Mother’s Day, 2026

Luke 1:41-44 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For as soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.

the baby leaped… baby or βρέφος/brephos; an unborn or newborn child, infant.

Notice, the term is not called a ball of cells or a fetus. Luke, through the Holy Spirit, chose the term “baby” as translated in English.

Scripture is very consistent. Babies are formed in mother’s wombs. Scripture also points out that wombs are located in mothers. In our 21st century culture, it is necessary to point out these fundamental truths.

Granted, there are elements within our society who would like you to believe these are little clumps of cells that happen to be inside of a woman. Critics and experts in reproductive health would have you believe life does not begin until the fetus is outside of the woman’s body. Some of these reproductive experts take motherhood and life away from women. Scripture says something contrary to the culture and women’s reproductive experts.

Two times in the verses above, babies leaped for joy. Babies were capable of hearing and understanding what was going on outside of the womb. Babies also had a physical and emotional response to what they were hearing from outside of the womb. In both cases, joy was expressed.

Happy Mother’s Day

Remember, the fruit of the womb is a blessing. Let us give thanks to the women in our lives who chose to be a mom. These women chose our lives.

Here is to all the moms out there wishing you a Happy Mother’s Day!

Ecclesiastes 11:5 As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the bones are formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.

Covenant, Gospel, Grace, Faith – Phil Kulis Series

Posted in #PaulthePoke, Phil Kulis with tags , , , , on January 28, 2026 by paulthepoke

𝐈𝐧 𝐀𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬, 𝐀 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐭… was a strong agreement and commitment between two leaders representing different groups of people. These two are the “covenant representatives”.

In the “cutting of a covenant” there was a ceremony where an animal was cut into two pieces, then the pieces were separated by a short distance on the ground. The covenant representatives would then walk among the pieces getting the animal’s blood on their shoes and clothes while reciting the terms of the covenant to each other. They would also say to each other “If I ever break this covenant by not upholding and remaining faithful to my promise, let what has happened to this animal happen to me.” Death was the penalty for breaking the terms of the covenant.

So long as the representatives kept the covenant, all under them experienced peace. But if the representatives broke the covenant and go to war, all those under them subject to the covenant are also at war. It doesn’t matter what the subjects do, it’s all about what the covenant representatives do.

All who are under their leadership were subject to the representative upholding the terms of the covenant. If the representatives remained at peace with each other, then those represented by them were also at peace. This is where the concept of a “peace treaty” comes from.

A covenant is a lifelong commitment. The terms of the covenant were in effect until the death of one of the representatives. Death was also the penalty for breaking the covenant. Death was the only way to be released from the oath and obligation of the covenant.

There are therefore two paths to the exit from a covenant, breaking it or keeping it. But both paths lead to Death.

Two elegant wedding rings, one gold and one silver, resting on a soft background.

𝐀 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐞… between a man and woman is also recognized as a covenant. A wedding is a covenant ceremony where vows are exchanged, “…forsaking all others, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do we part.”

A marriage covenant should therefore not be entered into lightly. So long as those in covenant remain faithful the covenant remains intact. Sadly, as many as half of marriage covenants are broken.

If a man and woman in a marriage covenant produce offspring and one of their offspring commits a sin, that sin by the offspring has no power to affect the terms of the covenant between the parents. That sin only affects the offspring, the offspring’s spouse, and their descendants. The effects of sin go downstream.

If one of the parents breaks the covenant with the other by not being faithful to their vows then not just the parents, but all the downstream offspring of the parents are forever affected by being under their broken covenant. If the parents remain faithful to each other until one dies “until death do they part” then all involved in the covenant; representatives and downstream, are eternal beneficiaries of that intact covenant. “It is finished.”

If one of the covenant representatives dies while remaining faithful, then the other representative is released, set free from that covenant. They are free to enter into a different covenant if they choose to.

John 15:18-20 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. -Jesus

Followers of Jesus will be persecuted, said Jesus.

Here is the standard and expectation according to Scripture.

Mark 12:31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Romans 12:14-21 Bless those who persecute you. Bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but associate with the lowly. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Carefully consider what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible on your part, live at peace with everyone. Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.” On the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

This does not mean stand around and get slaughtered. We have the right to defend ourselves. As Christians, we should not be aggressive towards others and seeking violent conflict. Retaliation and vengeance belong to God. But we can protect and defend ourselves.

Luke 22:36 He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.

Ezekiel 38:1-2 Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him…

We know Magog and Rosh as modern day Russia. President Putin is talking radioactive tsunamis.

Here is a friendly PSA from us at PaulthePoke. There are two genders. There is man. And there is woman. For those of you who are scientifically inclined. There is XY, a man. There is XX, a woman. Genesis 5:2 He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created.

Matthew 19:4 Jesus answered, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’

Mother’s Day, 2023

Ephesians 6:2-3: Honor your father and mother (this is the first commandment with a promise), that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.

Mother: μήτηρ, métér. Simply translated “Mother“. She is a biological female. There is no debate or defense of the term in regards to gender or pronoun.

Words have consistent meaning. There is an unstated social contract and understanding we all agree to when we communicate. If words did not have consistent meaning, the end result would be confusion. To fundamentally change the meaning of basic terminology and semantics results in confusion and break down in social order. We are watching this happen in today’s American society and culture. And who is the author of confusion?

It is a “Mother“, a woman, who has the biological anatomy of a womb. The woman is associated with the womb, not the man. There are countless verses that state this fact over and over.

We are made by God. He created each one of us for a purpose. All of us are here for reason and meaning. We arrived because a “Mother” was our vehicle into this world. This is God’s way and order.

Ecclesiastes 11:5 As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the bones are formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.

Psalm 139:13 For You created my innermost parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb.

Jesus, the Creator of the universe, recognizes his Mother, Mary, a woman. Both sexes, woman and men, are recognized in the verse below by Christ.

Matthew 12:49 And extending His hand toward His disciples, He said, “Behold: My mother and My brothers!

~

Locals recognized that Mary, a woman, was Jesus’ mother. And there are brothers or men mentioned in the verse.

Matthew 13:55 Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas?

~

I understand the verse below will likely severely trigger popular culture. The verse will differentiate a biological woman, a biological man, and invoke the Spirit of God. Plus, marriage between a woman and a man is defined. Notice, it is also the woman, a mother, that carries and ultimately brings the Child to birth and into the world.

Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.

And for those of you who are openly hostile and frankly nasty towards your parents… After all, they took care of you when you were a mere infant, a helpless baby. They sheltered you. They clothed you. They fed you. And they wiped your butt and cleaned you after you defecated all over your bad little self.

You may disagree with your parents and that is fine. It is okay to disagree. Learn to disagree with civility. Drop the angry, destructive attitude. But, take some time to reflect and show some respect.

Whether you believe in God or not does not change the fact He (note the pronoun) is real and He (pronoun) means what He (pronoun) says. He (pronoun) is merciful and gracious towards those who change their attitude and heart. But stay on the path of a dishonorable mindset…

Proverbs 20:20 If one curses his father or his mother, his lamp will be put out in utter darkness.

Leviticus 20:9 For anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother; his blood is upon him.

To all the Mothers, women, we salute you and thank you. Happy Mother’s Day!

July 13, 2022: State of the culture, United States of America. Compare and contrast.

Genesis 5:1-2 This is the book of the generations of Adam. On the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female, and He blessed them and named them “mankind” on the day when they were created.

John 16:21 When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.

Isaiah 30:18 Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you; therefore He rises to show you compassion, for the LORD is a just God. Blessed are all who wait for Him.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance.

International Women’s Day: That’s What She Said…

Posted in Culture, Trend Update with tags , on March 9, 2017 by paulthepoke

Contributing Author Maggie S.

In recognition of International Women’s Day, I would like to direct attention to women in third world nations who are treated like animals and worse. There are dozens of organizations which daily lead in efforts to aid and support our sisters around the world who are oppressed (if only there were a stronger word). From clean water to reproductive health and freedom of worship, to the freedom to be treated with dignity and know her girl child will not be sold into prostitution, but can receive a full education and live the life she chooses–women of many developing nations face insecure daily circumstances. To these women we owe a debt of care and nurture. One that cannot be addressed by assigning a day to acknowledge the plight, only to go back to forgetting them on a day that is not assigned. I strongly encourage a connection with a quality organization to minister to the souls of the mothers, sisters, and daughters of the developing world.

However, I also feel a responsibility to point out that as an elderly female of the United States of America, there hasn’t been one day of my life that my ability to exceed, excel, and develop my identity has ever been oppressed in the slightest degree due to my womanhood. I feel as though I received the respect due my effort and achievements. When that has not been the case, it has been a personal slight and in no way indicative of systemic prejudice against women, but boorish behavior and poor home training of the other party (and usually at the hands of another woman).

I challenge the older women of the United States to take the lead in teaching the younger generation…to walk in the dignity of their station…to be generous to those who have less than they…to carry themselves with discretion and self-respect in the area of sexual expression…to demonstrate that we are not kept down by men, but that we are achieving our work while making theirs possible.

We honor women everywhere by being women of honor, dignity, generosity, self-respect, creativity, vulnerability, tenderness, genuineness, self-control, teachability, and nurture as God designed.
