We the church are now and forever like Eve in that narrow moment of time after she ate (sinned) yet before Adam disobeyed God by eating.
Even though we have sinned, we are protected by Christโs perfect obedience to the Covenant of Sin and Death which is finished, permanently and eternally sealed by His blood. Itโs over.
Jesus, the Seed of the Woman, is the Kinsman Redeemer. The Keeper of the Covenant. The Accepted Substitute. Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!
The term โgraceโ is often used but rarely defined therefore not fully understood. Itโs a state of being, a status. Some say itโs โgetting what we donโt deserveโ. But thatโs not a state of being.
To demonstrate, it helps to consider the opposite of grace which is; disgrace. If someone is a disgrace it means they have committed some sort of serious error, totally inappropriate for the circumstances. Disgrace becomes their status because of what they did. It cannot be undone because you canโt change the past.
With that in mind, โgraceโ can be defined as โthe delightful beauty of saying, doing, being, everything right in every circumstance.โ
The adjective โgracefulโ can be seen in an athlete who performs an extraordinary feat, such as a football player who catches an almost impossible pass and makes it look easy. Or a ballerina who moves with such fluidity that it seems purely effortless and natural. Poetry in motion. Itโs not our actions, but theirs. We are โfansโ, beneficiaries of their performance.
Sometimes a person of royalty is honored with the respectful title of โYour Graceโ.
When you plug that understanding into the Bible wherever the word โgraceโ is used it blossoms with meaning.
Jesus is the personification of the grace of God. He said, did, and was, everything right in every circumstance. His words and His actions were in perfect harmony with His Fatherโs will; Love, which culminated in a singularly unique accomplishment.
Itโs not a matter of Him giving us grace for ourselves, but that when we believe โinโ Him we behave like Him. Itโs His grace.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it (grace) is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Jesus is the personification of grace, He is the gift of God from God.
What does it mean to believe โinโ Jesus? By simply asking the question of do we believe โinโ Jesus or โoutโ of Jesus we find the answer. Itโs not enough to just believe He existed. When we believe โoutโ of Jesus weโre walking in darkness. We must be willing to come out of the darkness of our disgrace and shame to walk in the Light of His grace, allowing the Fatherโs will be done on earth ๐กโ๐๐๐ข๐โ ๐ข๐ , just as Jesus did the will of His Father.
John 3:20-21 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.
When we are โinโ Him we are in His grace of the New and Everlasting Covenant. Itโs His grace that is the gift of God. Itโs not our efforts โworksโ that finished the covenant. It was His.
So why is the arrival of the God/Man such good news? The kingdom of God has come. God and Man are rejoined. God has come in person to accomplish it. But the barrier of sin must be dealt with.
The Greek philosopher Socrates made a very insightful observation. He said to his student Plato, โIt may be that the Deity can forgive sins, but I do not see how.โ
The problem of sin is, how can God forgive it? If God just dismisses it, then itโs not really sin and God would be a liar. If God forgave some people and not others then God is unfair and playing favorites therefore a hypocrite. Sin must be justly dealt with.
If someone is punished for sin, then they suffer for themselves. Thatโs not forgiveness. Neither can forgiveness come by another person taking someone elseโs punishment because โall have sinned, fall short of the glory of Godโ and deserve their own punishment. For forgiveness to happen, there must be a sinless substitute to accept the judgment and condemnation of death.
Everyone is born under the broken covenant of Adam. So there is no suitable sinless substitute, even among all the animals. Remember what happened when God brought all the animals to Adam? โBut for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.โ This is why animal sacrifice is insufficient and not permanent. But it did point to what would come.
The God/man is different and unique, yet at the same time a comparable helper. He was not born under the broken covenant of a man, because he was fathered from outside the covenant of Adam. He was the only other man directly begotten by God, yet unlike Adam He was also God. Because the Woman Eve was not the representative of the first covenant, her Seed โthe Seed of the Womanโ would be qualified, but the seed of the Man would not. Because Jesus is born of a woman, He is related to us. He is the Kinsman Redeemer.
Jesus lived a sinless life. His only purpose was to remain obedient to doing His Fatherโs will. Godโs will is known by His Ten Commandments which are summarized as โLove God, Love One Another.โ Jesusโs only desire was to remain obedient to His Father.
Jesus remained obedient to all the Law to demonstrate His humanity, and performed miracles to demonstrate His divinity.
As with Adam, the forces of darkness tried to get Jesus to fail in remaining obedient. He was tempted. (The devil tried to get Him to eat while He was fasting, to commit the same sin as Adam). He was ridiculed and falsely accused. He was arrested and tortured. They eventually killed Him with an excruciating death on the cross. But through it all He remained obedient to His Father. They couldnโt get Him to disobey God. He kept the terms of the Covenant even unto the exit, which is death. This is why He declared with His dying breath โIt is finishedโ.
The punishment for breaking covenant is separation from God and that separation is death. The exit from the covenant is death. Because Jesus remained obedient to God until death He didnโt deserve death. He was the only one to ever accomplish this. Therefore death has no legal claim on Him. Ever. Itโs why He was resurrected.
Romans 6:9 โฆknowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him.
His perfect obedience canโt be undone. He fulfilled the covenant of obedience to God and exited the covenant. It was the path which was known only by Him that โTo conquer death you only have to die.โ
If Adam hadnโt eaten the forbidden fruit he would have been the Savior because nothing happened to Eve and Eve is the mother of all living. Adam could have interceded for her and God could forgive her. All downstream from them would have been protected by Adamโs obedience. However, there would always remain the possibility of Adam disobeying. Mankind would be eternally vulnerable, totally dependent on his obedience. The words โIt is finishedโ could never have been spoken so long as Adam remained alive.
Jesus was killed for His obedience. His perfect obedience is permanently sealed in His blood. There is now no risk or vulnerability of disobedience by the New Covenant Representative.
Romans 8:1-2 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death
He alone paid the price of death which was undeserved. He completed the covenant and exited it. Because His death, which is separation from God is undeserved, He has conquered death not just for Himself but all who are under the New Covenant.
Romans 5:18-19 Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
Matthew 18:6-7 But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world for the causes of sin. These stumbling blocks must come, but woe to the man through whom they come!

First of all, as many Christians are acutely aware, animal sacrifices for sin are no longer required. However, these things are still prophesied. After all, the antichrist needs a Temple to defile.
To be clear, the red heifer is the symbol or type. Jesus Christ is the real deal, the fulfillment.

The ritual preparation of the red heifer follows precise steps laid out in the Bible and further elaborated by the Sages. The completely red cow, which must never have had a yoke placed upon it, is slaughtered and burned entirelyโhide, flesh, blood, and dungโalong with cedar wood, hyssop, and crimson thread. The ashes are then collected and mixed with spring water to create the mei niddah (waters of separation). This mixture is used in a specific sprinkling ritual: a kohen dips a bundle of hyssop into the water and sprinkles it on the impure person on the third and seventh days of their purification period. Only after this double sprinkling and the passage of seven days can someone defiled by contact with death enter the Temple precincts.

Larry Borntrager is a non-Jew who has been caring for the red heifers in Shiloh. On July 1, one of the red heifers was burned in Samaria. As the heifers do not have ear tags or brands, they can only be identified by someone who knows them intimately, and the only person who does is Larry. Some people claim that the cow with an injured and shortened tail was intended for the practice burning, but refused to get onto the truck. These people claim that a “perfect cow” boarded the truck instead, and that the practice of burning was actually kosher, using a cow suited for the red heifer ceremony. Christโs sacrifice is not only for the people of Israel, but for all the people of the world. He is the sacrifice for all sin for all time.

Mankind has now endured the rise and fall of empires, wars, adversity, and death. A new nation was formed by God through the faith of one man, Abraham. That nation was given Godโs Laws, a land to live in, and the Promise of a Redeemer.
Within that nation a young virgin is approached by an angel with a message that according to prophecy she would conceive by the Holy Spirit a child and His name would be called Immanuel, which translated means โGod with usโ. She consented.
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
This child from the Virgin is the only direct creation from God since the first man and woman. The Seed of the Woman. The Child was the only begotten Son of God.
The word โgospelโ is often said to be the โgood newsโ. Ok, so whatโs the news? The news was announced by angels to the shepherds watching their flocks by night: Luke 2:10-11 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Good tidings is the good news. The gospel is that God has given to us His Son. The Savior is born. Immanuel, God is with us.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Jesus began His ministry announcing His arrival: Mark 1:15 “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

God created the Heaven and the Earth. God also created the plants and animals.
Then God created Man and put him in a garden. He called the man Adam. God put a tree in the midst of the Garden and told Adam not to eat from it, because in the day he eats from it he will surely die. This is a covenant between God and Adam: The Covenant of Sin and Death. So long as Adam remained obedient and didnโt eat from that tree he would live.
God brought all the animals to Adam and Adam named them. However, no suitable helper for Adam was found among the animals, so God put Adam into a deep sleep, took from the side of Adam a rib, and formed it into the Woman Eve. Eve was the downstream offspring of Adam and God. Adam said, โthis is bone of my bone, flesh of my fleshโ. This is why a husband and wife are considered one flesh.
Some time later in the Garden the Serpent asked Eve, โHas God really said you shall not eat of every tree?โ
Eve replied, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐, lest you die.'”
But that is NOT what God said! There was no prohibition on touching it. That was most likely added by Adam. I can imagine Adam saying, โLook Eve, donโt even touch it!โ Adamโs added regulation was a misrepresentation of the covenant.
It was this added regulation, the first โreligionโ through which the deceiver gained a foothold. Eve bundled her answers about eating and touching together.
So the Serpent addressed the two points as if they were one. The unspoken part of the serpentโs reply in parentheses was (if you touch it) โyou will not surely die.โ It was a very subtle and cunning attack. And it worked.
It wasnโt until she gave it to Adam and he ate then BOTH of their eyes were opened.
Why?
It was Adamโs disobedience of eating that broke his covenant with God. Eveโs disobedience had no power to break that covenant. This is because she was the offspring of God and Adam. She was downstream of the Covenant. She was not a party to the Covenant made before she was created. She was not the Covenant Representative, Adam was.
So long as the Covenant between God and Adam remained intact, even though she transgressed, sinned, it was not accounted to her. After she ate, the Covenant between God and Adam still remained intact. She was protected by Adamโs obedience. His obedience maintained the Covenant. It was one manโs act of disobedience that broke the covenant.
Why did Adam choose to eat knowing it would bring death? It was because seeing nothing happen to Eve caused him to disbelieve Godโs word. Itโs the result of his choosing to act on his disbelief which led to disobedience resulting in death.
Understanding what happened leads to the realization that Eve is not to be blamed for the fall of mankind. Itโs all too common for people, especially men to have animus towards Eve, and women in general. But understand that God placed enmity between her and the serpent. If you find yourself having animosity towards Eve or women in general, then be careful, youโre playing the role of the serpent.
The story of Adam and Eve is the very first model of Christ and the Church. This is a very important model upon which the whole Bible is based.
All who are offspring, downstream of the covenant between God and Adam are now subject to the conditions of a broken covenant. The consequence of that broken covenant is separation from God who is Life Itself and therefore that separation is Death.
Eve is the โmother of all livingโ our greatest grandmother. In this very first model of Christ she represents us, the Church. We should therefore have forgiveness towards Her and others in the Church. Weโre no better than her.
That brief interval between Eve eating and Adam eating which is the unbroken covenant between God and Man in the face of sin is the fulcrum around which all of human history pivots.
When you begin to get your mind around what happened there in the Garden, the entire Bible begins to make sense.
The Bible, ALL of it, is the Word of God. ALL of it is for our benefit. God’s Word finishes us as humans and makes us whole. God is the source of knowledge and revelation.
