Sukkot/Tabernacles 5783/2022

Leviticus 23:33-36 Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘On the fifteenth of this seventh month is the Feast of Booths for seven days to the LORD. On the first day is a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work of any kind. For seven days you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD. On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation and present an offering by fire to the LORD; it is an assembly. You shall do no laborious work.’”

When working in the fields during harvest, people lived in tents. The tents served as a reminder of the forty years of wandering in the desert after the Exodus from Egypt. The holiday is a reminder of the provision and safety God showed Israel during their travels in the desert as noted in Deuteronomy 8. The feast is a thanksgiving for the harvest of grapes (Exodus 23:16). It is to be a joyous festival (Deuteronomy 16:14). Sabbatical rest without work is part of the holiday. (New Manners and Customs of Bible Times).

This is the last of God’s appointed feasts or festivals. This holiday is known by many names. It is called the Feast of Tabernacles, Sukkot, the Feast of Booths, the Festival of Tents, or the Feast of the Harvest because it is after the harvest in the fall. Simply put, it is also called “the feast” or “the festival”.

The new moon was identified in Israel on Tuesday, September 27th, 2022. Sukkot/Feast of Tabernacles/15th Day of the 7th Month is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, October 11th at sunset. As calculated by modern man, Tabernacles is scheduled to begin on sunset Sunday, October 9th through Sunday, October 16th, 2022.

Tishri is the seventh month on a Hebrew calendar. This festival is a week-long festival from Tishri 15 to 21.

Tabernacles is the last of three festivals where men are required to make a road trip to Jerusalem and go to the Temple.

Per Zechariah 14:16-19, the Feast of Booths is the only God appointed holiday gentile nations will be required to attend. The nations will be required to go before the Lord Jesus Christ during the Feast of Booths. For those nations who do not attend, no rain for your crops.

Zechariah 14:16-19 Then all the survivors from the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the LORD of Hosts, and to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. And should any of the families of the earth not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of Hosts, then the rain will not fall on them. And if the family of Egypt does not go up or enter, then no rain will fall on them; it will be the plague with which the LORD strikes the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths. This will be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths.

There Shall Be Seven Weeks: Feasts (Feast of Tabernacles/Sukkot/Booths)

Daniel 9:25b …there shall be seven weeks…

The context of this series of posts is the course of the Jewish people for the initial 49 years of the 483 year period communicated from the angel Gabriel to the prophet Daniel. The city of Jerusalem has been rebuilt post exile. These events are covered in Nehemiah 8-13. Israel is returning to God’s Law. The focus is on God’s appointed holidays. This week, the Feast of Tabernacles or Sukkot is the topic.

This is the last of God’s appointed feasts or festivals. This holiday is known by many names. It is called the Feast of Tabernacles, Sukkot, the Feast of Booths, the Festival of Tents, or the Feast of the Harvest because it was after the harvest in the fall. Simply put, it was also called “the feast” or “the festival”.

This festival is a week-long festival from Tishri 15 to 21.

Jews sing Isaiah 12:3 Therefore you will joyously draw water from the springs of salvation, during Sukkot. The feast is a reminder to the Jewish people they lived in tents after the Exodus from Egypt. In addition, the Feast of Tabernacles requires sacrifices of sin offerings and burnt offerings. At the time of preparation for the morning sacrifice, a priest descends to the Pool of Siloam amidst great music, celebration, and singing of Isaiah 12:3, and fills a golden pitcher with water. After dipping his pitcher in Siloam’s water, the priest returns to the Temple Mount and pours the water into one of the silver basins by the altar (Wayne Stiles, Insight for Living).

All three members of the Trinity will dwell with humanity. Isaiah 12 refers to the promise of the Holy Spirit and the reign of Jesus. The Holy Spirit was given to believers of Christ at Pentecost (Acts 2) and ushered in the Church Age. He will return on the Mount of Olives with an earthquake.

Zechariah 14:4 In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in its middle from east to west by a very large valley, so that half of the mountain will move toward the north and the other half toward the south.

Revelation 19 has Jesus returning to Earth to initiate his 1,000 year reign and He will live with humanity.

The ultimate expression of “the feast” after the Millennial Kingdom is with God and the New Jerusalem.

Revelation 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them…

And He is going to live and dwell with us, forever…

Egypt Into the Millennial Kingdom

Zechariah 14:18 If the family of Egypt does not go up or enter, then no rain will fall on them; it will be the plague with which the LORD smites the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths.

God has a future plan for the nation Egypt. The country of Egypt will be into the Millennial Kingdom. The Feast of Booths is the only God appointed holiday gentile nations will be required to attend. The nations will be required to go before the Lord Jesus Christ during the Feast of Booths. There is a consequence for lack of participation, no rain.

In October 2017 (Gregorian calendar), per the sighting of the new moon, The Feast is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 6th and proceed through Thursday, October 12th. In God’s timing, The Festival is scheduled to run from Tishri 15-21 (Hebrew calendar). Tishri 1 is declared when the new moon is sighted.

Part of the holiday is a road trip and vacation to Jerusalem. Every family needs to build a sukkah (singular). Families will build sukkot (plural). Sukkah can be translated as: booth, cottage, covert, pavilion, tabernacle, or tent. (Strong’s Concordance)

sukkotThe tents serve as a reminder to the forty years of wandering in the desert due to a lack of faith in God after the Exodus from Egypt.

Leviticus 23:42-43 You shall dwell in booths for seven days. All native Israelites shall dwell in booths that your generations may know that I made the people of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.”

Despite their faithless attitude, the holiday is a thanksgiving for the gracious provision and safety God showed Israel during their travels in the desert as noted in Deuteronomy 8. The appointment also marks the end of the harvest season.

Trend Update: Dead Sea Resurrecting to Life, August 2016

Posted in Prophecy, Resurrection, Trend Update with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 3, 2016 by paulthepoke

Genesis 13:10 Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the valley of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere— this was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah—like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt as you go to Zoar.

The Dead Sea area is believed to be the home of Sodom and Gomorrah. Scholars point to the southeastern tip of the Dead Sea as the location. In the past, it was not a barren desert and wasteland. This area was compared to the Garden of Eden in Genesis 13. The Hebrew grammar makes the point the area was well watered everywhere. Destruction of the area is estimated around 2,000 BC with God’s judgment. The area has been literally dead for approximately 4,000 years. See Genesis 19 for details.

Ezekiel 47:8-10 And he said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, and enters the sea; when the water flows into the sea, the water will become fresh. And wherever the river goes, every living creature that swarms will live, and there will be very many fish. For this water goes there, that the waters of the sea may become fresh; so everything will live where the river goes. Fishermen will stand beside the sea. From Engedi to Eneglaim it will be a place for the spreading of nets. Its fish will be of very many kinds, like the fish of the Great Sea.

The context and location of these two verses in Ezekiel is the promised, future Temple in Jerusalem during the reign of the Messiah, Jesus. This is another example of a future Temple. Water flowing from Jerusalem to the east has to go to the Dead Sea. Currently in 2016, there is no river from Jerusalem to the Dead Sea. The Jordan River is the only water source to the Sea.

These verses are stating the water of the Dead Sea is so incapable of life and beyond sick. Today, the Dead Sea is 10 times saltier than the oceans. But life giving water from Jerusalem and the Temple will heal and resurrect the Dead Sea.

Engedi is on the western shore of the Dead Sea approximately at the halfway point. Eneglaim is believed to be on the northern tip of Dead Sea where the Jordan River spills into the sea. The reference to Eneglaim is the only occurrence in the Bible. This is roughly 20-25 miles between the two locations. The amount and diversity of fish will be consistent with the Mediterranean Sea. (http://biblehub.com/commentaries/ezekiel/47-10.htm)

During 2011, divers from Ben Gurion University went to the bottom of the Dead Sea. Craters (15 X 20 meters) were noted with fresh water flowing out of them. Microorganisms were observed to coat the craters. Signs of life were noted at the bottom of the Dead Sea.

In the summer of 2016, fresh water ponds with fish have been reported near the shores of the Dead Sea. Green vegetation is beginning to sprout. Ducks are moving back into the area.

http://www.breakingisraelnews.com/72816/story-behind-viral-dead-sea-prophecy-coming-life/#UPpmoyVZkHr8HQ2b.97

Zechariah 14:8 And in that day living waters will flow out of Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and the other half toward the western sea; it will be in summer as well as in winter.

Here is another verse indicating life giving, fresh water will flow from Jerusalem to the east and down towards the Dead Sea. The context of this verse is the Messiah standing on the Mount of Olives. The culmination of Zechariah 14 is the great earthquake that splits the Mount in two leaving a valley.

It appears this process is beginning to take place. The Dead Sea is resurrecting back to life.

Trend Update: Mount of Olives, Passover 2016

Posted in Prophecy, Spring Feasts, Trend Update with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 4, 2016 by paulthepoke

Zechariah 14:4 On that day his feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives that lies before Jerusalem on the east, and the Mount of Olives shall be split in two from east to west by a very wide valley, so that one half of the Mount shall move northward, and the other half southward.

On the Mount of Olives east of the Temple Mount on Monday, April 25, 2016, a Passover sacrifice ceremony was held. Over 400 people attended the event. Multiple public figures and officials stated hope for the day the Dome of the Rock and al Aksa Mosque would be removed from the Temple Mount. They believe the time is now to raze the area and purify the land.

http://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/Participants-in-paschal-lamb-ceremony-voice-hope-to-one-day-raze-Temple-Mount-451757

You can bet your last shekel those attending this Passover ceremony know the verse in Zechariah (name means: Yahweh remembers).

The Mount of Olives is roughly 3,000 feet or a little over ½ mile from the Temple Mount. As the crowd looked across to the Temple Mount, they see the Eastern Gate or the Golden Gate. Currently the gate is considered the property of the Muslims. They have sealed it with brick and mortar. In front of the gate is a Muslim cemetery. Little do they know, they are the instruments of prophecy fulfillment.

Ezekiel 44:1-3 Then he brought me back to the outer gate of the sanctuary, which faces east. And it was shut. And the LORD said to me, “This gate shall remain shut; it shall not be opened, and no one shall enter by it, for the LORD, the God of Israel, has entered by it. Therefore it shall remain shut. Only the prince may sit in it to eat bread before the LORD. He shall enter by way of the vestibule of the gate, and shall go out by the same way.”

The prophet Ezekiel was told by the LORD. The Hebrew word for LORD is Yahweh, The Existing One. This is the definitive name of God. And He says only the Prince may enter this gate. This is His gate. It is stated four times in Ezekiel 44:2, the gate is to remain closed to others. Yahweh is in charge of this gate.

Fast forward roughly 500-600 years from the prophets to the ascension of Jesus into Heaven. Jesus ascended from the Mount of Olives. He is promised to return in the same manner.

Acts 1:11-12 …and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away.

Millennial Kingdom: Here Comes the Rain Again…

Posted in Fall Feasts, Millennial Kingdom, Prophecy with tags , , , , , , on February 21, 2016 by paulthepoke

Isaiah 35:1 The wilderness and the desert will be glad, and the Arabah will rejoice and blossom; like the crocus…

rain

This verse pretty much describes the land scape of Israel and the Middle East today (February 2016). It is a dry, desolate pasture where water is precious. The nation of Israel has become one of the best water management and recovery nations on the planet because of the harsh weather conditions of their land.

The Hebrew word for wilderness is midbar. It means: pasture, uninhabited land, or wilderness. Midbar also happens to be the word for mouth.

The Hebrew word for desert is tsiyah. It means: dryness, drought, or desert.

The Hebrew word for arabah is ‘arabah. It means: desert plain, steppe, or wilderness.

Ezekiel 34:26 I will make them and the places around My hill a blessing. And I will cause showers to come down in their season; they will be showers of blessing.

Joel 2:23 So rejoice, O sons of Zion, and be glad in the LORD your God; for He has given you the early rain for your vindication. And He has poured down for you the rain, the early and latter rain as before.

Typically, rain does not fall in this part of the world from May through September. The verse of Joel 2:23 discusses the three rainy seasons: fall, winter, and spring.

The early or former rain (mowreh in Hebrew) takes place in late October through mid-November, the fall rains. This is the time to get to work on the farm, plough and plant the seed. Isaiah 30:23a Then He will give you rain for the seed which you will sow in the ground…

The Hebrew word for rain is geshem. It means torrential rains and storms. These are the winter rains of January and February.

The latter rain (malqowsh in Hebrew) takes place in April and May. These are the spring rains that help with barley and wheat production and yield.

Rain information courtesy of Manners & Customs of Bible Lands, Fred H. Wight.

God promises to return the cycles of rain as in the past. Zechariah 8:12b …and the heavens will give their dew…

Isaiah 30:25 On every lofty mountain and on every high hill there will be streams running with water on the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.

Water will be plentiful at higher elevations. It is one thing to have wet, low lying marsh lands. Scripture is talking about a future with abundant water in lofted areas.

Jeremiah 31:12b And their life will be like a watered garden, and they will never languish again.

The Millennial Kingdom is a time of plentiful rain and water. Scripture is full of these figurative images.

According to the prophet Zechariah, increased rain will be universal during Christ’s reign. There is one condition, attendance in Jerusalem for the Feast of Booths or Tabernacles.

http://paulthepoke.com/2014/10/05/feast-of-tabernaclessukkotboothsthe-feast/

Zechariah 14:18 If the family of Egypt does not go up or enter, then no rain will fall on them; it will be the plague with which the LORD smites the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths.

This is the only God appointed holiday gentile nations will be required to attend. If you don’t attend…

No Rain For You!

Trend Update: Land for Peace/Palestine, September 2015

Posted in Prophecy, Trend Update with tags , , , , , , , on September 8, 2015 by paulthepoke

Joel 3:2 I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there on behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; and they have divided up My land.

Joel 3:12 Let the nations be aroused and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations.

Israel and they have divided up My land. It is a foregone conclusion as to the result of God’s land Israel. The nations have and will further divide the land. Humanity is a serial offender of dividing God’s land.

UN

France is expected to present a plan to the United Nations (UN) that would call for a nation, Palestine. The plan is to be presented in September 2015. It appears likely to be passed. Last year, the vote failed by one nation. Take it to the bank. Eventually, the land will be further divided.

http://www.ibtimes.com/israel-palestine-conflict-french-un-security-council-resolution-table-favor-2059816

The start of the UN’s General Assembly is Tuesday, September 15, 2015. It is likely to be a who’s who of world leaders. Obama, Putin, Xi, and Rouhani are scheduled to speak.

The Palestinians are asking to fly their flag at UN headquarters prior to the arrival of the Pope’s visit in late September, 2015. Typically, only member states are allowed to fly their flag. The United States and Israel are opposed. They say the flying of the Palestinian flag will undermine the “peace process”.

http://www.usnews.com/news/world/articles/2015/08/26/palestinians-vatican-could-raise-un-flags-before-pope-visit

I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there on behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel…

The consequences of scattering God’s people and dividing His land are clear. He will gather the “nations” or goyim in the original Hebrew. Per Strong’s Concordance, the goyim are the nations or non-Hebrew people.

The meeting place of the nations is defined, the valley of Jehoshaphat. The Hebrew meaning of the valley is “Jehovah has judged” (Strong’s Concordance). Some take this to be the valley between Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives to the east. It is also known as the Kidron Valley. At first glance, it would appear this modern day valley is not large enough to allow for the nations of the world to fit in such a small place (September 2015).

Dwight Pentecost, Things to Come, has an excellent observation in light of Zechariah 14:4 In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in its middle from east to west by a very large valley, so that half of the mountain will move toward the north and the other half toward the south. When Jesus returns, the size of the valley is going to increase significantly. Geography of the land will change.

…a very large valley… The Hebrew words for “very large” are m@`od (muchness, force, abundance, exceedingly, to a great degree) and gadowl (great and large in magnitude and extent). Definitions provided by Strong’s Concordance.

I will enter into judgment… God will bring them to the “Jehovah has judged” and He is going to judge or shaphat in the Hebrew. Shaphat means judge, govern, vindicate, punish. The grammar in the Hebrew language indicates God will enter into judgment with the nations (Strong’s Concordance).

The United Nations will not be consulted.
