Gabriel’s 70 Weeks: Why 70 Weeks? Part 2

Posted in #PaulthePoke, Angels, Prophecy with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 15, 2020 by paulthepoke

Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city

God knew from the beginning of Israel being a nation, ultimately they would not let the land rest. Israel was commanded to let the land rest in Leviticus 25:1-5.

God let Israel know. If the land is not allowed to rest from your activity, then God would make sure the land would rest. The consequence of disobedience was prophetic.

Leviticus 26:34-35 Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbaths all the days it lies desolate, while you are in the land of your enemies. At that time the land will rest and enjoy its Sabbaths. As long as it lies desolate, the land will have the rest it did not receive during the Sabbaths when you lived in it.

Later, the concept is stated again.

Leviticus 26:43 But the land shall be abandoned by them and enjoy its Sabbaths while it lies desolate without them, and they shall make amends for their iniquity, because they spurned my rules and their soul abhorred my statutes.

God communicated His Law to Moses around 1446 BC as estimated by Biblical scholars.

By historical accounts, the practice of ignoring the land’s Sabbath rest began around the time of Samuel the prophet and judge around 1100 BC. Israel continued to farm for economic purposes and development. It did not make economic sense to let the land rest.

Fast forward to the prophet Jeremiah circa 627-580 BC.

In Jeremiah 25, the prophet is warning Judah and the city of Jerusalem. Because of your disobedience, 70 years of captivity are coming.

Jeremiah 25:11-12 This whole land shall become a ruin and a waste, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. Then after seventy years are completed, I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity, declares the LORD, making the land an everlasting waste.

Keep in mind, Daniel was already in Babylon in 605 BC under King Nebuchadnezzar’s first captivity of Jerusalem. Daniel was protected by God who knew the future of Jerusalem. Daniel was acutely aware of Jeremiah’s prophecy.

Daniel 9:2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, perceived in the books the number of years that, according to the word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet, must pass before the end of the desolations of Jerusalem, namely, seventy years.

In 586 BC, Jeremiah’s prophetic words would come to pass. Babylon under Nebuchadnezzar would capture and utterly destroy Jerusalem. Historians and commentators indicate the actual date was on the 9th of Av. A day which has become a national day of mourning for Israel.

2 Chronicles 36:20-21 He took into exile in Babylon those who had escaped from the sword, and they became servants to him and to his sons until the establishment of the kingdom of Persia, to fulfill the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed its Sabbaths. All the days that it lay desolate it kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years.

Now, there is the matter of Leviticus 26 and God’s consistent statement, I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

70 x 7 = 490

Israel’s punishment is not complete.

The Fall of the Arrogant… Joshua of Ghana

TEXT: ISAIAH 10:1-19

“And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?” (Isaiah 10:3)

@beholy404

Arrogant and godless man is infirm and helpless in the face of the fury of the elements such as when there is a severe earthquake or a devastating hurricane that comes with massive flooding. Trees are uprooted, buildings are brought down and entire heavily-populated settlements are swept away. We look small and present a pitiable sight when these disasters visit us.

If man can scarcely survive the onslaught of nature, how will he stand the greater fury of the Almighty? That was the message the Lord had for the people of Judah, Israel and Assyria in the days of Isaiah the prophet when they had all gone astray. The kings and governments made laws that alienated the weak of the society from their right to the good things of the land. They also worshipped idols to whom they ascribed their successes, prompting the Lord to ask derisively: “Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith?”

God declared a two-prong war against two nations. He would use Assyria as “the rod of [His] anger” to judge Samaria for forsaking the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and going after idols which had left the children of Israel vulnerable in the hands of its enemies. But the Lord said He would follow that up with a punitive action on Assyria which arrogantly assumed that its prowess was responsible for its successful military campaign in Israel.

Today all that is left of the great Assyrian Empire are stone relics, a testimony to the fulfilment of God’s promise to “punish the… stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks”. God’s action on Assyria’s pride was because the land refused to acknowledge Him as the Source of its power. Divine judgment led to its extinction. It symbolically foreshadows the eternal judgment that awaits unrepentant sinners who trust in themselves.

*THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:* Extinction follows rejection of God.

I am no better than the person holding the sign on the corner asking for help. I am no better than the person in the person in the public records in the paper that was arrested. I am no better than the person that is a different race than me. I am no better than the person that has a different sexual orientation than me. I am no better than anyone. Stop treating others different & like they are less just because they are different.

Honest Scales, Part 1… Rodna Epley

Posted in #PaulthePoke, Rodna Epley with tags , , , , , , on November 10, 2020 by paulthepoke

Using “honest scales” as Jesus always did will bring an end to any suffering and transform it into light, meaning the good thing that is desired will manifest.

Just before Jesus healed the paralytic man, He told him, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” Everyone knew the intent for letting down the paralyzed man through the roof to where Jesus was preaching. It was for physical healing, so that the paralyzed man could walk. Yet the first thing Jesus said to the man after He saw their faith was that the man’s sins were forgiven.

The scribes who were sitting near Jesus began reasoning amongst themselves saying, “Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

Jesus knew that what He said would provoke the scribes. In fact, He was setting everyone up to receive the revelation of who He is and what He could do for them. Those who did not have “ears to hear” would by consequence be further blinded. When light enters a room, it exposes everything. That which is exposed will become light unless it chooses to run into the shadows with the darkness. Jesus was about to prove the Father was working through Him and gave Him the authority on earth to forgive sins.

So Jesus pulls out the “honest scales”. When we weigh something, we know its value. If we place oranges on the scale at the grocery store we can estimate its value by its weight and then we can purchase it if we have enough money. The same is true for spiritual things. If we don’t know what something weighs, then we place it on God’s honest scales and we know if we have enough faith to purchase it, so to speak. This is what Jesus did during the scene with the paralyzed man and the scribes.

Jesus said to the paralytic, “Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’?” (vs 9). The obvious answer is that it’s easier to say “Your sins are forgiven you” because you don’t have to prove that. In fact, you can’t prove that unless you can weigh it somehow.

Forgiveness is invisible and can’t be physically proven except to the person who is forgiven. He has a peace radiating within him and all around him instantly upon being forgiven. The weight of unforgiveness, which can be felt, is lifted off of him. There is also proof of forgiveness in the way that life begins to transform, but physically proving someone has been forgiven is perhaps impossible. Unless forgiveness can be measured.

Jesus does measure it by answering His own question. It’s easier to say “Your sins are forgiven” since it can’t be easily proven. So Jesus says what is more difficult to say, which must be proven, “Rise up, take up your bed and walk.”

Since only God can make someone rise up and walk when they are paralyzed, when the man rose up and walked in front of all who were in the room, the revelation that Jesus could also forgive sins dropped into the minds of those who chose to remain in the light, those who had ears to hear God. For those who were hard-pressed against Jesus from the start, they remained blind and the revelation did not drop in.

Blood Red Iskitimka River, Kemerovo, Russia, November 2020

Revelation 16:4 Then the third angel poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of waters; and they became blood.

Iskitimka River, Kemerovo, Russia, November 7, 2020: Contamination has lead to the Iskitimka River turning red. Kemerovo is a city in southwest Siberia, Russia. Kemerovo is an industrial city of about 500,000. The culprit appears to be a chemically clogged sewage drain… allegedly.

Experts are not sure if the river is hazardous to the health of the citizens.

Below are some quotes from locals.

“There are no ducks in the river, all are on the bank,” Andrey German, citizen.

“The city storm drainage system is a possible source of contaminated water,” Deputy Governor Andrei Panov, Kemerovo.

“Today it is not a river, it is like cranberry jelly,” Elena Dubrovskaya, citizen.

The Revelation 16 verse is late in the order of the seven year Tribulation. Currently, we are not in the tribulation.

This event is the result of a clogged sewage drain spilling into a river in Siberia. None the less, the river is red. The critic can not explain it away.

Blind, But Now I See… Christine McDonald

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost
But now am found
Was blind but now I see.
—John Newton, “Amazing Grace”

Are you a glass half full or a glass half empty person? Do you look at that glass and feel panic and awareness that it’s nearly empty, or do you look at the glass and celebrate that you still have half of it left? Perspective is everything.

When we consider the battles we face in life, our victories can often be attributed to our attitude even more than the outcome of the situation. It is normal for some crises to initially overwhelm us, but we don’t have to stay there in that place.

Jesus gave us a perfect example when He faced the cross. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He called out to the Father in anguish, knowing His time was nearly over. He says, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me.…”(Luke 22:42, NIV) He shows us that it isn’t a sin to wish away our circumstances for a moment. However, He doesn’t leave it there. He goes on in the same verse to say, “Yet not my will, but yours be done.” He reconciles Himself to God’s great will for His life, for the sake of all of humanity.

The same is true for you. We may not always understand why something happens, but we can be assured that God has a plan for our lives that includes every circumstance we encounter.

Paul found God’s perfect peace by loosening his grip on every fleshly aspect of life and holding on tightly to Christ alone. In Philippians 4:12–13, he writes, “I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (NLT)

At the end of the day, our personal relationship to the One who made us is truly all that matters. God loves us so much that He will allow a shift in our comfort zones so that we might find Him and draw nearer to Him. What will it take for Him to fully and completely win your heart?

Ecclesiastes 3:1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven…

Michael Douville is weighing in on current economic conditions. Check out what he has to say.

Is Inflation finally coming? Inflation has been benign for over a decade. There appears to be Inflation in the Basic materials that will percolate through the Economy. Residential Rentals can be a terrific Inflation hedge.

Real Estate has an 18.5 year cycle that repeats with surprising regularity. Is the Cycle about to slow just before the years long “Explosive Phase”? Does this represent a buying opportunity? Real Estate, particularly in the Great Markets of the US, represents a very very compelling and Cash Flow generating investment. To be involved: michael@michaeldouville.com, 602-942-4200

1 Peter 2:13-17 Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.

Comments from featured writer Paul Beverly.

2020 has definitely been the craziest & most trying year for all of us I’m sure. I’ve definitely struggled more than ever financially & at times emotionally.

With November here, I am focusing on the good in my life & the good to come & I’m definitely thankful. I’m believing that this year will end in a big upswing for us all & that next year will be a much better year.

Praying this election won’t separate us & that we realize we need each other more than who we want to be president.

Join me in being thankful for what we have & focusing on the good in our lives! -Paul Beverly

Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil

On Tuesday, November 3, 2020, we the people of the United States have the freedom and duty to participate in the election of our leaders. We have been granted the free will to choose our leaders. Be a part of the process. Go Vote!!!

And when it is all said and done…

1 Peter 2:17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.

Gabriel’s 70 Weeks: Why 70 Weeks? Part 1

Posted in #PaulthePoke, Angels, Prophecy with tags , , , , , on November 1, 2020 by paulthepoke

Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city

Why were 70 sets of 7 or 70 weeks set aside for Israel and Jerusalem? On the surface, this seems rather arbitrary. Don’t kid yourself, God has a purpose and a reason. And He sent the angel Gabriel to tell Daniel.

The issue is Israel’s response to God’s Law. Moses recorded the following.

Leviticus 25:1-5 Then the LORD said to Moses on Mount Sinai, “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: When you enter the land that I am giving you, the land itself must observe a Sabbath to the LORD. For six years you may sow your field and prune your vineyard and gather its crops. But in the seventh year there shall be a Sabbath of complete rest for the land, a Sabbath to the LORD. You are not to sow your field or prune your vineyard. You are not to reap the aftergrowth of your harvest or gather the grapes of your untended vines. The land must have a year of complete rest.

The concept is straight forward. The land can be worked and farmed for six consecutive years. But, the land is to rest on the seventh year. That means no tilling, sowing, working, planting or pruning. Let the land rest.

This pattern of rest was initiated in God’s creation week. On the seventh day, God Himself rested.

Genesis 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts. By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

God is beyond fair and an effective communicator. He gives the good news first. If Israel followed His directions, there would be significant benefit for the nation. God’s blessings for obedience are written in Leviticus 26:1-13. These national blessings have yet to be realized by Israel but will come to fruition during the Millennial Kingdom and into eternity under the leadership of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

On the flip side, there are negative consequences for disobedience. Israel’s prophetic rebellious history is laid out with God’s response in Leviticus 26:14-39.

Multiple times God warns of the consequences of the nation’s disobedience.

Leviticus 26:14-16a But if you do not obey Me and do not carry out all these commandments, if, instead, you reject My statutes, and if your soul abhors My ordinances so as not to carry out all My commandments, and so break My covenant, I, in turn, will do this to you:

Look at the verbs in the initial statement by God in reference to Israel’s conditional attitude and actions.

  1. Do not obey
  2. do not carry out
  3. reject
  4. abhors
  5. not carry out
  6. break

Leviticus 26:18 ‘If also after these things you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

Leviticus 26:21 If then, you act with hostility against Me and are unwilling to obey Me, I will increase the plague on you seven times according to your sins.

Leviticus 26:23-24 And if by these things you are not turned to Me, but act with hostility against Me, then I will act with hostility against you; and I, even I, will strike you seven times for your sins.

Leviticus 26:27-28 Yet if in spite of this you do not obey Me, but act with hostility against Me, then I will act with wrathful hostility against you, and I, even I, will punish you seven times for your sins.

Above are 10 different examples of prophetic disobedience in the text.

10 X 7 for your sins = 70.

God is telling Israel, if you disobey and act with hostility… not only is this your consequence, this is your course of history.

To be continued…
