 8:14 and 28:16 to identify the Rock. Romans 9:33 as it is written, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

If you believe in the Rock, you will be saved.

Trend Update: Temple Red Heifer/Priest Identification, April 2016

Posted in Prophecy, Sanhedrin, Temple, Trend Update with tags , , , , , , , , , on April 6, 2016 by paulthepoke

Exodus 28:1 Then bring near to yourself Aaron your brother, and his sons with him, from among the sons of Israel, to minister as priest to Me—Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons.

The Temple Institute is looking for a few good men. The Institute has begun the second stage towards building the Temple. They are trying to identify a list of Jewish priests who will be eligible to prepare the red heifer ashes and serve in the Temple.

The term for these priests is kohanim.

Here is the potential resume for such priests or kohanim. The man must be from the line of Aaron and be able to offer proof. He must have been born and raised in Israel. The kohan must not have come in contact with the dead (people or animals). The potential priest cannot have been born in a hospital. He should have no history of visiting a hospital. If the candidate has visited a cemetery, he is discarded. These are some of the ceremonial cleanliness laws noted in the Law or Torah of the Bible.

An eligible list of potential priests will begin training for the preparation of the red heifer ashes. The ashes from the sacrifice of the red heifer are necessary for purification prior to the building of the Temple. Directions for red heifer purification and priestly function are noted in Numbers 19:1-10.

The Temple Institute is committed to raising a red heifer. Not just one, but raise a herd of red heifers. I guess it is time to throw numbers at the issue instead of waiting for one to be born and finding it. The Temple Institute has joined forces with a cattle rancher in Israel. They have applied the best of breeding techniques, genetics, and embryology. Frozen embryos of red angus cattle have been implanted in Israeli cattle.

Numbers 19:1-2 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, “This is the statute of the law which the Lord has commanded, saying, ‘Speak to the sons of Israel that they bring you an unblemished red heifer in which is no defect and on which a yoke has never been placed.

http://paulthepoke.com/2015/08/02/trend-update-temple-red-heifer-august-2015/

“This is a huge jump for the Temple Institute and a huge leap for the Jewish people. For the first time in 2,000 years, after miraculously returning to the Land of Israel, we are beginning the process of reinstating the Biblical purity of the Jewish priesthood.” -Rabbi Chaim Richman.

Kohanim have recently begun lighting the menorah using pure olive oil for first time in nearly 2,000 years.

The Sanhedrin have recently begun marking time as directed in the Bible with the identification of the new moon or Rosh Chodesh for the first time in 2,000 years.

Trend Update: Sanhedrin, March 2016

Matthew 26:59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were trying to find false testimony against Jesus so that they could put him to death.

Exodus 12:2 This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you.

The Biblical or Religious New Year begins at the moment of sunset at Jerusalem, on the evening of the first potentially visible crescent moon (Rosh Chodesh) beginning Day 1 of Month 1. The spring equinox is the demarcation point governing the solar cycle. A Biblical New Year can begin before or after the spring equinox.

The Sanhedrin of Israel is back in the news, March 2016. The Sanhedrin reconvened in 2005 after a 1,600 year absence. They oversee legal matters and future construction of the pending third temple.

http://www.heisnear.com/Sanhedrin.html

The Greek word for Sanhedrin is sunedrion. It is frequently translated as “Council” in the New Testament (Strong’s Concordance).

Who is/was the Sanhedrin? They are/were a group of 71 members. The group was made up of members from the Pharisees and Sadducees back in the day. The Sanhedrin was lead by the High Priest in the past (Holman Bible Dictionary).

This is the same Sanhedrin who illegally arrested, tried, and convicted Jesus (Luke 22:66, Mark 14:55-56). They pressured Pilate for Jesus’ death on a cross (Mark 15:1-15).

In another sense, they are not the same Sanhedrin of Jesus’s time. They now have their own website.

Exodus 12:2 This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you.

On March 10, 2016, a Biblical commandment that hasn’t been seen in 2,000 years was fulfilled. In the Cardo neighborhood of the Old City of Jerusalem, two witnesses stood before the Sanhedrin and gave testimony that established the beginning of the new month.

The point of the event is to correct the Hebrew calendar. There are contradictions between Hillel II’s calculations and calendar verses the astronomical reality of the sun, moon, and stars. The Sanhedrin is aware of the differences and is working to correct the issue.

Prior to declaring the new moon and new month, a Temple service was completed. Animal sacrifice was not included. But, the priests were in garments. A grain offering was burnt on the altar. Instruments and vessels were provided by the Temple Institute.

The Sanhedrin is slow to the party. There are people in Israel who have been identifying the new moon or Rosh Chodesh. How is a new moon or a new month determined? Jews have utilized the following procedure every month for thousands of years. It is called Rosh Chodesh which means “head of the month”. At the end of a lunar cycle, the moon is dark and is not seen for 2-3 days. So, the new moon could be identified during this 2-3 day period …of that day or hour no one knows…By definition, a new moon is proclaimed when the first little sliver emerges from a darkened moon. It is a tiny crescent that is noted briefly at sunset on the western horizon. The month begins at the sighting of the new moon. Two witnesses have to confirm the sighting. Upon agreement, the two witnesses report to the high priest. When the new moon is confirmed, the trumpet (shofar/ram’s horn) is blown.

There are people who are trained witnesses to identify the new moon. They are outside of Jerusalem when the moon goes dark and they are looking for the tiny sliver to emerge. If you are interested, see this website.

Birth of Jesus: City of Bethlehem, Address Migdal Eder

Posted in Christmas, Gospel, Prophecy with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on December 24, 2015 by paulthepoke

Micah 4:8 As for you, tower of the flock, hill of the daughter of Zion, to you it will come— even the former dominion will come, the kingdom of the daughter of Jerusalem.

Many believe this is the location and address of the birth of Jesus Christ. The address is the “tower of the flock”. In the original Hebrew, it is “migdal eder

Per Strong’s Concordance, migdal eder means: tower of the flock.

The following paragraph is from The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah, Alfred Edersheim.

At the time of the birth of Jesus, Migdal Eder was a specific place. It was the location where shepherds brought their sheep. The sheep were to be sacrificed at the Temple. These were not just any flock and herd. The shepherds who kept them were men who were specifically trained for this royal task. They were educated in what an animal that was to be sacrificed had to be and it was their job to make sure that none of the animals were hurt, damaged or blemished. During lambing season the sheep were brought to the tower from the fields, as the lower level functioned as the birthing room for sacrificial lambs. Being themselves under special rabbinical care, these priests would strictly maintain a ceremonially clean birthing place. Once birthed, the priestly shepherds would routinely place the lambs in the hewn depression of a limestone rock known as “the manger” and “wrap the newborn lambs in swaddling clothes,” preventing them from thrashing about and harming themselves “until they had calmed down” so they could be inspected for the quality of being “without spot or blemish”.

Custom of the day utilized swaddling cloths for newborn infants as well as sacrificial lambs. These cloths or bands were also used for restraining lambs prior to sacrifice. The swaddling bands held the lambs for inspection to insure they met the standard set forth in the law (Numbers 28:3, Exodus 12:1-6). The lambs were restrained to keep them from harming themselves and disqualifying them from sacrifice. Lambs had to be without blemish.

See also http://hethathasanear.com/Birth.html

Today, the exact location of Migdal Eder is speculation.

Luke 2:7 She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the village inn.

The angel had directions for the shepherds in the hills. Luke 2:12 “This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Notice, the shepherds did not need guidance. Migdal Eder was a destination. Any shepherd in the area knew the exact location. Directions were not necessary. These guys knew the specific address.

Luke 2:15 When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.”

Luke 2:16 So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.

Jesus, the Lamb of God, was born in the same location as sacrificial lambs for the Temple. Jesus was wrapped “snugly” in swaddling cloth like a sacrificial lamb for inspection.

As of August 2015, there is no current High Priest in Jerusalem, Israel. There is no Temple. There is much debate. Who will appoint the High Priest? Will the High Priest be appointed by the Sanhedrin, the Messiah, or the King?

http://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/994923/jewish/How-Is-a-High-Priest-Selected.htm

But…there is a High Priest. His name is Jesus. He is seated at the right hand of the Father in Heaven. Hebrews 8:1-2 Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister in the sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man.

Jesus is the King. 1 Timothy 6:14b-15 …until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which He will bring about at the proper time—He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords…

Jesus is the Messiah. John 20:31 But these are written so that you may believe Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and by believing you may have life in His name.

Trend Update: Temple Red Heifer, August 2015

Numbers 19:1-2 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, “This is the statute of the law which the Lord has commanded, saying, ‘Speak to the sons of Israel that they bring you an unblemished red heifer in which is no defect and on which a yoke has never been placed.

The Temple Institute is committed to raising a red heifer. Not just one, but raise a herd of red heifers. I guess it is time to throw numbers at the issue instead of waiting for one to be born and finding it. The Temple Institute has joined forces with a cattle rancher in Israel. They are going to apply the best of breeding techniques, genetics, and embryology. They are pursuing a red heifer.

redheifer

The Temple Institute will keep with Halachic Law (laws in accordance with Biblical Scripture). Where the Muslims have Sharia Law, the Jews have Halachic Law.

The ashes from the sacrifice of the red heifer are necessary for purification prior to the building of the Temple.

Let’s look at the qualifications of the red heifer per the Bible in Numbers 19:1-2.

Interpretation of verses provided by the Temple Institute. This is the criteria used for the identification of the red heifer.

…and take a heifer… Since the verse instructs us to take a heifer, we do not purchase a calf and wait for it to grow older while in our custody; “and take a heifer” means that the act of acquisition has to take place while the animal is a heifer. However, if a red calf is available, a price can be set with its owner, and the transaction can be concluded, but we do not take possession until it reaches the proper age as mandated by the Bible.

A heifer by definition is a female cow.

…an unblemished red heifer in which is no defect…This means that the presence of as few as two hairs of any other color will render it invalid. Even its hooves must be red. It must also be totally free from any physical blemish or defect, whether internal or external. A list of blemishes that would disqualify the animal for sacrifice are noted in Leviticus 22.

…on which a yoke has never been placed. The red heifer must have never been used to perform any physical labor. This would include riding, or even leaning on her. But if a yoke were placed upon her even once, even if she were not used to plow – this would be enough to render the heifer unfit for use.

Three to four years of age is an oral tradition that has been passed down through the generations.

Shavuot/Pentecost, Part 1

Posted in Gospel, Pentecost/Shavuot/Feast of Weeks, Prophecy with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 17, 2015 by paulthepoke

Leviticus 23:15-16 ‘You shall also count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day when you brought in the sheaf of the wave offering; there shall be seven complete Sabbaths. You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall present a new grain offering to the Lord.

SONY DSC

Other provisions for the holiday include two loaves of bread, sacrificial lambs, a bull, two rams, a goat, and a drink offering of wine. The holiday is also a day of rest with no work (Leviticus 23:17-21).

In the Old Testament and in the Hebrew, this holiday is referred to as Shavuot. The word means: weeks.

Shavuot is one of the three holidays where Jewish men are required to come to Jerusalem (Exodus 23:14-17). The men were to make their presentation and sacrifice before God at the Temple.

As stated in the Leviticus passage, it is seven weeks after Passover. It is a celebration of the completed grain harvest. The holiday is also a celebration of God giving the Torah (instruction or law) to nation Israel. Because of this, Shavuot is considered as the beginning or birth of Judaism.

The Law was given on Mount Sinai roughly 1,500 years before Christ. Nation Israel honored this holiday every year. Eating and drinking dairy products are part of the celebration of Shavuot. Many think the custom of dairy products is in reference to Bible verses referring to a promised land flowing with milk and honey. An example is Exodus 3:8a “So I have come down to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey…

http://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/why-dairy-on-shavuot/

Fast forward to 33 AD. Nation Israel is celebrating and living the holiday. Acts 2:1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they (apostles) were all together in one place. In the Greek New Testament, Shavuot (Hebrew) is translated as Pentekoste (Greek). Per Strong’s Concordance, it means: the fiftieth day; the second of the three great Jewish feasts, celebrated at Jerusalem yearly, the seventh week after the Passover, in grateful recognition of the completed harvest. We have transliterated the word to Pentecost (English).

This is the day promised by Jesus of the giving of the Holy Spirit. John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. It is seven weeks after the death of the sacrificial lamb, Jesus. Shavuot or Pentecost is also the day God the Father gave the Holy Spirit. Because of this, Pentecost is considered the beginning or the birth of the church (believers in Jesus Christ).

http://www.hebrew4christians.com/Holidays/Spring_Holidays/Shavuot/shavuot.html

Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit…”

Exodus 29:38-42 Now this is what you shall offer on the altar: two one year old lambs each day, continuously. The one lamb you shall offer in the morning and the other lamb you shall offer at twilight…

boundlamb

There are two sacrifices per day. One is in the morning and one is in the afternoon at twilight. The daily sacrifices (morning and evening) are to be given with a bread and wine offering (Exodus 29:40-42). The daily offering directions are restated in Numbers 28:1-8.

This sacrifice is to be done continuously or tamid in the Hebrew. Per Strong’s Concordance, tamid means: continuity, perpetuity, to stretch, continually, continuously (as adverb).

The book of Acts offers a clue as to the time of the evening sacrifice. Acts 3:1 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the ninth hour, the hour of prayer. To the Hebrew, the ninth hour of daylight is 3 p.m. in the afternoon. The hour of prayer was also the time of the afternoon sacrifice (Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews; Mishnah ; Philo of Alexandria).

For more detail regarding the timing of twilight, see the link below.

http://paulthepoke.com/2015/03/31/passover-nisan-14-twilight-33-ad-part-1/

The Hebrew word for “morning” is boqer. Per Strong’s, it means: morning, break of day; of end of night; of coming of daylight; of coming of sunrise; of beginning of day; of bright joy after night of distress (fig.).

This is the same word on day one, in the beginning…Genesis 1:5 God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.

A specific time is not indicated in the Bible for the specific time of the morning sacrifice. Extra Biblical sources such as Josephus, Philo, and the Mishnah (oral teaching of the Mosaic Law) indicate the morning, daily sacrifice took place at the third hour of daylight or 9 a.m.

Moving forward roughly 1,500 years from Moses and the Law. The day is Nisan 14, 33 AD. Mark 15:25 It was the third hour when they crucified Him.

Mark 15:34, 37 At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?” which is translated, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?” And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last.

The crucifixion started at the third hour of daylight or 9 a.m. He died at the ninth hour of daylight or 3 p.m. These are the same times as the perpetual sacrifice as directed by God to Moses in Exodus 29 and Numbers 28.

While Christ was on the cross, the oral teachings (Mishnah) and prayers of the priests in the Temple focused on four topics: redemption, forgiveness, the coming of the Messiah, and the resurrection of the dead. The priests and people prayed these topics every day at the time of the morning and evening sacrifice.

http://www.thesacredpage.com/2010/04/jewish-roots-of-jesus-passion-and-death.html

The directions and ritual of the continual, daily sacrifice from the Mosaic Law scream, “JESUS”!

Jesus’ death on the cross is the perpetual and eternal sacrifice for all of time. Sin happens every day. Today in the church age, we commemorate His death by communion with the elements of bread and wine. His death is the tamid sacrifice for sin.

Trend Update: Temple Stone Altar, March 2015

Exodus 20:25 If you make an altar of stone for Me, you shall not build it of cut stones, for if you wield your tool on it, you will profane it.

Deuteronomy 27:5 Moreover, you shall build there an altar to the LORD your God, an altar of stones; you shall not wield an iron tool on them.

altar-model-10

These are the directions given to Moses by God.

Fast forward to the 21st century…These directions have been followed again. The Temple Institute has recently announced the completion of the stone altar for sacrificial service. The Mosaic Law has been followed accordingly. Stones from the remote shores of the Dead Sea were gathered from this location. The stones have not been touched by iron equipment, cut, or quarried. The stones were wrapped in plastic to protect them from being touched by iron. Workers completed their labor barefoot.

The completed altar is versatile. It can be assembled and reassembled easily. The altar is currently on display at the Temple Institute. When the time comes, the altar can be moved to the reconstructed Temple.

Joshua followed the directions given per Moses when he built an altar.

Joshua 8:31 just as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded the sons of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of uncut stones on which no man had wielded an iron tool; and they offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.

In the days of King Solomon, the law was followed and the altar was built accordingly.

1 Kings 6:7 The house, while it was being built, was built of stone prepared at the quarry, and there was neither hammer nor axe nor any iron tool heard in the house while it was being built.

When the Israelites returned to Jerusalem after their exile from King Cyrus of Persia, they too built an altar. The construction of the altar was led by a high priest named Jeshua. Incidentally, Jeshua is the Jewish name for Jesus who is our High Priest.

Ezra 3:2 Then Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brothers the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and his brothers arose and built the altar of the God of Israel to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the law of Moses, the man of God.

The precedent has been set to start sacrifices without a temple. This was the case in the book of Ezra.

Ezra 3:6 From the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the LORD, but the foundation of the temple of the LORD had not been laid.

The seventh month on a Hebrew calendar is Tishri. This first day would be the beginning of the Civic New Year. We know it as Rosh Hashanah or the Feast of Trumpets. It is also known as the Yom Teruah. This year on our Gregorian calendar, the holiday begins at sunset September 14, 2015.

Who knows? Maybe the sacrificial system on the new altar will be initiated again this year, this fall, on this day…
